  • The tuning is C# G# C# F# A# D#

  • i came

  • Absolutely mindblowingly amazing. This is completely, I don't even know. Just so incredible. You are one of my new favorite musicians. Beautiful.

  • What tuning is this?

  • @angelo1593 it's standart tuning, E A D G B e... the tabs are on his tumblr page!

  • @laserluddite Well, in the video the tuning is something close to C or C#. I just sort of tune this guitar to whatever feels good. I rarely use this guitar when playing with other melodic instruments so it doesn't matter what key it's in. I wrote EADGBE on the tab because it can be played in that key and most people would probably do that.

  • Damn. That's a nice ass guitar.

  • Some link for download this song?

  • Come to think of it, he looks like the kind of guy who would tell you the meaning of life if you met him busking on a street corner and asked him politely.

  • Hey Carson, thanks for the Watchers tab, it's an awesome peice and loads of fun to play...that little fast connecting riff where you hammer and pick the notes to double them is screwing with my head, in a good way :D

Any chance of a rough tab of The Deadly Silver Light of Margaras? maybe just some of the sections?

    Much love and light.

  • Quite raw yet sohisticated at the same time. I dig.

  • Beautiful, brother! Thanks for making my day better

  • thats a sick guitar...i've never seen an acoustic that looks like a violin. anyone know who makes it>?

  • @TheDanification just a regular archtop dude. the holes are called f-holes. guitar makers rarely make archtops like these any more, so your best bet is go on ebay to get a second hand one or find one in a pawn shop.

  • @TheDanification It's not the same one, but Godin makes one. Check out their 5th Avenue Kingpin model. You can get them as an acoustic or with one or two P90's. Cool guitar and has gotten pretty good reviews.

  • huibòil

  • i always get amazed that this song is 8 minutes long. it goes by so quickly, like my perception of time speeds up.

  • this was the best song ever, first time i saw it i was with this girl and we all smoked, she got really high and my friend put this on, she was so locked into what he was playing by the end of it she said her heart was beating and she was shaking, THAT is some powerful music, i dont think ill ever forget seeing that, i was like.. wow, i didnt even know music could do that

  • @dvzqz87

    Probably the weed, dawg.

  • @mman19 no she said the song made her shake, like it hit her so intensely she shook, she was really fucked up she had all these close friends that died from drug overdoses when she was growing up and her family treated her so fucked up, she response like really intensely to dark things and this song has a really intense dark quality to it, i was like.. oh my god, when she was shaking, i thought the song was good but like she felt it so much deeper, kind of makes you wish you were fucked up lol

  • @dvzqz87 definitely the weed.

  • @psychedelicboat either that or she's that kind of insufferable, histrionic person that acts bizzarely for attention. its difficult to describe, but everyone knows at least one person like that.

  • It's fucking unbelievable how he picks every single note rather than finger picking this is really nice also, did not expect this type of thing after seeing the equally amazing "face tat" recording.

  • that is a fucking gorgeous guitar. it looks like a violin. what is it?

  • @phadedlife a kay archtop from the fifties

  • Wow. Just... Wow.

  • What kind of guitar is that? Looks like it's been pieced together. Sounds amazing.

  • @clovismcpony a kay archtop

  • I was stunned / stoned for 8:07 minutes....

  • close your eyes and listen and sink deep

  • I think a few people were so baked that they missed the like button. Its possible i know i had teary eyes after watching this

  • they droped acid and gave him a guitar and he did this.

  • man, I watch this video every single day

  • Comment removed

  • @nicobike me too!!!

  • bonjour dude, what's the tuning for this? sounds dark

  • @garrybaboon I think it's C#

  • hypnotic

  • So good it makes no fucking sense.

  • didn't know che guevara plays guitar

  • Is it from Bee Sides album?

  • @diamondelux yess

  • they need carson mcwhirter to do a solo session at jools holland or something, he needs more attention than Sac and a bunch of internet kids elsewhere that have heard of him.

  • anyone know what guitar he's using in this video?

  • I remember watching this video when it had under 700 views. I am happy to see the views go up weekly. He deserves the attention. It's not about speed or skill, it's about playing whats on the inside, whether it be simple or complex. Carson demonstrates that beautiful here.

  • fucking sickk!!

  • someone tab it ajajaj

  • What is that guitar!? It's UHHMAZING!

  • Ridiculous crosspicking.

  • give me that guitar.

  • Who is the faggot who disliked this? Jeez. I'd hate to be that guy.

  • the rrrrring... i must have it

  • one fucking god!!!! awesome!!!

  • stunning. Keep it acoustic!

  • Math rock + folk = this awesomeness?!

  • this is f*$#king very good

  • Jesus has come back to Terrorizetheshit out of us..

