While in the USAF I trained and worked with a total of eight of these wonderful dogs. Insanely easy to train and loyal like no other. I miss every one of them.

@warriorcatsLPSwolves it's not a german shepherd, it's an American white shepherd, they are technically the same breed, but because the white coat is a fault, the American white shepherd was created. It's kinda stupid though since dogs with over 50% white coats are more prone to being born blind.

Hehe my german Sheperd would never be a police dog hes such a wimp he scared of everything!!!! And he is so pretective if we have people over to our house he goes crazy and starts barking at them for at least 5 minutes after they walk in the door and if some1 comes close to me when i walk him i feel so safe at night!!!!!

I picked up Sam this last Monday, the top dog trainer in our area somehow ended up with him. He is 15 months old just a giant puppy that knows heel etc. Also eat your face, I need training more than Sam, but he is a wonderful dog, we have bonded. Great dogs 100% class.

I dont know why people say one dog is better than another breed. All breeds have their own purpose, and ALL are best when doing what they were bred to do.

But the thing is, Labs are great dogs when hunting/retrieving. Border Collies are great at herding. Huskies are best when they are in a harness. They are ALL great. I guess thats part of being a dog-lover, love all breeds for what they can do. My favorite dogs are GSDs and Rottweilers. I have a Rotti, and am getting a GDS working line pup soon.
Im planning to get this puppy, its mother is a pure GSD, and the dad is half golden retriever and half GSD so do you think the puppy would be alot like a pure GSD? And i have a Shih Tzu that still a puppy do you think they would get aong?

@BunnysiEat I got a Pure Shepherd instead (: hes 9 weeks old but plays a little rough with my 15month old Shih Tzu and dont think there really gettting along. I would never neglect my Shih Tzu too cuddly and love him too much (:

@teddybear4422 i had a dog called sheba she ws 12 and recently died in the summer holidays because the socket on her hip joint had worn away, but those 12 years were amazing loyal, smart, fat XD but lovely.

@stevenekin2 when I got my German shepherd my partner and I started training him early on. As soon as we could take him out (after his injections) We started training him to the lead and teaching him basic commands. I found it really helpful to introduce him to as many different situations as early as possible, getting him used to traffic, crowds, children, visitors in the home etc. And try and introduce him to different dogs to help socialise him. also set the boundaries in place early on. A girl in my class had a German shepherd and that dog was anything but a biter. Often it's not the dogs fault but the owners that these dogs become angry, cause they don't train them right
@KiteSwift I'm not disagreeing with what your saying but quite often it's a case of the bark being worse than the bite. If anyone knocks at my door it sounds like my German shepherd is ready to attack. However, it's a different story when I actually open the door. He's the most loveable dog. He welcomes friends, family or strangers. He's also great with kids and other dogs. All he wants to do is play and be made a fuss of.
Beuatiful and fantastic dogs, but very strong on the guarding/protective instinct. Not a recommended breed if you want a dog that will welcome your friends into the house with ease. If you like wolfy looking dogs but don't want the unpredictable aggression i would recommened a Northern Inuit Dog. They are beautiful and very strong but too friendly to be guard dogs.

It really makes me mad when people comment on certain breeds of dog when they clearly haven't a clue. German shepherds are one if the most loyal, intelligent, and loving dogs. Of course a dog is going to be vicious if it's trained that way, but that has nothing to do with breed. And as for looks, you don't get much better than a handsome German shepherd. Labs are lovely dogs, but for me a German shepherd wins hands down!

@Jamesdurbinrules First of all I said Elegant. Not intelligent (Which the Poodle and the Border Collie top the shepherd in.). Secondly it's not way smarter. In fact it's only slightly smarter. Add to that, Labradors are more loving and loveable than a German Shepherd. The Shepherd feel like an ordinary animal. A Labrador feels like a member of the family.

White color isn't recent, it is as old as the other colors, actually older then the sable. The sable is the youngest color among the GSD.
I wish they would have shown the immense difference between working and show GSDs. It is the show shepherd that is most sick.
They fail to notice that you have to channel the dogs energy, they usually have an immense hunting drive (because that is what is utilized in working with them) and are not a dog for starters.
I want to get a german shepherd but I'm scared of it attacking my parents, friends, family, etc. Can anyone help me out on how to get it not to do this, if anyone would help me I'd be very grateful :)

@Mattisnotavailabable The whole about them being prone to biting people is a myth honestly, the only time any of the GSD I have owned has bitten anyone was to protect me . Just make sure that you socialise the dog well when it is young and you shouldn't have any problems :)
@Mattisnotavailabable when u go buy a gsd( german shepherd) make sure u take your family and your best friends with you and if u want your gsd to be friend with your friends have your friends come to your house and play with your gsd for sometime that way the dog will memorize that the people are your friends wont hurt you.
@Mattisnotavailabable np i recently bought a 11 months old female gsd for like 150 bucks the family who gave it away said that she was "very" agrressive against people so they wanted to get rid of her but once i went there with my family to pick her up she growled for like maybe 1 min but once we brought her to our house she just went into the house and cheaked it out and met my 7 months old puppy and very protective even tho she just got here u can see her and my puppy's vid on my channel.

