  • That's why you don't put infinite BHP in your car.

  • After the horrible experience with the CLR and the dramatic incident at the 1954 24h, I hope Mercedes understood that the Circuit de la Sarthe hates them.

  • @clydeyello

Wtf? Show a little respect to the manufacturer of the first ever car !

  • @SectF1 I didn't want to sound disrespectful. But Mercedes was never extremely lucky at the 24h of Le Mans: they only bought home one victory (In 1952), overshadowed by the accident in 1955 that saw a 300 SLR as a protagonist and left 84 persons dead, and those ridicule backflips in '99.

  • @SectF1 ; Mercedes may have beaten others in producing the first motor vehicle, but he didn't invent the first combustion engine etc, he just got it to the media first....

Also seeing as they have been producing cars for so long why are they among the few manufacturers that will build a car that begins to rust within warrenty?

Merc Vito up to top spec models...google its all there

  • mercedes should build airplanes, not cars

  • where did that toyota go???? hey bro this is an clr

  • @fabunbutaps AS said before:

Know, but the red/white car in front of the Mercedes was, so try to imagine that it was the Mercedesdriver who said that ;)

  • Ahh :D Toyota GT-1 :D My fav

  • i wish that shit wud happen in gt5

  • maybe the weirdest crash in motorsport history

  • Wasn't that Mark Webber driving?

  • @livewiremjk Mark Webber had a similar accident in the sister car. :)

  • @livewiremjk

it happened to webber twice driving for mercedes, and they sacked him for it.

only to happen again in the same car for the replacement driver..

  • The GREAT IRONY in all of this, is that at the time MB was developing a medium-sized personal business jet...which was never put in production 'cause (listen closely, now), they couldn't get the bloody think off the ground! NOT a foot!

  • Some unknown force decided that Mercedes doesn't belong on this track.

  • "Mercedes: this is Mercedes racecar for race tower, i'm ready to take off

Tower: Mercedes racecar you have permission to take of after de next corner

    Mercedes: Roger that"

  • no air because of the first car and than bad down force

  • Bloody aerodynamics.

  • any other car have flied ever like that??

  • @cesaricardo1987 Yeh Webber last season, decided he wanted to join the red bull airforce....i beleive it was @ monaco.

  • I believe I can flyyy...

  • I'm sorry but if that was me... My Asshole would be so tight you couldn't stick a needle in there...

  • AMG-Tech just kicked in, yo!

  • i saw this live

when i was just a boy of 5

  • The Germans are exaggerating now build cars that fly .. ;) The pilot but not yet able to fly;)

  • Die Deutschen sind übertreibe jetzt bauen Autos, die fliegen .. ;) Der Pilot, aber noch nicht fliegen können;)

  • that year the was 5 lmp car blow overs 2 porcshes and 3 mercedes blow overs at le mans

  • @hissingsidney Actually, only two Mercedes´ crashed, the one with Webber and the one with Dumbreck. After this crash, Mercedes took the last car out, it didn´t crash

  • Comment removed

  • @dk95mp Yes I forgot that after the first flip in qualifying, Webber's car was rebuilt and he was allowed to use it in warm up, where it flipped again. So yeah 3 flips but only two of three Mercs actually flipped.

  • Mercedes building aeroplanes now !!!!!!!!

  • Mercedes tried to blame Webber for the 2 previous times the car flipped over. When this happened, they finally admitted it might just be an aerodynamic issue and withdrew their final car.

  • @gaz170 Really? That makes no sense since Mercedes made aero adjustments to the cars after the 1st and 2nd flips, so why would they change anything on the car if they felt the drivers were at fault?

  • Turbulence pwned?

  • thats what u get for being so aerodynamic lol

  • looks like the crash in valencia

  • thats like a burnout crash holy shit

  • holy shit!

  • Is died?

  • @StevlexChannel hes still alive, he driving f1 now where he crashes hard last week

  • @TheCodeLyokofreak it's not Webber

    it's Peter Dumbreck

  • @TheCodeLyokofreak

This wasn't Webber in this video. Webbo did flip his CLR-GTR this same year at Le Mans, but not as spectacular as this one.

  • @jc790 olav mol (dutch commentator)said

  • I believe that was the second Mercedes flip that year, the other one was fatal?

  • LOL!

  • aerodynamics ...... SWEET!

  • Damn!

  • It's not a toyota.

  • @hogwash2nd

Know, but the red/white car in front of the Mercedes was, so try to imagine that it was the Mercedesdriver who said that ;)

  • Ohh I get it now, Fair enough.

  • oops... too much downforce. :(

  • @Superchickenman159 No not enough, turbulence is created by the car in front, thats why it flipped, not enough down force

  • Wheelie :D

  • its hard to beleive its real like one of the thunderbird shows when they have the small cars fly off the road, its crazy to see a car flip into the forrest, dam he luck,.