  • nice video, good rythm to it. my name is Nic McWhirter by the way

  • ...sorry, no mp3's of the songs from the videos yet, but Sean (Terror Eyes) and I made a new video that you can check out on the "TERROREYESdotTV" page or on vimeo.

  • one word......epic.

  • yea, i agree with the person below....my new favorite guitarist.

  • i need an mp3 of this help me out

  • Cari was right. :))

  • Dude i think this might be my new favorite guitarist. Does this song have a name?

  • @TheMagnathorax "Watchers"

  • awesome, is it just me or does it sound like something soad would make

  • Buonissimo

  • Bravo!!!

distiling a lot of emotion to me

    thanks

  • this is beautiful.

  • stunning

  • I can't help but to watch this everytime I'm bored.

  • Is that ring the source of your power?

  • carson, do u use finger pick style also ? (i dont know if that`s the right expression, i mean not using a pick, just your fingers), if you do, i would be nice to see you play something like that

  • Carson, any chance you'll upload the tabs again in your tumblr site?

    Cheers

  • ok, those tabs should work now, it was just a matter of fixing the html code.

  • @airplanehuh gimme ...

  • Hi there Carson, hey, i don't want to sound demandingor anything, but the tabs on yout tumblr site don't seem to work...

Is there any chance you'll upload them again?

    Greetings!

  • I'm totally mezmerized

  • I've made two new sites. One for listening/buying my music carsonmcwhirterDOTbandcampDOTcom

the other for updates, show dates, tabs, etc. carsonmcwhirterDOTtumblrDOTcom

  • sorry for the cryptic way of writing the sites out...it wouldn't let me post these here any other way. i'm pretty sure you'll get the idea though.

  • you live in portland, right?

  • Damn man, I just read on an interview on your Tumblr page that you haven't seen a cent for your work on 'There's no 666...' and that sucks dude. Kinda makes me a bit pissed I bought a copy...but I've been on your bandcamp page and I'm getting paid soon, I'll definitely be downloading your works. Just please tell me you at least get some of the money I'll be paying??

Oh, and also the guitar tabs on your page don't work properly, tho I'm sure that's been brought to your attention by now. =3

  • 8000+ views, good on ya m8 ;)

And if there's any site's that host your tab of this song I'd love to get a link, I think I can learn a lot from it.

  • i miss your old band "Ent" more than anything in the world. I still listen to your guys' Ep everyday. Literally everyday. It is a huge inspiration for me for what I want for my music: catchy melodies, great rhythms, harmony, and tons of tapping.

  • amazing.

  • i am totally stoked to hear that you are working more with zach hill. i saw a vid of you guys jamming. incredible man, i cant wait

  • the horrible thing is that in the related videos section of this video, there is a video of lil wayne "playing" guitar. said video has over 400,000 views, while this beautiful composition has a mere 7000. it's a shame that a real musician such as yourself isn't more well known. anyways, fantastic playing and these videos are fantastic.

  • @madmax892006 ha, well 7000+ views seems just fine to me. that's more times than i've played the song, ha. i don't even know 7000 people. if all of those views gave me one dollar i could survive for an entire year without having to work.

  • well put, i admire the way you think. i did some searching online and i was wondering if theres any bands you've played guitar in. all i could find was bass, and i was curious if you have any recorded material out there

  • @madmax892006 I played guitar in a band called Ent days ago. It was my first real band. I also played guitar on a double record that Hill and I did called Toughguy Fantasy/ Arctic Boyz on Frenetic Records. It's an early indication of what was to come afterward perhaps.

I'm slowly working on recording now. Slowly.

  • @madmax892006 i disagree, in my opion there is no advantage (hehe) in being well known. If you compare this with the lil Wayne video you will see the he has more hit's but 3/4 voted for dislike. This one has almost a 100% like (2 dislikes, probably due to miss clicks... ). I guess my point is it should be hard to find good music.

  • @ThaOrg That makes no sense. Yeah, Carson's fan base appreciates him more. But why not share great music with the world? Elitist talk is worthless.

  • @madmax892006 im gonna watch that lil wayne video just for the hell of it.

  • @madmax892006 i don't think guys like this give a shit whether little wayne is getting 400,000 views on youtube

  • @madmax892006 Lil wayne fucked your bitch.

  • @easytoremember246 nah he just sucks at guitar.

  • @madmax892006 U maaaad.

  • Comment removed

  • @madmax892006 Nobody would argue that Lil Wayne is vastly more popular by doing what he does best. It is no surprise his video has more views, but views aren't the only number worth counting. 99% of the people who came across this video liked it. Contrasting that to the 28% rating for Lil Wayne, I don't find anything horrible about it.

