  • I just watched Eric and Ernie and I have to say that Daniel Rigby and Bryan Dick did a good job of playing these two! Not as good as the real thing of course but still...!

  • Brilliant - only perverted fools would think that these 2 men were not engaging in gay sex, why else would they share a bed?

  • @fl3162 Actually, as Ernie Wise stated in an interview, This came from a time where sharing a bed came about because of economics, not sexual activity. Believe it or not there was actually a time where people shared a room and bed simply because it was a more affordable way of doing things with no sexual liaisons involved.

  • @fl3162 I think it's cute that they share a bed with no gay innuendo! I wish more men were so casual about sharing a bed!

  • The punchline should have been wine gums; that way it would have been really funny coz the Ernie would have been begging Eric to give him one!

  • Absoloutley fantastic, Funny jokes, But it was the visual stuff i.e. facial expressions, movements and timing that made these two really great.

  • I once shook Eric Morecombes hand hand. I had just been for a douglas and I hadn't washed my hands

  • 9 people who dont like comedy and the best comedy duo ever..

  • Back then, two men sharing a bed was surrealism. Now, two men sharing a flat with separate bedrooms is just assumed to be sexual.

But something would have cracked the sexlessness of the scene - if Eric hadn't worn his spectacles to bed. Imagine him without them in the sketch - less absurd, less surreal, less easy to avoid thoughts of teh ghey.

  • i know it's sad that the world now would freak out and laugh and be silly about to guys in bed, back then it wouldn't of bothered anyone :(

  • this is sweet storie apprentlay eric wanted give up comdey with erin write instead but didn't want to let erin down i though it was sweet

  • @moosey62 From the way you write, were you actually old enough to watch M&W at their prime. I don`t like Maggie either, but lots of people in showbusiness did support her in the early days.Eric and Ernie generally managed to keep out of politics.

  • @moosey62 what an idiot! the only one writing crap on here is you, you tool, why bring politics into a discussion about british comedy??? tony blair did the catherine tate show??? john prescott did gavin and stacy?? go and learn about politics and talk about it on the relevent forums, not here - dickhead

  • @moosey62 Fuck off Eric was a national treasure and the shows were pure golden comedy so just fuck off

  • @moosey62 i would suggest you seek councilling,as it appears you were born without a liking for laughter and humour, you poor sad cretin.

  • true 2 men in bed and no one said or thought anything of it...mind yoiu ppl kept it to themselves more in those days ...aye Elton ..hehe

  • with some of the brits who came out of the variety tradition, the humor seems a little too strained, too practiced, displaying none of the spontaneity or genuine gift for effortless improvisation like you get with a real comic genius like tony hancock. some comedians succeeded almost in spite of themselves--they were *that* good. apparently, M&W struggled ans labored to finally break into the big time after early disasters, like their TV debut.

  • @1johncain

By the time Hancocks Half Hour was on TV, he couldn't do a sketch without idiot boards around the set (too pissed up to learn lines) - you can see him 'reading' in the Blood Donor etc. His "comeback" show at the Palladium in 66 he reverted to material over a decade old and seen 100s of times.

But to claim he was some "effortless improvisation" "genius" ? Very funny, that

  • this is all a bit indecent. Two men in bed ? A bit perverted IMO

  • @welshnick300365

    ... whoosh...!

  • The best comedy duo, EVER!

  • It is unbelievable how we will never have comedy like this again.... I wasn't born when comedy like this was broadcast but I am so glad I love and appreciate old comedy which in my books is the BEST! Morecambe & Wise are comic legends just like The Two Ronnies. They are irreplaceable and that's how it should stay, there will be no1 like these's two!

  • Well loved these two.... and i love them too... mom used to watch them alot and i watched them with her and we cried with laughter at some of there jokes well... all of there jokes... the best comedy pair ^_^

  • "i want 2 no the secret 2 long life!"

