The violin is good for a beginner, this is my first violin and i got it for Christmas, a good violin and the bows that come along with it, the bows do well. The only problem is the strings it comes with. The strings do not have that great of a sound, the A and E strings are very scratchy and hard to tune. I advice to get better strings, like for example im using Red Label strings for mine, when i compared the strings the strings that came orginally with it was very thin compared to others.
@dogs10156 - If the case is a concern then maybe you would like to find a better outfit or buy a case on the side. This case does the job but appears to be quite cheap. I've heard reports of things falling apart. I don't have one at home at the moment.
@GuitarFreak1901 - It is rare that a person plays on a left handed violin. Tons of left-handed people play the normal right handed violin. Trouble is if you play in an ensemble with a left handed violin and collide with your partner :-)
Whether it is more important to have a great fingering hand or bow hand on the favorite hand is not really known.
Aw, I was so excited about the raffle, then I saw the date :(
I've been longing to learn to play violin for years, but cost is such a barrier, even at $100. Hopefully someday...for now I'll just keep dreaming and loving listening to others play :)
@sciamhach - Fortunately for you there is a giveaway coming up soon. Just go to fiddlerman. com and follow the instructions for the give-away. There are not that many in the competition right now. I think four or five as of now. The violin that will be given away is the CVN-500
If you do go through the violins yourself you would have a legitimately good reason to have the same price as kk music does on their CVN 200 violin even without having the extra items.
@dogs10156 - The profit is so small that shipping it to me first would eat up any chance of a profit. Maybe in the future when I have purchased enough instruments from Cecilio they will be offering better prices. I wish I could do that though. Cost for me to send a violin via UPS is a minimum of $20 if I don't have it picked up.
@dogs10156 - There are actually some instruments that I can offer for less than KK. Just call Fiddlershop for a price. Can't do much for you on the CVN 200 though.
@dogs10156 - KK musicstore is cheaper on some products. They have been doing this for a long time and they are a great store to deal with as well according to my members from before I opened my shop. There are also products that I offer for less than they do but if I brought down the price on this particular violin I wouldn't make anything. My guess is that they buy bulk CVN200's and get a special price. That is probably how they can afford to add those items.
Hey, I was just wondering what your reason is that should make me buy the CVN 200 from your website instead of the kkmusic store where I can get a free extra shoulder rest, free tuner, and a free lesson book dvd. than you
@dogs10156 - Buy it from KK - You get the same SR the only thing you don't get are the lesson book and tuner. I give free learning materials and an online tuner which is easier to tune the violin with on FiddlerMan. com plus much more. You'll see when you get your violin. Good luck with it.
That is fine, it was mostly my dad asking for the discount code. I did more research on the violin then he did, and I already know only 99$ is an amazing price for such an amazing violin.
@dogs10156 - The bows are made out of wood but I don't really like them very much. Pretty much junk but it does have real horse hair. You could always buy a fiddlerman carbon fiber bow :-)
@dogs10156 - The CVN200 would work better in high school because it blends in with everyone else's instruments. The black one would stick out. You may eventually want to get better strings, adjust the bridge and maybe sound-post but otherwise yes, for sure.
would you totally recommend this violin to a beginner, or should a beginner just rent? Also knowing that if someone did buy this violin, How long could they have it until it would start to annoy them with things like the sound quality etc? On a scale of one to ten, what would you give this violin if it was to be used by an INTERMEDIATE player?
@dogs10156 - Good questions. I would totally recommend it for sound quality but I have no idea how long it will last. A great violin will last many lifetimes. I believe this would to. I recommend the CVN-200 over this one. You can't buy a better violin for the money. I would play one myself so I don't think it would annoy you but they are hand made and differentiate very much from one another. I loved the one I tested. My new Jan Larson cost me about 18K
Oh, I want a violin, but I live in Sweden. What's more worth, buying a used one like "4/4 stiener" or "Antonius Stradivarius 1719"(probably a copy or something I dunno it's cheap anyhow and supposedly from 19th century) or just buy a new one from stagg or whatever? looking around the $300 price range.
I'd rather not repair the case because the way it looks like it was put together looks lazy... The screws for the case came loose every time I screwed them back. I had to just use a friends case that they said they were going to throw out from an old violin of theirs that broke.