  • Awesome ! Your guitar playing is incredible (from nowhere) could you give the tab once again please, to understand better the way you ride your guitar ! Thx

  • the slide part on carson`s tab is 100% accurate...

"I don't define and ending point of the slides"

i think that`s the trick to get it

i was amazed how simple it really is.. when i saw it in the video i thought i could never play that... now what it seems impossible is the "tap/pick" thing of the other song...

  • set up a paypal account. I will give you money.

  • Carson, dude, you need to explain the final slide part better, pleaaaase :D!!!

  • oh ha, I think I tabbed out the way I play it now and it's more abbreviated in the video. Just learn it how it is in the video and then mess around with sliding from the notes I marked in the tab. I don't define and ending point of the slides because I lift my finger off the string before the slide stops. I like the slides quick and vague.

If anyone has an idea of how I can permanently post the tabs somewhere I would do that. I suppose I could sign up for a file sharing account.

  • how can i pay you for more of this?

  • @blmftw you assume hes poor cause he is a cowboy superhero?

  • i assume he is rich in spirit and would like to buy an album of this.

  • im sure, i wasn't serious. And im sure he has a cd if he jams with zach hill.

  • sorry didnt see your reply lol. I thought you were being serious.

  • you assume that musicians dont need money?

  • I can't get the tab to work - i've changed the comma to a full stop, but when i put it in the browser it says "The key you provided for file download was invalid". Can anyone help? Thanks very much.

  • ive been playing this song for some weeks now (thanks to carson`s tab), its so addictive, you cant stop playing it, the song has that mix of simplicity and complexity that makes it sublime, the final slides part... well, there are no words for that...

i was wondering, do you have like a practice routine or you just play searching for your music, de you do excersises and that kind of thing...?

do you think about tonality when you compose? besides the dissonances you work with, are you aware of

  • carson, you are the coolest. your commitment is palpable

  • he just dives into astral pools, mind first, for inspiration

  • holy shit

  • loved the colours and the sounds in this video, amazing guitar playing, what is your inspiration and what is your music usually based upon. it's very beautiful. i also liked the camera work

  • Just jammin' out mann..

  • 110% amazing

  • wow, thank you so much.

  • tabs?

  • this is the best thing ive seen in a while.

  • well, i don't really believe in music genres, I used math-rock as some kind of reference really, I'm sure bands tagged as math-rock don't really care about that either.

I've listened to Rachmaninoff, I guess i'll have to check out Art Tatum and Cecil Taylor and Philipp Glass. Most of the artists you name are pianists, how do you take their influences and apply them on your guitar?

Cheers and sorry for all the questions, it's just great to be talk with a musicn.(And excuse my unnacurate english)

  • Pianists use rhythm and melody same as other instruments but I really enjoy the sound. I can become influenced through any instrument but its more a matter of the player that influences me. I do enjoy guitarists too: Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, Mick Barr, Thomas Bonvalet, the guitarists of Captain Beefheart, John McLaughlin (specifically his playing with Shakti). I'm very influenced by nonwestern music. Gimbri players, south indian percussionists. I hope to someday play guitar like tablas.

  • what town/village/city/cave/ was this shot in?

    i love the scenery son!

also, when did you start and how many years have you been playing?

  • This was just shot on the front porch of the rad house that I live. It belongs to two of the coolest people I've ever met.

    Hmm, I don't know I've been playing since I was 12 or 13, something like that...so, 17 years.

  • Hey Carson, I'm really INTO your songs, can you please send me the link to the eletric guitar version of this? Thank you.

  • Sorry, I don't really know which link you're referring to. It shouldn't be too hard to find my myspace profile if that's what you mean.

  • @doppelganger013 Cram it dick nose

  • Carson, the tab's great, at least so far, I haven't even learned half of it yet, but I've incorporated lots of stuff from your videos in this channel, specially this song. Such a pity you didn't post the connecting runs though, i'm not asking you to tab them, but could you at least

  • Also, how did you develop you style on the electric guitar? It really sounds math-rockyish, but still unique and wonderful.

  • Well, although at one time I was interested in "math rock," and have an ear for such things, there are also some very unemotional aspects to focusing solely on trying to make music that is mathy. My goal is never to make things "more complicated," as if I had something to prove. Although I do have a desire to constantly get better at guitar. There are so many techniques and specific "feels" that I'm not good at, so I'll write songs that help me get good at those things.

  • haha. the quotations seem funny to me here...but I'm quoting, from general experience, what I've heard other people talk about in regards to music.

  • The most important thing to me is the feeling of a song. It's why I choose to listen to Rachmaninoff more than math bands. Plus, he plays much more complicated phrases than what I've heard from rock bands. Art Tatum or Cecil Taylor are also great. I listen to a lot of piano music. At one time, when I was most interested in mathy music I was inspired by Phillip Glass. I still love polyrhythmic music, but Glass stopped interesting me. I caught on to African music. Sufi music. Gnawa.