    "...puffins"

    y not seagull? :[

  • See how times change? Back then it was just a funny comedy sketch and a silly situation. Today it'd be gay this and gay that. Sigh. Wlcome to the 21st century.

  • My favourite of the bed sketches was the one where they try and switch the lights off and they keep switching the other one on and then ernie trying to remove his "wig" and eric tries to catch him in the act... needs to be on Youtube!

  • "You're not going to read that book , are you?"

"No I'm just gonna look at the words you fool!"

    Brilliant!

  • I found details of all their sketches on morecambeandwise tribue site.

  • The best part of the M&W shows were when they were in bed together. For some reason, it was when they were at their funniest. Any possibility of more of their bed sketches; this seems to be the only one.

  • The comedy duo were great. God bless them!

  • He had a pipe, that's why! They can't be gay, he's got a pipe. And they're Northern. Not a sexy accent (I know). And Eric eats sweets and reads comics. They're not adults, so it's not sexy!

    Bloody funny though!

  • @dmd185 Back in the old days before Travel inn and such when you was working away you stayed in boarding house's B&B's and the like, you sometimes had to have a double bed cos that was all they had, nobody thought anything of it. Lorry drivers Builders travelling salesmen, engineers, all sorts of working men vary rarely if you had arrived late you might have to share a double with a stranger even , a bit awkward but there wasnt the crime then and Bum banditry was still illegal

  • the best bedroom scene was the one where eric told ern that it was a red sky at night and it wont be good for him tomorrow.... when ern told him he ment red sky at night shepards delight, eric turned to him and sais no....it still wont be good for him... when asked why, eric told him its a red sky at night...because erns bank was on fire........classic

  • @breadboy05 "He won't sell much ice cream going at that speed!" :D

  • hes got a fair gift for his age lol

  • oh lord that outfit nearly made my breakfast come back up! lol

  • wey hey for the Gaelic. Haha, died trying to catch a puffin....

  • Where is that one where Eric trys to catch Ernie taking his wig off

    "Aaaaahhhh BALDY!!!"?

  • torquey thats were i live ^^

  • The only other pair of male comedians who slept together in their sketches, were Laurel and Hardy.

It was a measure of their totally innocuous image as loved and respected icons of laughter.

  • This is benjie164's sister my brother never watch Morcambe on wise I love it! Shame they died!

I watch like the most favourited one in order! Have you all seen the breakfast one?? Apparently that was the best for people! Have you seen the Andre Previn one or should I say Preview what they called him! He was like such a serious man soo soo serious and they made fun of him like MAD! BYE!

  • They certainly contributed.

  • do u have the morecambe and wise video of the one where eric quotes hes not going to sell many ice creams going at that speed

  • /watch?v=GgA32g_AWqs

    the quote is at 9.38

  • @femaleanimal trying to find the sketch where eric and ernie

play tweetie and sylvester - was hilarious. do you by any

chance have it ,or know where i could find it? thanks

  • @femaleanimal The sketch is from 14/01/1970.

  • Yees, they're pure genius, but did they ever write their own material?

  • i believe in the early days they did and later on they still wrote the material with input from other writers. that being said, eric morecambe's performances were always filled with spontaniety sometimes to such an extent i'd imagine they had little bearing on the script. considering that eric toured as well, i suppose he would've had a lot of his own material anyway

  • Actually Eric was famously obsessed with routines and getting it correct, he worked insanely hard. Very very little of any of their performances is ad lib, one of the few which I know of is when Des O'Connor was on and he changed the script. Eric really didn't like that at all, he isn't kidding when he complains in the sketch!

  • @flanksy Probably why their sketches work, also when the script changes its funny to see their reaction, even if they make the tiniest mistake that don't let it slip that easily...

  • They were really part of the family. They shared every Christmas with us. I am richer for having grown up with them.

  • classic. these two are the best there was the best there is and the best there ever will be.

'thats another fine mess youve got me in to'

    lol

  • "147 years old and he never had a days illness in his life"

"what about the day that he died?"