@lowebranham100 - You must be tuning it too high. Maybe you were tuning it to the right tone but an octave too high. I could help you if we connect via Skype someday while you are tuning. Begin by posting this on my forum. fiddlerman. com/forum
@1stfiddlerman - Hey, do you have a link to direct me to where I can buy this $99 violin? I tried searching it on the Cecilio site but the cheapest violin costs more than $100. Moreover, is this violin in full size 4/4?
@1stfiddlerman - It is "Cecilio Rosewood Violin CVN-200" right? The violin you featured in this video is black. Are you selling the black one as well? Is it still 99 dollars?
Furthermore, no shipping fee for everywhere in the world except for Canada? Wow, it's unbelievably cheap.
And if I pay the "Flat Shipping Rate", does it mean that I get a safer shipping or a faster shipping?
I'm really glad you made this video. I play violin right now in my school's orchestra (am currently wearing the hoodie:D) And I REALLY want this violin for my birthday. I think my parents were a little worried since it's only $100 but this video really turned them around:)
@helrocks1002 - That is great. If you absolutely want the black one then this is the way to go. However, I think you may be even happier with the CVN-200 or 300. I've started selling them on fiddlershop. com
Your parents can call me for a special price on the CVN300 since the CVN200 is out of stock. You'll find the number on FiddlerShop. com
@1stfiddlerman I was actually hoping for the purple one but I kinda wanted just a fun violin. I already have and EXTREMELY nice violin that I use in orchestra.
@helrocks1002 - I see. Just for fun I can understand. Perfect for outdoors or fun concerts, to play in a band. I could easily see myself getting one and sticking a pick-up on it for some gigs. :-)
Wow, this is a really great and in depth review. I really appreciate all the time and effort you put into the making of this video. You are very knowledgeable and I'm glad that I took the time to watch this. Lol, I'm inspired to go out and buy violin now! Namely, this one.
@TheLegendaryGamerD3 - I had to check it out to see what you were talking about. LOL
I got it. You see I sometimes make videos where I ramble for SOOOO long. I had to cut it. I think that this video was around 15 minutes when I was finished the first time. :-)
@avalonmist101 - Yes. Fiddlerman. com is giving away more violins though. Keep posted on that site for future give-aways. Get active on the forum too.
@1stfiddlerman I bought one of those violin's. So far I am very impressed for a beginner violin. I am just learning to play so it was in my budget to get started.
I baught one from ebay for 50 dollars and I ahve to say I feel like a I got a decent fiddle. It did not come with all the accessories, only the bow and case but I love it.
@Karl88ful I have one of these violins too. I bought it before I saw this review so its very reassuring to see this video. I think its great to start with and is a good violin. No beginner is going to go out and drop a grand on an instrument right away. Get off your high horse.
@ilifarina - If I were you, I would contact someone from the MPO and ask were you can try out several instruments. I know some people there that I can ask. The problem with buying an instrument from the US is that if there is a problem in any way it would cost too much to return it. :-( We can have a discussion about it on my forum on fiddlerman. com
@1stfiddlerman thanks for replying me :) my teacher is from mpyo though, she's trying to make me buy all the really expensive ones which i am buying on my own pocket money :( i was really quite interested in the cecilio ones though. by the way, i am on fiddlerman . com forum :)
@ilifarina - I see. The only reason I suggest this is because you can't really regret your purchase and send it back without it costing for two way shipping. At this moment the CVN200 is out of stock from the distributer in California. The CVN300 is in stock and I can get it to you via Fiddlershop. com
However, you must add international shipping which I have a link to. We'll talk about it on the forum since I can't even put links up here.
I got a violin from kkkmusic but the case was real cheap n everything started tearing n ripping in about a month n the violin that i ordered there the seem opened at the bottom :/
@skaterdude15awful - Which one did you get? I agree that the case is cheap. Violins are glued together using hide glue. The main purpose of this glue is that it can come apart for repairs without the danger of damage if the repair is properly done. This is usually not a problem but if the violin is in the wrong environment, or resting of the hand in a certain spot it can start opening. Did you call Cecilio music? They might exchange it.
@1stfiddlerman i ordered it somewhere around march 2011 and the seam began to open during December , i don't think they will still exchange it but im gonna take it to the shop to see what they could do but the violin i got was cecelio blue ebony fitted violin. it sounds pretty good but gets untuned alot.
@skaterdude15awful - When you say it get's untuned do you mean that the pegs slip? If so, pull the pegs out and put some chalk on the ones that slip. Also make sure that you are pushing them in enough. My violin is a $20,000 Swedish hand made instrument and it comes unglued every once in a while too. :-( Maybe you can learn how to do that yourself through the internet and buy a few clamps. It's not a big deal. You can get a nice case from fiddlershop. com :-)
@1stfiddlerman no by untuned i mean like it gets really out of tune but the peg doesnt slip at all.ill try to learn to do it myself . although i have 3 violin my best one was $3000 which is really i had no problems with it the only one i had problem with was the blue one. ill check out the shop :) thanks alot :)
@skaterdude15awful - Sorry to hear about it. If your other violins have never come unglued it is probably not a climate thing as I suspected. Unless you had it outdoors in the heat or something. The blue color could be a culprit :-(
The steel strings that come with the cecilio are pretty cheap too. That could be an issue with intonation.
I've tried moving the bridge around and even putting a thinker bridge on that came with it. It may even be cheap strings. I don't know. Also one of the pegs must have expanded since the string hole was all the way over where you could not push the peg in any further. But I made it work. The one music store where I live would not replace the pegs and tried to refer me to a repair man. For a 70$ dollar violin? Yeah right.
I will look at kkmusic store and see what the difference is.
Thank you for the advice. I will try better strings that may help. This local store has exorbitant prices and doesn't carry the most basic things IMO. I have a feeling that better strings will help. They are steel and the feel very tight. They are a difficult to tune. I will let you know later.
I wish you could look at it also. But that is kind of impossible over the internet. Yes it is a Cecilin violin and I bought it on ebay. It was a christmas present so I didn't even think about trying to tune it in time to return it. It's not a horrible instrument it's just that I can not get that G string tuned no matter what I try. I'm not trying to get some one to move the sound post since the repair prices are exorbitant around here.
@nekkoice -- Just a couple simple tips. Make sure the string is seated in the fine-tuner saddle and not offset to one side. Other than that, I'd suggest getting a decent set of strings. Replacing those should probably be the FIRST thing one might want to do to help get the most out of these el-cheapo Chinese violins. It sounds like your G string just may be defective, gotta expect some poor quality control with bargain strings. Tho decent strings on e-bay should still be a bargain. Good Luck!
I don't even know how I surfed my way here- but I've been to your site, and watched your reviews. I've always loved the violin, but never had time. Purchasing these are cheaper than renting was 5-10yrs ago. I'm gonna give it a shot, with your website as a guide, Fiddlerman. At best I learn something new and gain some neuroplasticity, at worst I got a cool piece of functional art for the wall. The woman who walks in, picks it up & plays it, gets a marriage proposal :) Thanks for all you've shared!
I bought my son the same exact thing only on ebay, his was a 1/2 size and he is 9 so I didn't want to buy and expensive violin. This kid is a clutz. But I was not impressed with his. The G string was complete crap and I could not tune the thing for the life of me. But you get what you pay for I guess. His came with pretty much the same stuff but it was less than 100 $. Probably cause it's a 1/2 size. His was black also :)
Thinking of this from a business perspective, I think it's just too cheap. I wonder why, or how, you could make a profit on this and offer free shipping for onlu $99. I almost want to buy one on a lark, just to examine it. Thanks Fiddlerman
@14worldfilm - I don't sell these nor do I make a profit. I just reviewed it because so many members asked me where they could find a cheap instrument to begin to learn and whether or not these instruments could really be played.
Yes, professionals like you and me can manipulate the bow and finesse it to play right however, a beginner can barely keep the bow straight across the strings and fights it all the way to the end of the song. Put some Tonicas on it, then it'll be playable for a beginner. And forget learning spiccato with that bow, need a $100 carbon fiber bow at least for that lesson!
thank you SO MUCH for this video! I ordered this identical violin (companty, website and all) for around 70$. I should have it around mid-day tomorrow, so hopefully I have as much success as you had here.
@timmyman1997 - Those extras are not worth $50 more. The tuner is cheap and you can get a free one on your smart phone. The extra stuff is not worth much. You still got a case, bow and rosin, right?
@12potatoes - It sounded better and played better. Then again, every purchase is different. Violins are made of wood and in this case partially hand made. Each and every instrument will be slightly different and sound different as well.
You won't go wrong regardless of which you choose.
Hey, I bought a bow made in CHINA, from K&K & it is an incredibly nice bow for $35. Blew me away. ALL THE PROCUCT sold by K&K comes from China - and some of it is ok. It's hit & miss.
@OfficialPKW9 - I know about all three violas but not the cello. All three viola's are fantastic for the money. I use them for demo's and you can see them if you visit Violaman. com
If the cello is as good, you can't go wrong. Good luck
@melvinadrian123 - You can get it at kkmusicstore. com. However I suggest you get the CVN200 unless you are interested in a black fiddle. It's a great fiddle but the CVN-200 is even better for the money. I had tested the black one first.
May i win it pretty pretty please with sprinkles on top!! I've done everything you said.. I follow you on facebook, posted on facebook about you, registered on your website.. and i highly admire you skills, you've helped me the most in my vibrato and i am highly grateful that your here sir :)
@YukiYumeDoki - For the money I recommend the CVN-200. Same price but better look and sound. I think they are great instruments for the money but I tested this one before the CVN200.
This is extremely interesting. I wish you were "celloman" so you could give a review of their cellos. Cecilio instruments are routinely trashed on music forums, but here you are playing one right out of the box and it does appear to be more than functional.
The violin is good for a beginner, this is my first violin and i got it for Christmas, a good violin and the bows that come along with it, the bows do well. The only problem is the strings it comes with. The strings do not have that great of a sound, the A and E strings are very scratchy and hard to tune. @1stfiddlerman I bought one of those violin's. So far I am very impressed for a beginner violin. I am just learning to play so it was in my budget to get started.