  • welcome to clr airlines, plase fasten your seatbelt for the takeoff...

  • Now thats a damn blowover!

  • I was there when that happened on the right of the screen =D I still remember that and i was 7!!!

  • clean backflips, i cant even do 3 full backflips and im 180lbs and athletic.this 1900lb car beats me!

  • This Car was being driven by Mark Webber who is currently a driver for red bull racing for those of you that dont know, the car is the Mercedes CLR GTLM this was one of 3 accidents similar to this one that mark webber had over the 24hour LeMans race. the flip happens because when the car goes up the steep hill the air goes under the car and forces it to lift, because the car is travelling at such a high speed it therefore gets enough forces pushing against it to make it do a flip.

  • Another person who apparently didn't see the race and is not paying attention to what is being said. It was PETER DUMBRECK idiot. Weber had been in the car the other times but not this one. I was watching on tv when it happened and remember them saying then it was dumbreck driving. Where the hell do people keep getting this "weber was driving" crap? The reason i react this way is because there seems to be one or two commenting on every clip. It was 10 years ago, get it right people!

  • @TheQwaz Yes.You're all right!

  • @boswellsKid IT WAS PETER DUMBRECK not MARK WEBER!Get yor facts straait before you coment

  • It was nok Webber but Peter Dumbreck who did this flip. Webber did one in qualifying and in the warm up but not this one.

  • Boobs :D

  • this was the mercedes coupe not the toyota or the porsche. the mercedes CLR GTLM

  • know, but the car in front of it, the red/white one, was a Toyota GT-One. ;)

  • was that mark webber from australia

  • it was a porsche gt1

im pretty sure but it cold be a toyota

  • what Is he saying? lol?

I dont understand what hes saying xD

  • That's just because the world doesn't end outside your little bubble.

  • @RJLeffmann

yeah I dont get what that has to do with my comment

so Im just gonna Ignore you [:

thanks for wasting my time! xxx

  • LOL

  • yeah they are bankrupt

  • I wonder how it feels like to be in a flying car..

  • @G2IntegraDA well first there is a big..... lifting feeling.... than you feel waightless (as you see the world spin around you).... finaly comes the crash landing.... see the thing is nothing hurts you untill you land... it sucks

  • Its extremely Hard to stop it with le mans regulation.. full length diffusers arent used. its because the suspension allows the front end to lift... then the flat bottom creates practically a wing shape.. they've been trying to come up wwith ideas to stop it.

  • Don't forget it was a Mercedes.

They have caused more deaths in auto racing than all other makes combined.

Why would anybody buy such a POS name?

  • Because they have been wining races from the beginning including the first ever car race

  • Comment removed

  • Mercedes has always been a danger for spectators at Le Mans...They stayed away for 30 years, then attacked again. What if this happened near the stands?

  • its Peter Dumbreck. Mark Webber crashed in warm up lap

  • This is crazy! Of all the crashes I've seen in racing this has to be the scariest. I mean it literally went flipping through the air!

Also, wasn't this Mark Webber? I'm probably wrong.

Oh, and I love how german sounds!

  • I agree this is crazy and scary.

Mark Webber was one of the drivers in that car but it was Peter Dumbreck which was driving at the point of the crash.

  • i read the luckiest part of the story was that he landed in a spot where the track staff had removed some trees a couple of weeks before the race as a general safety precaution

  • My point is that a lot of cars have done this in the past and still do it has little to do with aerodynamic flaws. It's just a matter of setting the ride height wrong too low or too high front to back bump and rebound setting all wrong wrong springs can make a car pitch and oscillate; then the aerodynamics do the rest of the flying.

  • Plus, that area of the track used to have like a hump, or dip........and it would pick them up off the track if hit the right way...and when the air got to the underbody of these prototypes.....

  • Yes you know my pont is that the angle or incidence of the track is not the primary cause of the flight of that Mercedes, to me it says that Mercedes did not do the right amount of development work on the CLR GTP since it was constructed to win at Le Mans, and they could have tested road incidence ina wind tunnel, but they clearly did not do that.

  • Why do people keep calling this a CLR?? I thought Mercedes called it the CLK-GTR?? I loved this car when it came out in1998, but obviously it did not have enough downforce on the front of the car which is the main reason it flipped to begin with! And then they came out with the updated version in 2000 I believe which had a totally different rear wing design, and a revamped front end design also.

  • Cause it is the CLR. The CLK GTR was raced in the 1998 Le Mans. This is 1999 and it's an updated version of it.

  • Its impossible to predict aerodynamics that way. Such accidents have happened at Le mans even in recent past (I think Peugeot had a small flight lesson a few years back).