"well yes i admit he wasn't feeling too good that day"

    ahahaha love them :D x x

  • Absolutely Brilliant.

  • Wanna fight????

    Absolute genius.

  • as always brilliant

  • I wonder what "A puffin a day keeps the doctor away... and a few other people too" is in Gàidhlig now.

    :D

    I love 'em both.

  • ABSOLUTELY LOVE 'EM!

    i love M&W

click onto my name, i have many M&W videos on there, including never before seen clips!

    A real must see :)

    Comment and rate

    love x

  • Eddie Braben wrote the gags. Eric and Ernie delivered it perfectly.

  • lol morcambe and wise are the best I have a vid of them

  • love 'em!

  • Absolutely superb work. Funny, witty, relaxed. We sorely miss this kind of 'class' today.

  • Ant and Dec are funny- they work well together. But Eric doesn't need to say anything- that exasperated expression of his is enough to have anyone in kinks! Same with Tommy Cooper, just walking onstage and the audience would erupt!

    __________________________________________

Well said mate i completely agree with the Tommy Cooper bit! Laurel and Hardy, Morcambe and Wise, Tommy Cooper.

Greatest 3 comedy acts of all time.

  • Ant and Dec are a couple of sycophantioc pricks!

  • Morecambe & Wise were entertainers tho... ant & dec are merely presenters

  • go on then what have u achieved that is so gr8 that makes u better than these pair

  • well said! these guys are two of the best guys in british comedy history! mayb the best! they are better than that twat ten times over!

  • Hey Bimie never wish you were oldr, life is short :-)

I think you would like the sit com Absolutley Fabulous,it on you tube but you have to watch it a few times to get into the charchters.

    Lots of funny english shows.

  • i wish i was 20-30 years older that way i could have seen this show

  • Cause that's how they look funny.Guess you don't know these 2 blokes.Very Funny

  • Wrong dude, I grew up with these two on television. I was born in Glasgow. In the old days when I saw them in Bed together didn't think much of it, I was probably too young, but now it looks a bit odd two straight men in bed together.

Just an observation. you wouldn't see it now a days

  • they got the gag frm laural and hardy but in general (to make it more butch lol) eric morcambe would smoke a pipe in bed lol. xxx

  • funny as these to my dad got me into this funny as:)

  • funny as these to my dad got me into this funny as:)

  • Morecambe and wise, the best comedy duo ever, they can never be matched or beaten. I love em' xxxx

  • they come second best only to the originators of comedy....Laurel and Hardy...after all, they did the bed scenes first ;)

  • Thing think is that each one relies on the other, that's why they're such a great double act. Ernie sets up the jokes and Eric gets the laugh.

  • i love Eric Morecambe (one with glasses for those who dont know) even his face expressions make me laugh =]

absolute comic genius and will never be beaten!

  • Eric was just like my grandad,i love him! Ernie was lost without him.

  • I think they are brilliant. Really funny and entertaining. I love all their sketches, I just wish I was born when they were on telly in the '70's. Great video Thank you.

  • nice long johns grandad!

  • I DONT WANT A WINEGUM!!!

  • Morecambe and Wise were just a good comedy duo and no they weren't a couple

  • It stems from the depression of the early 20th Century and when people had to share beds because they were poor. As big fans of Laurel and Hardy, they were convinced by the writer that being in bed could be ok. And it was :)

  • "Winegum?" - classic lol

  • one of the best trios ever set foot on the earth doubt ther will be another pair like them to

  • Trios? Surely they are one of the worst ever trios as they are missing an all important ingredient, a third person. Duos, now we're talking. The best double act of all time.

  • its not clever, but it is funny! Not enough of this now! Little Britain, take note, repetitive quirky catchphrases does not a comedy make!

  • I punched a very old friend of mine because he wouldn't stop with Little Britain phrases.

  • An extreme reaction, but perfectly understandable. Repeating an inane phrase over and over is not comedy. Its just boring! You still mates? Force feed him Morcambe and Wise Sketches like this one, he'll soon come round!