I baught one from ebay for 50 dollars and I ahve to say I feel like a I got a decent fiddle. It did not come with all the accessories, only the bow and case but I love it.
bulson08 1 month ago
@bulson08 If it costs 50 dollars you didn't get a decent violin... people need to realize, when it comes to violins, "You Get What You Pay For"
Karl88ful 1 month ago
@Karl88ful I have one of these violins too. I bought it before I saw this review so its very reassuring to see this video. I think its great to start with and is a good violin. No beginner is going to go out and drop a grand on an instrument right away. Get off your high horse.
uncleiroh1989 1 month ago
I have this exact violin... the case and things break down after a while...
combativeuser 1 month ago
@combativeuser - The case and accessories look nice when they are new but appear to be cheap. How is your violin doing now?
1stfiddlerman 1 month ago
I'm a intermediate violinist. Would you recommend me this violin or the CVN-200/CVN-300? I need your opinion on this. Btw, I'm from Malaysia.
ilifarina 1 month ago
@ilifarina - If I were you, I would contact someone from the MPO and ask were you can try out several instruments. I know some people there that I can ask. The problem with buying an instrument from the US is that if there is a problem in any way it would cost too much to return it. :-( We can have a discussion about it on my forum on fiddlerman. com
1stfiddlerman 1 month ago
@1stfiddlerman thanks for replying me :) my teacher is from mpyo though, she's trying to make me buy all the really expensive ones which i am buying on my own pocket money :( i was really quite interested in the cecilio ones though. by the way, i am on fiddlerman . com forum :)
ilifarina 1 month ago
@ilifarina - I see. The only reason I suggest this is because you can't really regret your purchase and send it back without it costing for two way shipping. At this moment the CVN200 is out of stock from the distributer in California. The CVN300 is in stock and I can get it to you via Fiddlershop. com
However, you must add international shipping which I have a link to. We'll talk about it on the forum since I can't even put links up here.

