Nah, that wasn't what I meant. Many people write something like "credits go to the artists", but "artists" is just...

I mean, they spent hours on a drawing and people don't take the minute to list their names, leave alone not asking for permission. You're not the only one and I don't think it's as bad as art theft since you don't claim them as yours, but it's a bit depressing nonetheless.

I'm sure there isnt any harm in not listing all the artist's names, i mean: do u kno how long it would take to do that, when in my case my vids have something like 40 to 60 draws alone and not all of them made by the same person? it would take a whole song just to name them all, lol

And i really dont think the people that drew them are so hard-assed that they wouldnt let them use their drawings as long as they're used in an appropriate way, right?

I don't think they'd be particularly pissed (though a few might be). But think of it like that: If you found someone posting one of your videos you spent lots of time on and he just wrote "not made by me", wouldn't you ask him why he didn't ask for permission or at least wrote down your name?

I don't say add the credits to the video, but at least writing it down in the video info shouldn't be too much.

Ok, but there is a flaw in that: most of the pics i find are on Photobucket and i have seen it where the same pic can be posted 5 or 6 different times and under different ppl, do i have to ask all of them for permission? It isn't as bad on DA where maybe the same pic will be posted 2 or 3 times. At least on that site it's easier to tell who the original artist is.

I know, that's another problem. People uploading the art from DA to photobucket. That makes it even harder (or almost impossible) to find the original source. That's why people started adding bigass watermarks to their art which I totally understand.

yeah I know, and even ones that are on photobucket but aren't from DA get uploaded more than once. one of the draws for the new video i'm doing has a watermark/ DA symbol right smack-dab in the middle of it. I understand it too, really i do.

The whole matter is quite an issue these days and I doubt it can be solved to begin with. While sharing a drawing you liked with others is quite nice, it ends up with art "sleep walking" through the net. That's why I'm not really a fan of photobucket.

It's not like I blame you personally for using the drawings (lol, it's not like I'm in the position to lecture anyone), just that making others aware of this matter seems to be a step into the right direction.

True and i will take that awareness with me into the future and try to make concessions where i can.

I'd use DA exclusively if i could, but photobucket does have a nice selection of not just drawings but also stills taken from, as in animes, the show themselves which does make it easy if you're trying to find a specific type of picture.

Besides, when I use clips from anime for AMVs it's not THAT different from this matter and that alone makes me the wrong person who should go "Don't you!" on others. But the slice of awareness doesn't hurt anyone.

And then there also are those glorious people who are aware and even go a step further and sell art without permission - spending days on something and then some *beep* makes money out of it and you find out one day and can't do anything about it - YAY...

Same here, I think it has to do with the sites us "old people" visit.

Youtube, facebook, myspace and the like are tailored to the "younger" crowds, sure you can find ppl around our age there but more often than not, they won't have the same interests as us.

Luckily for all my life I've been able to communicate with ppl that are younger than me and at the same time talk to older ppl and be an important part of the conversation, it's always been the ones the same age as me i have problems with.

There have never really been people in my daily life I could have talked about anime and similar things with. So when I discovered the internet (I already was relatively old by then) I was so glad I found some place where others were obsessed with the same things.

I think it's wonderful how you can just comment on something here or on DA and people instantly get what you are talking about. I can't make anime or cartoon references at work. I have a few inside jokes with my younger sister and other relatives, but the whole bandwidth of "jokes only people who watched the same show would get" can only be spread on the net
