Great jobm mrrobville! This is the part of the film that have always fascinated me. Seeing that steam engine working is so amazing! I wish I had a miniature of that engine :) Ah, and I've got a doubt. What are those 4 long rotating structures between the pistons which are shown at 0:22? What are their function to the engine? Do they control any king of gas flow through the engine from one piston to the other till its elimination by the outside chimney of the ship?
@Sauber9 those are the exentric rods, they open and close the valves which leads the steam through the pistons, you can google a steam engine on wikipedia and im sure there will be an animation of it. at titanic's engine, there were 2 exentrics per each cilinder, this is for the reversing gear. one mestake i made in the animation is that all exentrics all move the same way together.
i like the gentle movement of the exentric as the main rods are moving extremely fast and rough.
@mrrobville Thanks! Yeah, that fascinates me too: while the main rods "sweat like a pig" the excentric ones move gently :) Thanks for asking my doubt about the excentric rods because I'm kinda ignorant in these steam engines. Your video, by the way, represents almost perfectly the engine we see in Titanic. Even the round shapes of the main rods connection with the axis of the engine were similar. Sorry for some mistakes on my comment above, but I've typed fast and carelessly.
@matty16222 i am affraid not, this mod is for mafia(2) only, if i sent you the engine, another guy wants the staircase, and another one wants a funnel for example. this will give the mod/mafia game a much less exclusive appeal.
it will be a ery well-made MOD, because i've watched all of your videos, and they look so um... PERECT! Do you make all of the models with only one program, or do you use some other programs? And what's the name of the program you are using? As i saw it at the big stairs prjoect, it must be an Autodesk program, but i dunno which of them... Anyway, thanks for your help, and good luck!
all earlyer models (from video 1, 2 & 6) are made with google sketchup & zmodeler, with exeption of a few models in video 2. now all models are being made with Cinema 4D Release 10. and my co-modeller Hudizzle works with Autodesk Maya.
all models seen in the current videos are all made with Cinema 4D.
These mod to which you are working, are applicable to of the simulators as Virtual Sailor,Ship Simulator, or are independent? However indeed a overtime
4 Cylinder triple expansion Direct acting Inverted type engine balanced by the Yarrow Schlick and Tweedy system. 15,000 SHP (Shaft Horse Power) at 215 P.S.I steam pressure. One of the largest ever built. An amazing example of early 20th Century engineering.
it indeed is, steam engines are far more impressive then todays diesel engines. you see all the rods, exentrics, krankshaft and all other small mechanics moving.
a shame that none of these huge engines exist anymore.
@mrrobville yep The last were the Olympic Class vessels. The only difference between a steam engine and an internal combustion engine is the power to weight ratio.
@mrrobville true. These huge liners would burn up to 650 tonnes of coal a day. so their fuel consumption was huge, the reason they were scrapped is because the enourmous cost of operating them just was no longer economical. It would cost you more than double to run a ship like this as apposed to a modern ship.
Omggg this is an spongebob soundtrack! hihi <3

@JanWillemKoning That's very likely, there are several soundtracks from Ren & Stimpy used in Spongebob

Oh, and you should add an easter egg on board, like a can of bread.

i like, although the one critisisem i would have is the textureing/lighting rig that you used

@smishlines yeah that's true, the textures and lightning was quickly applied just for this video, the textures need to get fixed and baked though.
