  • i picture myself...alone...in a dim lighted room...a cigarette lit...a snowy day outside...a couch..and im sitting on it..peacfully...the fire slowly burning in the chimeny...nature is all around you....and all you can do is sit..and listen to this beautiful, up lifting, gorgeous piece of ART..

  • truly beautiful honor to the originator of this song ..... m a s t e r f u l ..

  • Nope! First time for that to happen with me Tanya! Thanx!!!

  • This is a very moving peice of music, an extraordinary contribution from michael manring.....the thing that gets me the most is the sentiment behind the song....why it was written...if its true - Will Ackerman wrote this about his mother who commited suicide.....when i read this i found it very very hard to listen to the peice again......Really Phenomenal!XX

  • anyone know the name of the fretless bass guitar?

  • Michael Manring

  • no. not the player. the bass?

  • It's a Zon bass, he's famous for using them in a very creative way. He also uses piccolo strings in some other videos to get even more intresting sounds.

  • It's called the Hyperbass created by Michael Manring and Zon Guitars.

  • @LiehTzu Actually that is a Sonus model bass with an extended cut away, and d-tuners. The Hyper Bass has a completely different body style and Michael always has piccolo strings on it. The Hyperbass is the yellow one that he carries around with him. He usually has three basses with him. The two fretless d-tuner basses, and a headless fretted bass (just incase he needs to play a fretted bass for some reason)

  • @GMoneyBassist145 Thanks for clearing that up. I got confused. I thought the red one was a Hyperbass too.

    Have a great day.

  • @Semimentalman2 The first model of that bass comes in yellow.

  • @Semimentalman2 ? manring normally plays Zon. you'd have to research more to figure out what model though. still looks like a Zon

  • beautiful...I also love the fact that you are playing it in the slow tempo...the song sounds even more beautiful when played slow :)

  • i really like that bass

  • ZON bass I believe- I saw him at a small music store promoting them. There were less than twenty people there. Manring is unreal good.

  • Simply awesome.

  • This peice is genius as it is so simple and beautiful. The genius is in the unique tuning which I've not come across before.

  • I am speechless.

  • if i could cry i'd do it, unfortunately a mass dehidration that i sufered when i was 17 made my body to not produce water ever again so if you dont post this to another 10 videos like this i'll hunt you down and eat your all the water from your refrigerator lololololol just kidding ya guys awesome tune.............

  • I've played guitar for 25 years and when I heard this piece I balled like a baby. The most beautiful acoustic piece I have ever heard. This music utterly pierced my heart.

  • @bravehearts66 "This music utterly pierced my heart'.

As it did mine. One most crisp, emotionally stirring pieces ever written for an acoustic guitar. If a guitar cried, this is how it sounds.

  • Beautiful. I don't usually view covers, but the playing and the emotion touched my heart. Thank you.

  • This literally brought tears to my eyes.

    Fantastic =]

  • this is the greatest song ever written by humans ever

  • Judging by the emotion on your face Adam, you could not have played this song with more heart or emotion. You indeed captured its escence. Felicitaciones.

  • Anybody know if this song is based on Sor's study in Bm?

  • absolutely amazing...thank you :)

  • Other than the original, this has to be one the best renditions ever. Hats off to you guys. Exemplary guitar playing. As always, Michael's bass lines makes you soar away. Pure poetic poignance.

  • @mackymaca Totally agree. This is the best I've heard, other than the original. You feel the ache, the tears, streaming from the strings.

I would have loved to have been there for that show!

Major kudos to both Adam & Mike.

  • *bows down*

    (to both of you guys)

Just watching the emotion make me cry a little. I had to watch a Hatebreed video to put me right again...

    FANTASTIC job guys!

  • This is beautiful.

  • What is that thing Michael holds in his right hand over the strings?

  • That is called an "eBow". It's an electromagnetic device that, when turned on, vibrates the string until taken away.

  • en e-bow

  • Why did i listeng this???its only makes me sad.;((

  • Beautiful playing! you've captured the emotional content wonderfully. Love it!

  • Does anybody know where I can get this song? It's so beautiful...

  • Yes, it is on Will Ackerman's record/CD entitled "A Windham Hill Retrospective". Adam does Will's guitar part due justice!

