I had this on cassette too and also played it to death! Never liked the version by Annie Lennox and I used to have arguments with people who insisted she did the original! Anyway, want CD version, however used on Amazon, they want £200! Anyone know where I can get this still?
I've tried to get this album for years, I had it as a cassette (showing my age!) and pretty much played it to death. Apparently a CD in 'good condition' from Amazon will set you back about £60!
There is so much I love about this song. The amazing contrasts ("gentle tickling turns to drowsy complications") in the verses that illustrate the decay in almost all relationships. The stunning contrast between the singer's baritone and the backups' lilting voices. The active, bouncing bass line in the second half of the song. And the vivid imagery and wistfulness of lines like "and now the pillows do the dreaming." It's just a perfect blend of songwriting, arrangement and execution.
had this album - this was my fav; - so powerful. didn't like Annie Lennox's version of 'No more I love yous'. A great, great album. Thanx for posting. I listen to it on my ipod!
I should feel lucky as I was able to purchase this on CD back in 1986 and still have it.