  • oh I did post them. they are the same every time. just repeat the first one I tabbed unless I noted otherwise. I was just trying to keep it shorter.

  • it would be great to watch you play something on piano too, and i know you play stick or warr guitar... that would be interesting too...

your mystique is safe here.. we won`t tell (?)

  • dude are you really carson mcwhirter?

Oh god, I love you man!

  • ive posted what ive been able to tab here:

    mediafire,com/?j0xmnyy2jmn

it has some notes in spanish, sorry about that, also, please, can you tab what you play in that video with zach hill from terroreyes in electric guitar, or at least explain what are you doing, tunning chords, etc?

  • This is what I would tab for it. Play it in any key. Whatever works with your guitar. I hope someone makes a video of a cover of this. I'm only tabbing this because I'm kind of curious what other people will do with it. Also I tabbed only one version of this song. I really play it quite different every time I play it and I have many new parts now. Mess around with it.

    mediafire,com/?z5kmz5d1izz

  • Thanks a lot dude, i REALLY hope you're actually carson cause we would love to talk more bout music with you

    cheers!

  • Yeah, you know I run the risk of ruining the mystique and mystery of my "professional musician" image (or the potential to have such an image) if I talk too much...but that's never really been my deal anyway, so chat away. Part of my reasons for playing music has always been to improve the types of interactions I have with people, at least in regards to performing or public presentations.

  • Hmm, you mentioned Gimbri up there.

    Any particular group?

  • I don't really know any groups by name. I usually just search for Gnawa (Gnoua) Sufi music and a good majority of it uses the GImbri as a lead instrument. Although if you were to search Gimbri you would find that the instrument is used in more than just Gnawa.

  • Oh, hmm thanks for the info bud.

Dude, i'm just lovin this scenery,

    what city do you reside?

  • Oh man, the link has been deleted or removed, could you please please please hook me up with them tabs if you still have em??

    I'd immensely appreciate it :D

  • oh, and the guitar is an old Kay from the late 20's. The tuning is sort of subjective and specific to the guitar and situation usually. I just sort of tune the strings to whatever feels good to me, and that changes often. Its usually between C and D. The intervals are the same as standard guitar tuning. That guitar needs constant intonating and there are lots of tuning compromises. I have another version of this song that I play on electric in standard tuning, it has some different parts.

  • hey guys i was thinking about tabbing this song out for all of you. I've read these posts a couple of times and after I made the two newer videos I thought it would be cool to make tabs of all of them. If you guys have already gotten somewhere with it I can just make corrections and finish it up for you if you want to just post the file somewhere.

I wouldn't say I don't know a lick of theory, I just never use it, at least not in the normal sense.

  • where did this man come everything from his style of playing to the song itself is fucking amazing

  • agree with ardenthater!!!has right!!! only with heart will play like this!!!great song

  • mirikiedis and joewhittles I will appreciete any part of this song tabbed out :D

  • everyone wants the easy way, "give me the tab" im actually asking for some help, i got it almost all tabbed, the slide part in the end is difficult, i got the main idea thou

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • ive been trying to figure out this, i have some parts tabbed, i dont know much about theory, but it looks like its constructed around the altered scale (probably he doesnt even know/care/thought about this), i commented a few day ago but it seems no ones realy interested (at least other guitar players) thats a shame...

  • anyone can comment more on what is he doing, technically and musically speaking? i also think the guitar is tuned in C#, but i dont know all the strings (c# f# b e g# c# is this correct?)

  • Comment removed

  • I totally agree. I took Music Theory AP my senior year after playing guitar for 7 years - it was nonsense and I use none of it when writing or playing.

  • currently in the process of tabbing this bad boy out, ill post the results if i can be bothered to complete it

  • what tuning is he using?

  • nah, its just an acoustic guitar with f-holes rather than a soundhole in the middle. theyre quite common really, you can get them on the cheap.

  • yeah, but look at the binding on it, thats not normal..

  • @doodoohead37 its just a wierd guitar. go looking for some in thrift stores and the nooks and crannies of guitar shops, i will guarantee you will find something unique and bizzare among the strat copies or whatever

  • it's a classical guitar

  • I suffered to experience this greatness

    yikes.

  • man, i'm gonna work my ass off 'til I can play this.

  • wow

    that was gorgeous

  • Anybody recognize the tuning?

  • C# standard i think

  • Excellent. I love this video.

  • "classical" in the sense that you need to have an ear for what came before to understand what happens later. Whole different level of guitar playing. The guy definitely suffered to write the song.

Anyone know who makes the guitar and where I can snag a recording of this song?
