Get the straight facts along with lovely, smooth hair! Without the proper ventilation cosmetologists may be over exposed to excessive levels of formaldehyde or glutaraldehyde, so they should invest in an efficient ventilation system. A "Chemical Source Capture System" removes these potentially harmful vapors from the breathing zone of both the stylist and client. Search "Chemical Source Capture System", "Hair Smoothing Controversy" or "Preferred BKT Ventilation" for additional information.
Yes you can absolutely do this on Kinky hair. It works amazing and won't damage your own hair. It will weight your natural curl pattern down...seal in the shine and protect your cuticle from heat and further damage.
Hi. Japanese Straightening does exactly that it chemically breaks the bond and really is amazing IF you have strong hair and IF it is done right. I love what it can do for the hair. Make sure you do your homework when looking for the right salon! It can be a good thing if you find a stylist who is passionate about her job and YOUR hair :)
@StudioShe I think I might do japanese Straightening. My hair is really strong but I hope it's done correctly, but the woman who cuts my hair does amazing jobs so I hope I can trust her :)
@alyybiggbuns you can layer a bkt over japanese straightening or over a relaxer. That is really the ONLY way you can remove all of the curl and still get silky, straight hair. : )
Hi. If you are talking about the BB - it does not chemically break the bond of the hair. Which means that there is still some wave left to the hair. It protects the hair and in a sense is like a thermal protector. The keratin forms a cylinder around the cuticle which protects the natural hair. It does not take the curl out - simply relaxes it naturally.
thankyou for your comment. we don't carry brazilian blowout/treatment productsi that have formaldehyde. be sure to always check first with the salon to make sure that they carry products that are safe! however, japanese straightening is a chemical because it breaks down the bond of the hair so YES there is a small amount of formaldehyde....0008% to be exact. that is 75% less than any chemical that you smell at a nail salon or hair salon that is doing a perm. NO RISK!
this is NOT safe. even the "formaldehyde free" forumlas have ingredients that WHEN COMBINED create formaldehyde anyway.....dont do it. UNLESS you are absolutely desperate for straight hair and dont mind ALL of the risks !
Is it possible to spiral curl hair (ie: with an iron) after Japanese straightening?
I am black with a THICK head of baby finger sized curls all over save for one "nappy patch" and I have to blow dry and flat iron my hair straight before using it to make my spirals. It seems JHS would help me skip 2 steps-- unless it makes the hair too straight.
Brazilian Straightening is not as it has NO chemical. This is more of a TREATMENT. Brazilian Keratin does not break the hair bond therefore it isn't permant. Japanese has chemical and is more of a permanent straightening system that breaks the hair bond.
The owner of this salon is awesome! She did such a good job on my hair Im sad she is moving to California but they said she is returning - hope so. xox

I like them to do this on a african american type hair. U know the kinky/nappy kind. Not all black woman hair is alike. Just wondering.

@xXSkychanxX did it break off later on? or did it stay healthy? is it straight when you just let it air dry? or is it more wavy?
