Seong Mina not being in the game, and giving some of her moves to Xiba, was a better choice to increase the chances of new unique weapons and movesets to come in. Much like how Rock is. Seong Mina didn't have much story potential anyways, besides first being like Yun-Seong and THEN having to find him all of the time.
Talim, however, has a very unique moveset, weapon, and appearance from the rest, plus being younger than Hilde in age. There was no excuse for her not being in SCV.
What "unique weapons and movesets"? The replacements are mostly palette swaps with generic personalities, and the newcomers could've been added without kicking the old guard out.
There was no excuse for butchering the cast like that, period.
The characters in SCV, NOT THE WHOLE SERIES, have different weapons and movesets from each other. Why people want Talim, and Zasalamel is because their styles AND weapons are different from the other characters in SCV.
You don't seem to be getting the point either. Using a similar weapon doesn't mean that styles are the same and it's "okay" to phase characters out. Cassandra for example (short ranged rushdown, reversals, dodging and low throws) was played differently from a more mid-range oriented Sophitia.
Equalling weapons and styles is like saying it's OK to remove characters in unarmed fighting games because they all use hands and feet.
@a0classcriminal Cassandra may play somewhat differently from Sophitia, but she has the exact same style and weapon as Sophitia. The same can be said for Rock and Astaroth. That's like saying it's okay to have an entire roster of characters with the exact same sword but different styles, or the exact same style but different weapons.
"Hands and feet" aren't the central focus of a hand-to-hand fighting game. It's the fighting styles, just like how weapons AND styles are in SC.
If she "played differently" then how can she have "same style"? Different moves, combos, tactics, stance, combat pace etc... it's a unique character.
It's like Sarah and Jacky in Virtua Fighter (both fighting Jeet Kune Do) or the Kim brothers in Garou (TKD), or Kim and Jhun in KoF, or Ryu and Gouken in SF4. Doesn't matter what the style it says it is, if the gameplay experience is different, then the characters are different and worth keeping.
@phantasmic1000 Chronologically they are. Physically, they are not. They are both 25 and 23. During Tekken 2 and 3, they were a part of a cyrosleep project, and were asleep for nearly 16 years thus preserving their age.
@phantasmic1000 technically yes. But they went into cryo-sleep for quite some time, made a time-travel so to speak so it doesn´t count. NutvsGuts brought it up in the ending. Hilde is nearly 40 and she's still a capable charackter, thankfully not broken anymore ... in general though the video maker is kinda correct with the fancy exuses for not aging and keeping fan favs young ... it all doesn't matter though in the long run, cause if the game plays crappy like SCIII and IV noone cares anyway, when 5 will get the patch to get rid of fuzzy guard it should be a pretty decent competetive game for a while :)
personally, I don't care about SC 5. everything seemed blown to me once they did SC II redid Mian and did away with hwang, only to replace him with youngsung... and made mina bonus character...
at this point, do whatever the hell you want... I don't care..
One thing I don't get is why did we need a Kilik replacment? Kilik is still in SCV as a secret character with the random fighting style, we already have Elysium and Edge Master for those kind of players. So Namco should have given Kilik his staff, and made Xiba out to be a Seung Mina baby.
According to what I heard, Japan is one of those countries where there is discrimination towards mature women, this is something typical and common in Japanese society as in some countries of Latin America or the Arab countries
Perhaps this is one of the reasons why many of the female characters got replaced in the game, because they have the flawed thinking that mature women only serves to be housewives and nothing more.
You know what really sucks about Seung Mina (and half of the other cast) being gone from SC5? There's no reason for it. They don't even tell us WHY in the story about where they are, and why they don't go after Soul Edge. >.< If you're not even going to tell us, or at least have the decency to use new characters with their moveset, when why omit them from the game at all?
@The4thSnake Well, there IS a story mode- and it actually does tell a story. Problem is, it's cheap as hell, with only some of the characters from the roster being present in it and only cutscenes with in-game engine being only sometimes used.
@EmoNekoChan Yeah, shame the game had no bios or endings and, as I touched on in my review of the game, we know nothing about the new characters, we don't know the fates of most of them and a lot of questions don't get definite answers.
