i picture myself...alone...in a dim lighted room...a cigarette lit...a snowy day outside...a couch..and im sitting on it..peacfully...the fire slowly burning in the chimeny...nature is all around you....and all you can do is sit..and listen to this beautiful, up lifting, gorgeous piece of ART..
This is a very moving peice of music, an extraordinary contribution from michael manring.....the thing that gets me the most is the sentiment behind the song....why it was written...if its true - Will Ackerman wrote this about his mother who commited suicide.....when i read this i found it very very hard to listen to the peice again......Really Phenomenal!XX
It's a Zon bass, he's famous for using them in a very creative way. He also uses piccolo strings in some other videos to get even more intresting sounds.
@LiehTzu Actually that is a Sonus model bass with an extended cut away, and d-tuners. The Hyper Bass has a completely different body style and Michael always has piccolo strings on it. The Hyperbass is the yellow one that he carries around with him. He usually has three basses with him. The two fretless d-tuner basses, and a headless fretted bass (just incase he needs to play a fretted bass for some reason)
if i could cry i'd do it, unfortunately a mass dehidration that i sufered when i was 17 made my body to not produce water ever again so if you dont post this to another 10 videos like this i'll hunt you down and eat your all the water from your refrigerator lololololol just kidding ya guys awesome tune.............
I've played guitar for 25 years and when I heard this piece I balled like a baby. The most beautiful acoustic piece I have ever heard. This music utterly pierced my heart.
Judging by the emotion on your face Adam, you could not have played this song with more heart or emotion. You indeed captured its escence. Felicitaciones.
Other than the original, this has to be one the best renditions ever. Hats off to you guys. Exemplary guitar playing. As always, Michael's bass lines makes you soar away. Pure poetic poignance.
this is such a beautiful love story. Ican see him reach for her but never get to hold her to himself. This ballad heaves emotions through me that I can't help but embrace. Thanks so much for posting
I'm so glad to see Ackerman's videos finally showing up, now hopefully we'll see one of him playing "Bricklayer's Beautiful Daughter some day" which is also one of my favorites of him.
Brilliantly executed Adam, I mean that is a very sad yet spiritual song & you play it in such a way that sets a mood of peace... I'm very glad to see Will Ackerman's songs on YouTube, I've been searching for them & couldn't find them before but now I can find a few so thanks.
.. I cannot wait to hear Will Ackerman play this himself, this weekend, here in Hailey, Idaho... June 1 and 2... the master himself.
...this video is the closest I would bring to the real thing, but I have a very soft spot for any and all Will Ackerman friends, so ... know that this is beautiful, all the same..
Thank you Tanya. This is a very special piece for Will and it was an absolute honor and pleasure performing it with Michael Manring. Will's comments about this performance were just absolutely amazing. I charish his friendship and hope that I did the piece justice. Hope you had a great time at the show(s).
Thank you, Dakota! YESSSS!! You can, I am sure, relate to the amazing comments Will gave on the shows here in Sun Valley. Please send me your email as I would love to fill you in on a follow-up to it as it was a very great success. I would love to have you know about it and any future events here. Will is an amazing congretator and friend. Amazing. Thank you for writing back! =)
In a way, the atmosphere of the song reminds me of Moby. Nevertheless, beautiful. One of the most important things in music is knowing where your place is in each song and fragment. Manring knows it like no other.
michael's just hammering on and then turning the volume up to make a violin-sound. I do that live all the time, but nowhere near on the magnitude that Manring does.
Michael and I have become good friends over the years and though this piece of music is the most beautiful piece of guitar work, to me, Michael just adds a whole other element that fits just perfect. Thanx Will for letting me perform this piece!
Thanks for this beautiful music. I saw William Ackerman in concert several years ago but have been a fan for many more. I'm sure he would be pleased. Music of the Gods!

It's called the Hyperbass created by Michael Manring and Zon Guitars.

@GMoneyBassist145 Thanks for clearing that up. I got confused. I thought the red one was a Hyperbass too.
Have a great day.

@Semimentalman2 The first model of that bass comes in yellow.
LiehTzu 1 year ago
@Semimentalman2 ? manring normally plays Zon. you'd have to research more to figure out what model though. still looks like a Zon

ZON bass I believe- I saw him at a small music store promoting them. There were less than twenty people there. Manring is unreal good.

This peice is genius as it is so simple and beautiful. The genius is in the unique tuning which I've not come across before.

@bravehearts66 "This music utterly pierced my heart'.
As it did mine. One most crisp, emotionally stirring pieces ever written for an acoustic guitar. If a guitar cried, this is how it sounds.

@mackymaca Totally agree. This is the best I've heard, other than the original. You feel the ache, the tears, streaming from the strings.
I would have loved to have been there for that show!
Major kudos to both Adam & Mike.

What is that thing Michael holds in his right hand over the strings?
razla999 3 years ago
That is called an "eBow". It's an electromagnetic device that, when turned on, vibrates the string until taken away.

i wonder how much better this would have sounded had the bassist used volume swells instead of that e-bow thing.

Michael sometimes uses the eBow a little too much.
eBows are impossible enough to control, and Mike has a song where he uses two of them at once. Dude is a God.
