Also protoman's story in MMPU kind of retcons all of this, but hey its easy to just ignore powered up because it was kind of a poorly designed version of megaman 1 :(

Thats why Protoman was able to free Kalinka in 4, BTW. Protoman was still working for Wily at that point but realized how evil Wily was for kidnapping the girl to force Cossack to work for him that he left Wily after releasing the hostage. 3 and 4 sort of form a decent little arc that gets deluded by the 5th and 6ths games.

Wily was tricking people into believing he was reformed, which is why none of the doors feature a W symbol in the master bot stages.

All these little things that arent really in the game and are just in the manual kind of makes you wonder if they wanted to create an intro for 3 and just ran out of time making it.

The Break Man thing makes sense once you realize that it was just to fool light, not megaman, and that protoman WAS working under wily influence in 3. Just not necessarily 'for' evil.

The thing about "Break Man" is....its a multistep thing.

1) He is working for Wily because he fixed his faulty energy core and gave him battle gear. this is from the JP Manual for 3. Protoman dislikes Dr. Light for trying to alter his personality.

2) The Breakman Disguise is to fool Dr Light. The stage select screen is Light's computer, so he wears a mask and fake name so Light doesn't recognize him. Protoman may not have known that Wily would use the battle's distraction to steal Gamma.

I want to argue that Magnet Man has the best music in the game.

I don't think that Rush's name was ever explained, but I do believe Rush is named after the adrenaline rush feeling you get when you dance to music.