I mean really, what was Namco thinking? In all honesty, if I had known that Seong, Amy, Yun-Seong, and Rock wouldn't be in it, I really wouldn't have brought the game. I know a lot of people who feel the same way. This and SFxTekken have taught me to never pre order a fighting game again, as there may be a darn good reason why I may not want to buy it.
RIP Seong Mina - a darn good character who got put on a bus for no good reason without even so much as a goodbye or explanation >.<
I have to agree 100%,: Namco's laws are BS. Did we REALLY need to throw a bunch of main characters overboard because they were female and 30-40? That said, I think part of this was just general stupidity on the part of the developers: couldn't be bothered to tie up the Rock, Mina/Hwang/Yun-Seong, or Setsuka storylines, the former two having been going on since SB. Instead we get a bunch of no-names for Sieg that nobody cares about, and a bunch of baby replacements that no one cares about.
@LightandDarknessLion There's a possibility that Viola's true identity is Amy. There have been many hints pointing it out. So that means Amy is technically in the game, if rumors are true.
@AlastorDarkknight Of course, those people have entire teams of people dedicated to keeping them looking much younger than they actually are, but yes, there are plenty of other examples, as well.
Their are rumors that even though the roster is filled there might be a chance that Cassandra will be in SC V so there shouldnt be a reason why Seung Mina cant be in it too. and I prefer her over Kilik or Xiba for some reason I can play her better than Kilik, So I'm supporting for Seung Mina's return for SC V.
@Gigamaster77 Also Mina needs to come back because apparently Goku(I call him that because they're both based off the same thing) is replacing both Mina and Kilik, and Kilik is back but he is apparently now a mimic character for men.
@Gigamaster77 She is now the oldest (NOT BONUS OR CUSTOMIZED) female character, because ivy still 32, I don't know why Namco don't bring back for SCV at least Talim, Cassandra, and Xianghua because they would have 32, 38 and 37 respectively, For my women around that ages are not that old, in my opinion the creators just want to sell and make more money by introducing new young girls they keep (and gain new) male (pervert) audience for the franchise.
Not fair that only some characters can stay cool and fresh in SC5 (Ivy,Tira,Hilde...) And bubbly Cassandra will get this Pyrrha (ugh, ugly name too) replacement, she looks so...scared,unprepared and a total weeper, even more than her mother...and that's one thing I din't liked about Sophitia!
I wanna keep cassandra... I thought she was annoying as hell but now I realize Her spunk could be appreciated over this pyrrha bitch who doesn't look like she knows how to use her weapons right
Males and females age differently. So what's the fucking issue here? Females are in their physical prime between their mid to late teens, all the way to their mid-thirties. That's when they are also in their most fertile and attractive years.
Even if Mi-Na was in her forties, she wouldn't have the same physical aptitude and vitality that she would have had in her twenties. A females biological clock ticks in terms of fertility, even though women live seven years longer than men on average.
@RichardRich89 Males develop awkwardly in their earliest years of biological development, but eventually age like fine wine as they get older after reaching their prime. But they die much quicker than females.
The ratio between elderly male characters above eighty balances out to females who are in their mid-teens, notably sixteen to eighteen. SoulCalibur and Tekken are good examples.
The oldest characters are always male, and the youngest and freshest characters are always female.
@Dinodan3 I didn't really think about that. I guess I was speaking in human terms. But technically you are right. One wouldn't have guessed that the original Astaroth was 7 years old, or that his successor in SCV was a year old, as huge as they are.
But then again, many of the non-human characters in Soul Calibur have ages that vary from most recently born, to 20,000 years old. It's weird.
@RichardRich89 There's a couple of problems with your reasoning, but I'll point out the most obvious: you're assuming that mid-teens for females = >80 for males, and it doesn't. I agree with you on the aging thing, but the thing is, 1) this isn't reality, and 2) Vid maker has a point. Think, can you name one female in a Namco or any fighting game who looks over 40? There are no female equivalents to Heihachi or Wang. Females get the boot when they get around Kazuya's age.
@theunpopulartruth99 What can any of us do about it? It's unrealistic to keep a female in a game who reaches past her prime, unless she is was kept in some form of statis or is immortal and/or ageless.