@sniper rifle... No dog is aggressive unless you make them that way... Shepherds need to be socialized from a young age and get exposed to all kinds of people / animals I have one and he's an amazing animal :)!

A German Shepherd isn't the same thing as an Alsatian (or Alsatian Shepalute). An Alsatian was developed through selective breeding of the German Shepherd, Karabash (or Anatolian Shepherd), Alaskan Malamute, Grand Pyrenees and English Mastiff.
@KKKSuperFans Um a GSD and an Alsatian are the exact same thing! The people in the UK started calling them Alsatians because there was a great dislike of anything German during the great wars, please research things better before posting stuff that is totally misleading .
I have a German Shepherd and I'm still shocked by how intelligent and overprotective they can be. I went to the park with my niece and my dog and the dog literally sat there watching over her the entire time. Anyone approached and he'd stand up and just glare at them making sure they didn't make any attempts at anything. And pretty good in the bush too if you decide to go hunting with them.

If anyone knocks at my door it sounds like my German shepherd is ready to attack. However, it's a different story when I actually open the door. He's the most loveable dog. He welcomes friends, family or strangers. He's also great with kids and other dogs. All he wants to do is play and be made a fuss of.

Beuatiful and fantastic dogs, but very strong on the guarding/protective instinct. Not a recommended breed if you want a dog that will welcome your friends into the house with ease. If you like wolfy looking dogs but don't want the unpredictable aggression i would recommened a Northern Inuit Dog. They are beautiful and very strong but too friendly to be guard dogs.

It really makes me mad when people comment on certain breeds of dog when they clearly haven't a clue. German shepherds are one if the most loyal, intelligent, and loving dogs. Of course a dog is going to be vicious if it's trained that way, but that has nothing to do with breed. And as for looks, you don't get much better than a handsome German shepherd. Labs are lovely dogs, but for me a German shepherd wins hands down!

I have been blessed with a life surrounded of all kind of wonderful dog breeds and i can assure you none is more loving than the next.

@Jamesdurbinrules First of all I said Elegant. Not intelligent (Which the Poodle and the Border Collie top the shepherd in.). Secondly it's not way smarter. In fact it's only slightly smarter. Add to that, Labradors are more loving and loveable than a German Shepherd. The Shepherd feel like an ordinary animal. A Labrador feels like a member of the family.

White color isn't recent, it is as old as the other colors, actually older then the sable. The sable is the youngest color among the GSD.
I wish they would have shown the immense difference between working and show GSDs. It is the show shepherd that is most sick.
They fail to notice that you have to channel the dogs energy, they usually have an immense hunting drive (because that is what is utilized in working with them) and are not a dog for starters.

@Mattisnotavailabable The whole about them being prone to biting people is a myth honestly, the only time any of the GSD I have owned has bitten anyone was to protect me . Just make sure that you socialise the dog well when it is young and you shouldn't have any problems :)

@Mattisnotavailabable when u go buy a gsd( german shepherd) make sure u take your family and your best friends with you and if u want your gsd to be friend with your friends have your friends come to your house and play with your gsd for sometime that way the dog will memorize that the people are your friends wont hurt you.

@Mattisnotavailabable np i recently bought a 11 months old female gsd for like 150 bucks the family who gave it away said that she was "very" agrressive against people so they wanted to get rid of her but once i went there with my family to pick her up she growled for like maybe 1 min but once we brought her to our house she just went into the house and cheaked it out and met my 7 months old puppy and very protective even tho she just got here u can see her and my puppy's vid on my channel.

@sniper rifle... No dog is aggressive unless you make them that way... Shepherds need to be socialized from a young age and get exposed to all kinds of people / animals I have one and he's an amazing animal :)!

A German Shepherd isn't the same thing as an Alsatian (or Alsatian Shepalute). An Alsatian was developed through selective breeding of the German Shepherd, Karabash (or Anatolian Shepherd), Alaskan Malamute, Grand Pyrenees and English Mastiff.

I have a German Shepherd and I'm still shocked by how intelligent and overprotective they can be. I went to the park with my niece and my dog and the dog literally sat there watching over her the entire time. Anyone approached and he'd stand up and just glare at them making sure they didn't make any attempts at anything. And pretty good in the bush too if you decide to go hunting with them.