  • Thanx ngc457et! Definitely one of m y most proudest moments (and I'm glad you think that I did the tune justice).

    Means a lot!

    Thanx

    Adam

  • two great´s musician´s!!!

  • Anyone know what the base chord is the guitar's tuned to?

  • The guitar tuning for this tune is: low-to-hi

    C# A C# G# A E (capo 2nd)

  • Beautiful. Very nice and warm. I love it...

    PianoMelodies

  • Wonderful..

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • this is such a beautiful love story. Ican see him reach for her but never get to hold her to himself. This ballad heaves emotions through me that I can't help but embrace. Thanks so much for posting

  • ?

to me this song represents the fading of each and everyones innocence, the virgin spirits dies slowly as we grow older

  • how great that music speaks to each of us in our own language. interesting perspective!

  • I'm so glad to see Ackerman's videos finally showing up, now hopefully we'll see one of him playing "Bricklayer's Beautiful Daughter some day" which is also one of my favorites of him.

  • meraviglioso...sono senza parole...

  • This is one of my favorite pieces by Will. Very beautiful and makes everything seem better.

  • Brilliantly executed Adam, I mean that is a very sad yet spiritual song & you play it in such a way that sets a mood of peace... I'm very glad to see Will Ackerman's songs on YouTube, I've been searching for them & couldn't find them before but now I can find a few so thanks.

  • Crying! So beautiful!

  • this tune has always been a favorite

  • .. I cannot wait to hear Will Ackerman play this himself, this weekend, here in Hailey, Idaho... June 1 and 2... the master himself.

...this video is the closest I would bring to the real thing, but I have a very soft spot for any and all Will Ackerman friends, so ... know that this is beautiful, all the same..

    tah

  • Thank you Tanya. This is a very special piece for Will and it was an absolute honor and pleasure performing it with Michael Manring. Will's comments about this performance were just absolutely amazing. I charish his friendship and hope that I did the piece justice. Hope you had a great time at the show(s).

  • Thank you, Dakota! YESSSS!! You can, I am sure, relate to the amazing comments Will gave on the shows here in Sun Valley. Please send me your email as I would love to fill you in on a follow-up to it as it was a very great success. I would love to have you know about it and any future events here. Will is an amazing congretator and friend. Amazing. Thank you for writing back! =)

  • Aha! wow... and now, here we are, you and me now talking about you and him for a show? .. Have you ever done that?

  • nice to see a musician put so much heart and passion into playing the music

  • Thsi song is easy oto play and still so beautiful!

  • In a way, the atmosphere of the song reminds me of Moby. Nevertheless, beautiful. One of the most important things in music is knowing where your place is in each song and fragment. Manring knows it like no other.

  • Nice!

  • Beautifully performed.

  • michael's just hammering on and then turning the volume up to make a violin-sound. I do that live all the time, but nowhere near on the magnitude that Manring does.

  • he is using an eBow to do that

  • Wrong.

  • Michael is using an eBow on this tune.

  • wrong to say "wrong"....cause yes, he plays an Ebow!!!!!!!

  • Thanx everyone for your comments!

Michael and I have become good friends over the years and though this piece of music is the most beautiful piece of guitar work, to me, Michael just adds a whole other element that fits just perfect. Thanx Will for letting me perform this piece!

    Adam Werner

  • The 'clicks' we are hearing from the whitenoise ruin an otherwise otherworldly beautiful piece...

  • jaja I just read the other response... the ebow...

  • Does anyone know what Michael is using in his right hand to do that sound?... and once again... BEAUTIFULL SONG

  • beauty.... thats all I can say....

  • thanks a lot for the quick answer!

  • Michael sometimes uses the eBow a little too much.

eBows are impossible enough to control, and Mike has a song where he uses two of them at once. Dude is a God.

    ~Jimm

  • someone can tell me the name of the instrument or artefact that michael use in this video to make that strange sound with bass?

  • It's an eBow.

  • Simply beautiful.

  • would anyone possibly have this performance as a .mp3, or any other type of audio file.

  • Thanks for this beautiful music. I saw William Ackerman in concert several years ago but have been a fan for many more. I'm sure he would be pleased. Music of the Gods!

  • amazing