@RichardRich89 Realistically I don't have a say: it's Namco's IP, and they can do whatever they want with it. I'm just saying what I think is logical in my opinion. In my opinion, it is not logical to boot out main characters, with no explanation whatsoever, simply because they are female and old. I don't think it was logical to boot out the males either, but the way Namco did with the females in this game was beyond shameful, it was stupid. It really was. Seong Mina was a ...
@RichardRich89 regular since Soul Blade. There was a pretty nice story line going about her, Hwang, Yun, her father and dojo, and the search for the sword to prevent the invasion of Korea by Japan. She interacted with a lot of characters offscreen (Taki, Sophi, Kilik, Edgemaster, Ivy, etc). The argument could be made that she was more integral to the story of Soul Edge than someone like Mitsurugi or Yoshimitsu, both of who stayed in. Same could be said for Sophita, Taki, or Cass.
@RichardRich89 The reason I look to Namco's law for this is that the female characters who were removed were VERY important to the story, to the point where it would be easier to just let them stay in and finish their story. Their absence is glaring, and makes no sense except in context of Namco's Law. There is no reason why they couldn't have been in the game at 40 or so. Realism has nothing to do with it, realistically most elderly people aren't as strong as Heihachi.
(cont) It's to the point where they screwed up the story and kicked out a bunch of fan favorites just to keep the girls under 30. Don't get me wrong, that isn't the only stupid thing they did with the cast, and there were plenty of male members who got sent up the river. Namco's law is just one thing that is screwed up with the cast, and the most obvious reason why he females who had integral storylines (Mina, Sophi, Talim, Taki), got the boot in favor of uninteresting characters.
I don't have a problem with old ladies in fighting games, really... but I don't want to see characters that used to be young become old. Fighting game characters are all about archetypes/stereotypes, whatever the word is, and for me, the young, naive but feisty archetype turning into an old lady just doesn't feel right for me. If they create a new character that's the archetype of the wise old lady, I got no probs with that.
I have nothing against the younger generation, really. Except that they boot out Cassandra, Seung Mi-Na, and so on. Seriously, it's ridiculous, insulting, and, what the hell, I'll just remind people that someone with that level of fitness is probably going to age well. The whole situation isn't helped by the fact that Pyrrha is depicted as weak, nervous, and dangerously incompetent in battle.
For Jun; "Stop aging through bulls**t". Um, she stopped aging because she DIED (unless Namco retconed that now). For Ivy; yeah she stopped aging, but she looks old anyway. For Kunimitsu; thought she's rumored to be dead (Bryan killed all Manji members except Yoshimtisu, so does that include her?) I'd really like her to return updated in game play, she's sadly just a girl Yoshimitsu, but as character I found her cool.
@MJNSEIFER Kunimitsu got expelled from his clan way before they were attacked by bryan. Beside she wasnt much of a fan favorite back then. So either she's dead or Namco just dont have any good storyline with her.
Guys, she's not coming back. Xiba is the replacement for both Kilik and Seong Mi-Na. Just accept that. Also, we have Edge Master who mimics Xiba. There we go.
@MissKairi101 Yeah it does say Xiba is the successor of both of them. But there's a list of deconfirmed characters on the wiki who aren't coming back and Seong Mina's not in the list. It's still unknown if she'll return or not. I'm sure Kilik is gone though since that kid Xiba is there.
Well, the rule's not entirely true,I mean,in Soul Calibur III,there was a character named Aurelia who was 37 years old,and you could also make elderly female characters
I've got some bad news guys. It has been revealed that Xiba, a newly introduced staff user has copied some moves from Seung Mina. This may mean that Seung Mina has been replaced.
@TooYaaay It isn't too late, all u have to do is tweet to daishi. Show your hatred, and don't hold back. if you think it's harsh, say it anyway. that'll show him we mean business.
If you're a young and skilled male warrior, and you punch another young and skilled male warrior, you'll have a fight on your hands. Now, if that warrior has even a hint of gray in his hair or beard, you just know you're screwed...yet, when video game females hit 25 or so, they whip out the walker and it's off to the nursing home?? That's just messed up.