I got a violin from kkkmusic but the case was real cheap n everything started tearing n ripping in about a month n the violin that i ordered there the seem opened at the bottom :/
skaterdude15awful 1 month ago
@skaterdude15awful - Which one did you get? I agree that the case is cheap. Violins are glued together using hide glue. The main purpose of this glue is that it can come apart for repairs without the danger of damage if the repair is properly done. This is usually not a problem but if the violin is in the wrong environment, or resting of the hand in a certain spot it can start opening. Did you call Cecilio music? They might exchange it.
1stfiddlerman 1 month ago
@1stfiddlerman i ordered it somewhere around march 2011 and the seam began to open during December , i don't think they will still exchange it but im gonna take it to the shop to see what they could do but the violin i got was cecelio blue ebony fitted violin. it sounds pretty good but gets untuned alot.
skaterdude15awful 1 month ago
@skaterdude15awful - When you say it get's untuned do you mean that the pegs slip? If so, pull the pegs out and put some chalk on the ones that slip. Also make sure that you are pushing them in enough. My violin is a $20,000 Swedish hand made instrument and it comes unglued every once in a while too. :-( Maybe you can learn how to do that yourself through the internet and buy a few clamps. It's not a big deal. You can get a nice case from fiddlershop. com :-)
1stfiddlerman 1 month ago
@1stfiddlerman no by untuned i mean like it gets really out of tune but the peg doesnt slip at all.ill try to learn to do it myself . although i have 3 violin my best one was $3000 which is really i had no problems with it the only one i had problem with was the blue one. ill check out the shop :) thanks alot :)
skaterdude15awful 1 month ago
@skaterdude15awful - Sorry to hear about it. If your other violins have never come unglued it is probably not a climate thing as I suspected. Unless you had it outdoors in the heat or something. The blue color could be a culprit :-(
The steel strings that come with the cecilio are pretty cheap too. That could be an issue with intonation.

