He hardly ever hits this shot, only when he has to. I think even Roddick has a better slice than Djokovic but obviously Djokovic's topspin backhand more than makes up for that.
It's a full extreme western grip slice. Not an easy thing to master. I would look into Gasquet's slice's more since they hold the same grip. But even as good as Gasquet's one handed backhand, his slice is also only sub par due to the gripping.
@lgfoxxxlfg Djokovic and Federer make a technical error with their slice backhands , as with a slice backhand your arms and shoulders should make a perfectly straight line at the end of the shot (neither does this, but hewitt does. naturally given their talent they can get away with it, eg. Federer's forehand often finishes below his shoulder rather than over it, technically incorrect, but he can get away with this because he is able to whip his wrist upwards enough to generate sufficient spin)
@CleckleysProof no wonder he is ranked 2nd in the world. this is not a hard return. this is a dropshot. federer makes moves he does not think about. only on accuracy though
@aznboi1398 lol, what a fucking shit philosophy. In all honestly, it's a pretty bad technique which is why he rarely uses his slice in games. Watch federer's slice.......his is perfect. Just because you can't beat a pro tennis player, it doesn't mean that you don't know the correct technique
@free533 from hearing the vulgar language in your comment i can assume you were never loved in life and that you like to critisize or bully others to make yourself feel better. If i suck at soccer but tell Cristiano Ronaldo to get better at striking from distances, how am i in a position to critisize someone that's better then me?
@aznboi1398 lol, no that's not it at all, it's just that you're such a dumbass. I never said that you could give him advice on how to become a better player, i just said that you can critisize someone on their technique and give your opinion
TheMaxik. It looks more like backspin to me!

It's a dropshot you idiots!

By Novak's delayed reaction, this might appear to be a dropshot with a slice backhand takeaway, but this is Novak's slice backhand stroke.

im guessing he doesnt get too much pace on it because there's alot of wrist in that shot.

I think its a drop shot.

It's not
mysteriekiller 3 years ago
It is, you can tell. Its looping too much, and hes disguising it really well by using his forehand grip.
monthejoe 3 years ago
Can be a floating slice. Federer does it often. Quite hard to return well. The ball has no pace, lands deep and you have to dig it.
But again, Federer is a very special player.

novak need´s to refine that technique..he doesn´t slice very much though..

@aznboi1398 And am I the standard by which millionaire, professional tennis players should be judged?
CleckleysProof 1 year ago
@CleckleysProof no you are not so stfu fag. Novak will be better then you so you cann't say his slice sucks when he probably has a better slice.
My philosophy is if you are worse then that person, then you can not criticize them
