We have a body and a spirit!! Scientists have proved that we, as human beings, do indeed have a 'presence' that leaves the body when dead (weight loss instantly after one's death, recorded) That presence is what we call the soul. The tribe of Juda barrowed heavily from Mesopotamia, Egypt and Hinduism (though one could argue with trade routes everyone influenced everyone.) The ideas in the Bible can be found in tales of Egyptology and Hinduism. Even the name Jesus (originally more like 'Yeh'shu'wa' /Joshua - a very common name) came from the word/god Zeus. You don't have to worship Isis, but going back further may deepen your understanding.

However, many of the theological concepts are radically unique & unprecedented. In addition, great deal of the Bible involves history which occurs after the 400 yr enslavement & Exodus event - no similarity to other nations. Could you cite examples of specific ideas?

Or the people they grew up with said they were Christians but really weren't and they see that growing up. Jesus has answered prayers I've prayed again and again over the years. He's the one who said to me, "You have 100% clean blood. Somehow you've been healed." Jesus is not utter shit. He's totally real.

Do you know why are there many cases of homossexualism amoung christian people? Of course! Dating is a mortal sin! You can not kiss, you can not touch and love someone before you get a fucking marriage ring on your finger. This sounds to me like a contract you have to sign! Scientists have proved that we, as human beings, do indeed have a 'presence' that leaves the body when dead (weight loss instantly after one's death, recorded) That presence is what we call the soul. I, too, am fascinated by religion. My fiance has started to get PO'd when he sees me watching the Atheist Experience, or when I listen to Seth's podcasts on the Thinking Atheist, hehe. The tribe of Juda barrowed heavily from Mesopotamia, Egypt and Hinduism (though one could argue with trade routes everyone influenced everyone.) The ideas in the Bible can be found in tales of Egyptology and Hinduism. Even the name Jesus (originally more like 'Yeh'shu'wa' /Joshua - a very common name) came from the word/god Zeus. You don't have to worship Isis, but going back further may deepen your understanding.

Thanks for commentary, but I would have to disagree. Certainly many of the moral & ethical themes can be considered quite universal and common to all men. However, many of the theological concepts are radically unique & unprecedented. In addition, great deal of the Bible involves history which occurs after the 400 yr enslavement & Exodus event - no similarity to other nations. Could you cite examples of specific ideas?

Who hurt you? It's dangerous to judge God by the example of the people you grew up around. Anyway, Christianity isn't about religion, it's about relationship. I was once given 5 years to live. Near the end I prayed to Jesus to heal me -- I was healed of a major blood disease. I think you think you're pretty clever. But your sad, too. Who hurt you?

@younesky Actually, learning about Islam from my Musslimmah friends helped me to become an atheist. There is no more evidence for Christianity than there is for Islam. Both suffer from many of the same logical, factual, and evidential weaknesses. Both want me to worship someone/something they cannot produce for me to speak with myself.

Go back to the definition of faith. Faith is believing in something without proof. Religion is a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith. Atheism is defined as the doctrine or belief that there is no God. Therefore Atheism is a religion.

I used to believe in god too, ceasing to believe can be scary at first then freeing and calming. It can take a life time to deprogram yourself. When I'm sure I've cast off the shackles of dogma every now and again I doubt myself.