@MileenasFloss its nacoms aging rule when you hit 30 your gone..i noticed that when i was 12 but suprisingly hilde is the first women in a canon namco game to make it even when they're over the age of 30
Even though well done, I still call this a bullshit, still males can still kick ass until probably 55 yo, when females do indeed lose atractiveness after 30-35 tops. Even if they add Seung Mina in 5th game, she'd still look like a 23 yo with gray hairs. Seriously, have you seen 40 yo women even? How many of them are hot? And what is even a point of having a non-hot female character in game? Joke? I don't know, I don't see the point, I'm with Namco on this one.
@vwolf80 Oh, come on... Now, girls in fighting games only exist because they are cute? If you need to masturbate so bad, go see some porn. I really don't care about the appearance of the characters, and I will not keep quiet just because of a rough rule. By the way, you can take a look on Kylie Minogue, for example. She is 43 and still a beautiful woman.
also i want to see is Talim in SC5 which her moves is different from others and she's only 17 in SC5 come on she would have 34 yrs on SCV but come on namco return her into the game
Dicember-January its the lasts month of the release of characters soo bring back Talim,Taki,Setsuka and Seung Mina
Supposedly Taki is supposed to be in the next game. They said she probably won't be wearing tights anymore. I'm hoping she isn't limited to some cameo role...
chubbier? I don't know, nor do I care, about how other may perceive wider hips, but "chubby" certainly is not the adjective; voluptuous, definitely. Oh, and you would not unintentionally crush Seung Mina in bed, those anorexic stick figures taking pot shots at her....well, best of luck.
namco is so narrow minded when it comes to females if old versions of our male characters can still be cool than older women can still be hot besides these women like the male characters train alot so its to expected that still look beautiful
while i like the idea of what you are trying to say, the problem with this is you are a very small subsect going against a very large corperation, that no matter what will continue to make money, if you truely wanna make a difference you need to spread the word much much farther and even go so far as to boycott the game unless said changes are made, and so far the only thing you guys are threatening is to like the game a little less if they don't meat your demands
@TheWorldisJCK if chun-li is 46 now, does this mean sakura kasugano is finally legal? i hate it when character info keeps women at one age all the time
@TheWorldisJCK Lol, what are you talking about? The characters don't exist outside of their game's universe. It's 2011 in OUR world, not Chun Li's. Any depiction you see of Chun Li in videos games, artwork, or film is NOT relative to OUR timeline in the REAL world. Chun Li and any fictional character is defined by THEIR timeline in THEIR universe.
So, if you play SF2 in 2068, Chun Li won't be 100 years old. She will still be 23, as Capcom defined her to be back in 1991.
@TheWorldisJCK Present times, that's correct. That's why Capcom is so hesitant about making a Street Fighter game based on present time, but instead makes the stories based on the 80s and 90s. They'd fear that fans would s**t bricks.
Seong Mina not being in the game, and giving some of her moves to Xiba, was a better choice to increase the chances of new unique weapons and movesets to come in. Much like how Rock is. Seems that Namco apparently thinks that 40 years old women can not be sexy or beautiful, ,just look at :
Jennifer connelly, Jennifer Aniston, Rachel Weisz.
AlastorDarkknight 1 month ago
@AlastorDarkknight Of course, those people have entire teams of people dedicated to keeping them looking much younger than they actually are, but yes, there are plenty of other examples, as well.

Their are rumors that even though the roster is filled there might be a chance that Cassandra will be in SC V so there shouldnt be a reason why Seung Mina cant be in it too. and I prefer her over Kilik or Xiba for some reason I can play her better than Kilik, So I'm supporting for Seung Mina's return for SC V.
Shadow866 1 month ago
Roster was filled... Seong Mina isn't coming back :(
eastreddragon 1 month ago
What about Hilde? She's 35 in SC V.
Gigamaster77 1 month ago
@Gigamaster77 Also Mina needs to come back because apparently Goku(I call him that because they're both based off the same thing) is replacing both Mina and Kilik, and Kilik is back but he is apparently now a mimic character for men.
Gigamaster77 1 month ago
@Gigamaster77 She is now the oldest (NOT BONUS OR CUSTOMIZED) female character, because ivy still 32, I don't know why Namco don't bring back for SCV at least Talim, Cassandra, and Xianghua because they would have 32, 38 and 37 respectively, For my women around that ages are not that old, in my opinion the creators just want to sell and make more money by introducing new young girls they keep (and gain new) male (pervert) audience for the franchise.

