@Pris247 Yes, pure vanilla is the only thing you want to use. I use my homemade vanilla which is pure vanilla extract as well, just homemade. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching and commenting. Noreen : )
I love this video and can't wait to make it. My boys who are 4and 5 LOVE chocolate milk and I would much rather they have this. Can I can this and put it in my food storage? I know it's not hard to make, but would like to have on hand. Love your videos and ideas, Thank you and God Bless
Vanillin is also inside the natural bean of vanilla, and with all the other crap they're trying to sell us, i thought you should know that at least in this case, Synthetic vanillin is not any worse than vanilla, as vanilla is just vanillin + the other stuff of which the bean is made. This is one of the very few cases in which synthetizing the molecule just leads to more concentrated flavour without any health problem
@PriscillaZorn Nope, this needs real sugar in order to thicken and process properly. I understand the need for some people to use artificial sweeteners due to health issues, however doing some research on splenda and nutrisweet will reveal that they are both poison, one chemical and one coming from the natural sugar base and being chemically modified into a poison.
great vid, actually the rants are good. I never had good feelings about vanilin. I truly do appreciate your videos and hope you have a wonderful holiday season
They are starting to use the term ''corn sugar'' instead of the ''high fructose corn syrup''. I thought I would pass that lil tid-bit of info on to you.
I used to make this for my kids when they were younger about 10 - 12 years ago. I forgot how great it was. Thanks for reminding me, I'll be making some this weekend. I know the kids will be happy to have this "blast from the past".
Love it, thank you for all of your time and sharing! It is so kind of you to share great ideas to save money and make yummy things for our family at the same time :)
This is the way I make my chocolate syrup as well. Just made some this week. I've got to tell you, I keep it on the counter in a sealed jar. The sugar content is high enough that bacteria won't grow in it. I've never had a problem leaving it out. (Just as a side note, I also leave my butter dish on the counter...salted butter...we use it fast enough that a couple of days on the counter doesn't effect it at all.) Great vid...as always.
@katzcradul I agree about the sugar content being high enough to keep this problem free. I also keep my butter on the counter in a butter bell. That keeps it fresh, soft and delicious!
Keep in mind that unless it's "organic" corn syrup it's GMO corn. :( I've banned most corn products because of this. My guys who love their chocolate "syrup" for instant chocolate milk, make a version with just powdered sugar, cocoa powder & hot water.Has to be refrigerated, of course.
If I'm not mistake, corn syrup is needed to keep the other sugars in a recipe from crystallizing. Short shelf life without it. :) Not needed if small batches and used quickly. :)
@VivianRinSC Yes, I realize that it is better to buy things that say organic or at least things that are certified organic. I am trying to play the lesser of two evil's card, since many people don't have the wallet to support a total change and really, how often do we use corn syrup anyway? In the alternative one could use brown rice syrup, honey or if you don't mind the taste, molasses, these items will also stop the crystalization of the sugar if you were candy making. Thanks for good info!
@adreamtosome I don't see why not! You could use brown sugar as well or Demarrara sugar too. It may just take longer for the larger crystals of the turbinado or demarrara sugar to dissolve.
thanks Noreen for all that you do. I bought Hersheys syrup last night . It's the last bottle I'll ever buy. I made homemade vanilla about two months ago. I am giving all my gifts from the kitchen, including the homemade vanilla. On my jars I will be writing the instructions so my love ones can remake for themselves.
This is a great recipe to make with the kids! I have 4 little ones and so I have to keep it simple, or it can get a little overwhelming. LOL Thanks for the idea! Love it!
@MrsMSG79 If you keep this in the fridge it should last up to 3 months, but I don't think it will last that long in my house! Rick still won't go on camera, only stays behind it, but he likes everything I make, so we have fun doing this! Thanks for watching and commenting! Noreen
I love love love your videos.Thank you for shareing all of your yummy recipies with us and thank you for letting us know about the good and the bad in the foods we eat.
Noreen, My grandchildren love a nice glass of milk with a dash of chocolate syrup in it for a treat now and then. Thanks for coming up with a recipe we can use without poisoning the kids. Good work.
@0badboy0 Get real man, he obviously meant healthy as compared to syrup full of chemicals. What the hell is your problem? For Pete sakes find something constructive to do.
@Pattycakessmiles Thank you for your support. People like this occasionally make their way to my vids. I have blocked this Neanderthal and he will not be bothering us again. I will leave his comments here so others can see the thread of the conversation. On average I get 2 per week that call me names and make me mad. I even had one bring me to tears with his comment. Funny thing though, these people never have any uploads or friends! Go figure. Thanks, I appreciate you! Noreen
@atticus; Most welcome, friend. Please don't let people like him hurt you. As my Mom always said when I was crushed over mean comments, "consider where it comes from". I have found that people like him are very sad, lonely, friendless folks who will do anything for attention, and a release of their anger. You do an EXCELLENT job of sharing ways we can all enjoy delicious foods w/o poisoning our families. None of us want to live on rabbit food. Your lovely family is also an inspiration. Thanks!
@kanenite1985 To tell you the truth, I jarred it up, left it on the counter overnight and then put it in the fridge. There is really nothing in here that will go bad. If you were to use distilled water, you could probably make this a fairly shelf stable product, but to be safe, when using tap water, put it in the fridge. It will probably be completely cooled in around 2 hours if left on the counter. Thanks for watching and commenting! Noreen
How long can i keep this in my house.. any set expiration date?