YiuTeub 2 months ago 2
@VEHEMENTBLACK - Did they change the description? Who did you buy it from? I suggest you call whomever it was.
1stfiddlerman 2 months ago
I've tried moving the bridge around and even putting a thinker bridge on that came with it. It may even be cheap strings. I don't know. Also one of the pegs must have expanded since the string hole was all the way over where you could not push the peg in any further. But I made it work. The one music store where I live would not replace the pegs and tried to refer me to a repair man. For a 70$ dollar violin? Yeah right.
I will look at kkmusic store and see what the difference is.
nekkoice 2 months ago
@nekkoice - Exactly. They want more to do those little things than you paid for the violin. I'm sorry to hear it. But can you return it?
1stfiddlerman 2 months ago
@1stfiddlerman
Thank you for the advice. I will try better strings that may help. This local store has exorbitant prices and doesn't carry the most basic things IMO. I have a feeling that better strings will help. They are steel and the feel very tight. They are a difficult to tune. I will let you know later.
nekkoice 2 months ago
@nekkoice - good luck. I guess you can carefully sand that one peg before putting on the new strings. I don't know how or how much though.
1stfiddlerman 2 months ago
@1stfiddlerman
I'm not trying to get some one to move the sound post since the repair prices are exorbitant around here.
nekkoice 2 months ago

I kind of all ways wanted to learn myself. The only thing is that I know it takes a lot of work an cant read music but, rather rythmes
paine131 2 months ago
I bought my son the same exact thing only on ebay, his was a 1/2 size and he is 9 so I didn't want to buy and expensive violin. This kid is a clutz. But I was not impressed with his. The G string was complete crap and I could not tune the thing for the life of me. But you get what you pay for I guess. His came with pretty much the same stuff but it was less than 100 $. Probably cause it's a 1/2 size. His was black also :)
nekkoice 2 months ago
@nekkoice - I wish that I could look at it for you. I don't benefit from this at all except I was able to give this violin away on my site.
However, is it a Cecilio violin? Can you return it? The accept returns at kkmusicstore. com Where did you get it?
1stfiddlerman 2 months ago

Thinking of this from a business perspective, I think it's just too cheap. I wonder why, or how, you could make a profit on this and offer free shipping for onlu $99. I almost want to buy one on a lark, just to examine it. Thanks Fiddlerman
14worldfilm 2 months ago
@14worldfilm - I don't sell these nor do I make a profit. I just reviewed it because so many members asked me where they could find a cheap instrument to begin to learn and whether or not these instruments could really be played.

violaman. com
1stfiddlerman 2 months ago
Yes, professionals like you and me can manipulate the bow and finesse it to play right however, a beginner can barely keep the bow straight across the strings and fights it all the way to the end of the song. Put some Tonicas on it, then it'll be playable for a beginner. And forget learning spiccato with that bow, need a $100 carbon fiber bow at least for that lesson!

@1stfiddlerman Its playable, i just suck at tuning, it also didnt come with tuner or extras, posted comment before watching :P
timmyman1997 2 months ago
@timmyman1997 - Those extras are not worth $50 more. The tuner is cheap and you can get a free one on your smart phone. The extra stuff is not worth much. You still got a case, bow and rosin, right?
1stfiddlerman 2 months ago
@1stfiddlerman yep, great christmas present
timmyman1997 2 months ago
does it sound better or what?
12potatoes 2 months ago
@12potatoes - It sounded better and played better. Then again, every purchase is different. Violins are made of wood and in this case partially hand made. Each and every instrument will be slightly different and sound different as well.
You won't go wrong regardless of which you choose.
1stfiddlerman 2 months ago
where did it come from? I want to buy one.

This is extremely interesting. I wish you were "celloman" so you could give a review of their cellos. Cecilio instruments are routinely trashed on music forums, but here you are playing one right out of the box and it does appear to be more than functional.