I agree with this video, so far they have replaced many of the female characters, they only bring back Hilde, Ivy and Tira.

RichardRich89 1 month ago
@RichardRich89 Males develop awkwardly in their earliest years of biological development, but eventually age like fine wine as they get older after reaching their prime. But they die much quicker than females.
The ratio between elderly male characters above eighty balances out to females who are in their mid-teens, notably sixteen to eighteen. SoulCalibur and Tekken are good examples.
The oldest characters are always male, and the youngest and freshest characters are always female.
RichardRich89 1 month ago
@RichardRich89 Well, technically speaking, Astaroth is the youngest character in SC, and he's male.
Dinodan3 1 month ago
@Dinodan3 I didn't really think about that. I guess I was speaking in human terms. But technically you are right. One wouldn't have guessed that the original Astaroth was 7 years old, or that his successor in SCV was a year old, as huge as they are.
But then again, many of the non-human characters in Soul Calibur have ages that vary from most recently born, to 20,000 years old. It's weird.
RichardRich89 1 month ago
@RichardRich89 There's a couple of problems with your reasoning, but I'll point out the most obvious: you're assuming that mid-teens for females = >80 for males, and it doesn't. I agree with you on the aging thing, but the thing is, 1) this isn't reality, and 2) Vid maker has a point. Think, can you name one female in a Namco or any fighting game who looks over 40? There are no female equivalents to Heihachi or Wang. Females get the boot when they get around Kazuya's age.
theunpopulartruth99 3 weeks ago
@theunpopulartruth99 What can any of us do about it? It's unrealistic to keep a female in a game who reaches past her prime, unless she is was kept in some form of statis or is immortal and/or ageless.
RichardRich89 3 weeks ago
@RichardRich89 Realistically I don't have a say: it's Namco's IP, and they can do whatever they want with it. I'm just saying what I think is logical in my opinion. In my opinion, it is not logical to boot out main characters, with no explanation whatsoever, simply because they are female and old. I don't think it was logical to boot out the males either, but the way Namco did with the females in this game was beyond shameful, it was stupid. It really was. Seong Mina was a ...
theunpopulartruth99 3 weeks ago
@RichardRich89 regular since Soul Blade. There was a pretty nice story line going about her, Hwang, Yun, her father and dojo, and the search for the sword to prevent the invasion of Korea by Japan. She interacted with a lot of characters offscreen (Taki, Sophi, Kilik, Edgemaster, Ivy, etc). The argument could be made that she was more integral to the story of Soul Edge than someone like Mitsurugi or Yoshimitsu, both of who stayed in. Same could be said for Sophita, Taki, or Cass.
theunpopulartruth99 3 weeks ago
@RichardRich89 The reason I look to Namco's law for this is that the female characters who were removed were VERY important to the story, to the point where it would be easier to just let them stay in and finish their story. Their absence is glaring, and makes no sense except in context of Namco's Law. There is no reason why they couldn't have been in the game at 40 or so. Realism has nothing to do with it, realistically most elderly people aren't as strong as Heihachi.
theunpopulartruth99 3 weeks ago
(cont) It's to the point where they screwed up the story and kicked out a bunch of fan favorites just to keep the girls under 30. Don't get me wrong, that isn't the only stupid thing they did with the cast, and there were plenty of male members who got sent up the river. Namco's law is just one thing that is screwed up with the cast, and the most obvious reason why he females who had integral storylines (Mina, Sophi, Talim, Taki), got the boot in favor of uninteresting characters.
theunpopulartruth99 3 weeks ago
@RichardRich89 Yes but a woman in her early thirties is still fine. So young characters like Talim have no reason to be missing.
EkiAku 3 weeks ago
I don't have a problem with old ladies in fighting games, really... but I don't want to see characters that used to be young become old. Fighting game characters are all about archetypes/stereotypes, whatever the word is, and for me, the young, naive but feisty archetype turning into an old lady just doesn't feel right for me. If they create a new character that's the archetype of the wise old lady, I got no probs with that.
MrMonkeypooface 1 month ago

MJNSEIFER 1 month ago
@MJNSEIFER Kunimitsu got expelled from his clan way before they were attacked by bryan. Beside she wasnt much of a fan favorite back then. So either she's dead or Namco just dont have any good storyline with her.