  • We're still mates, he just has a problem with things he finds funny... he keeps repeating them over and over... I mean anything...

  • Ant and Dec are funny- they work well together. But Eric doesn't need to say anything- that exasperated expression of his is enough to have anyone in kinks! Same with Tommy Cooper, just walking onstage and the audience would erupt!

  • I dont like modern comedy. I dont need it when I can watch DVDs of Morecambe and Wise.

  • they are the funniest of the funniest...absolute genius

  • I Find there funnier than ant and dec tbh

    But thats jus my opinion

  • ant and dec have nothing on these two, in SM:TV live ant and dec were funny but now they are stupid ITV's little pets. M&W are timeless classics

  • enit thats what i am sayin lol

but i av neva watched all ov em i jus saw it advertise on uktv gold and i fort it was funny:D:D TH3R3 G3NIOUS

  • i think they are the best ever!

  • classic thanxs 4 uploadin

  • Your not goin to read that book are you?"

"no, im just goin to look at the words you fool" Classical!!

  • true true

Morecambe & Wise are the ultimate comedic genius'...

  • Ant & Dec eat your hearts out.

  • Ant & Dec don't really deserve to be in the same breath as Eric and Ernie, no matter how cute they are.

  • both brilliant :-)

  • pure undiluted comedy genius

  • WELL SAID FetidToecheese!

  • Not sure if you all know but you can get series 1 and 2 now on dvd from any decent retailer, and series 3 is coming out in August. Looks like the bbc have got their behind in gear at last.

  • two of the greatest and no smut in sight

  • anyone got the Andre Previn sketch where eric is "playing the right notes, but not in the right order".Brilliant stuff

  • ha ha! Have you seen MR LONELY - Adapting the novel by Eric Morecambe copy and paste it into the search on youtube! It's excellent! :0)

  • Shakespeare was good when he was wirting for laurence olivier!!!! pure genius, thanks for making me smile!!!

  • Forget Princess Di, it was a huge loss for us when Eric went..

  • I agree. I cried when eric died, such talent, and when Di died - well, lets say I didnt cry.

  • and his legacy to the nation... ...happiness!

  • ice cream for anyone ???

  • absolute brilliance nobody can ever come close to bringing the shear magic that eric & ernie brought to our screens. happy memories lol. rip

  • people sharin beds back then wasn't viewed as it is nowadays

  • I know... it's like people now are actually less tolerant than they used to be. If someone is physically close to someone else in any way, people just assume there's sex involved somewhere.

  • Apparently,M & W had a few reservations about sharing a bed on tv,knowing how folk misconstrue things.

When they found out Laurel & Hardy always shared a bed in their movies, that sealed the deal.

  • wonderful comedians that inspired a generation of fast off the cuff gagsters, and no one ever questions why 2 men shared a bed the comedy genius of these two shall live on forever and ever.

  • Love the relationship between the two. 'You're not gonna read that book, are you?' -'No, I'm just gonna look at the words, you fool!' Brilliant.

  • Eric apparently resisited the suggestion that they be seen sharing a bed. Until someone told him that Laurel & Hardy did this...with no conatations...as they were so innocent....Eric said "If it was good enough for them, then it's good enough for us!"

  • Sharing a bed wasn`t necessary - neither was slapping Ernie`s face or singing Bring Me Sunshine! Sharing a bed emphasised their closeness. It was part of their charm.

  • Was it really necessary for them to share a bed?

There most celebrated material first debuted on BBC2.They wanted to be seen in colour and, in 1968, only BBC2 had that option.

  • Tea Urn - lol.

  • Despite sharing a bed, you never thought they'd go all the way did you?

I love these guys - the idea of them sharing a bed is brilliant.

  • Great stuff. I recently got hold of Graham McCann's biography, and have fascinated by their story over the last two or three weeks ...

    "wanna fight?" That's wonderful! :-)

  • The timing of that is beautiful, isn`t it?