Besides, if shit decides to happen its going to happen no matter what.

  • It is possible to predict aerodynamics that way.

F1 teams do it, major racing teams do it. It's not a lot of time or money considering the potential disaster you have waiting in the wings.

  • Yah, Peugeot got into a "flying" accident in 08 Le mans. :) Only in Le Mans do you see flying cars.. d:

  • Bull. If precautions are taken, some preventable crap won't happen. It isn't written in stone.

  • It was the suspension settings that caused the car to takeoff. I f the ride height or damper settings were just right for this vehicle to pitch up or oscillate more than 1 cm on it's dampers then the car will fly! Once the suspension is set wrong or the car oscillates that's not the aerodynamics it's the suspension. Once the car is 1 cm off the ground the flat bottom acts as a sail and the car just takes off.

  • it's a Mercedes not toyota

  • i know, but try to see it, as its the Mercedes-driver who says it, because the red car in front of the Mercedes is a Toyota

  • I watched this happen on TV... I still can't believe no-one got hurt!

  • That would have been awesome if he would have flown over the car ahead of him and passed the finish line while doing so and beat the car ahead of him

  • Not to insult your gangsterness video poster, but don't you mean "Join the group with (not whit) the ultimate clips" and "and EVERYONE is welcome (not are welcome)"? Just trying to help you guys out.

    Cool video btw.

  • Mark Webber can fly!

  • The speed these things go and the Areodynamics they have is the problem isnt it?

    Whoopsidoodle!

  • its a bird its a plane its Peter Dumbreck's Mercedes O.o

  • GO BABY GO !!!!

  • le mans is a very diffuclt track it takes years of experiance and reputation building to race in it.for a car going airbourne in le mans was no real suprise to me. in a f1 race yes but this? not really. i hope f1 race in le mans soon that would be awesome!

  • Comment removed

  • O.O crazy

  • Webber's Mercedes went airbourne in qualifing, Peter Dumbrecks went airbourne during the race and mercedes pulled all the cars out, Webber never started the race

  • The Mercedes flipped AGAIN during the Pe tete Lemans at Road Atlanta and that was the end of that for Le Mans competition for Mercedes

  • What are you talking about? Mercedes never even raced in US in 1999.

You must be talking about Bill Auberlen's BMW LMR V12 in 2000 and Porsche GT1 in 1998, both flipped at Road Atlanta, pretty much in the same exact spot even. Vids can be found here if you search for them.

  • yea thats what I meant

  • It wasn't Mark Webber.

  • O.O

    That's a backflip LOL

It's Mark Webber, current F1 driver

  • Imagine the G's you'd pull doing that!

  • Comment removed

  • Would've been better without label.

  • LOL toyota its a mercedez benz u can tell because its silver lol

  • try to understand that its the Merc there says it, because the Toyota is ahead of the Merc.

  • but ure comment says were did the toyota go lol the toyota is racing and the merc disappears so its sounds like ure asking were did the flying car go

  • I want it to mean that its the Merc there are asking

  • Why the hell are u asking where did that Toyota go ? Its a Mercedes.

  • in front of the Mercedes is there a red/white Toyota. understand?

  • That was a hell of a crash. Incredible to see. I'd love to see the face of the guy driving the prosche (or is it a viper?) behind him *_*

  • I think its a porsche behind him and I think He was shocked !

  • So would you if the car in front just did a backflip!! Maybe they put the airfoil on the wrong way round lol

  • he survived

  • In fact, if I remember correctly he sustained only minor injuries...

  • This crash occurred just after the mercedes went over a crest in the track and was passing. In practice the same thing happened. The Mercedes engineers made aero adjustments to correct the problem of air getting under and hitting the car broadside as well, creating instability. Rules changes were promulgated to solve problems of lift, mainly to the flat underside of the cars. This I got from Racer mag, and I am sure that there are more knowledgeable people out there who can be more specific.

  • Does anyone know the codes to clear the radio on a 98 ML320?

  • I love the flying through the air.

  • he should have had a huge ass wing for downforce...=P

  • boy you are genius, I'm surprised the engineers of a million dollar car never thought of that. plus a rear wing doesn't help once your front end takes flight. That is why they have front wings too!

  • haha, yeah...i was just kiddin brolio. When i make fun of someones wing, they usually tell me "its for downforce man!". just funny

  • It flies just like the toy version that I have LOL... And it has the covered bottom too...Sad to see such damage, but at least it made onto Toutube with a high lever of badassedness

  • OMG

  • JESUS FUCKIN CHRIST.

  • i wonder how many Gs the inside was pulling

  • He continued in forward motion, while spinning and twisting, so I assume it was in between 5-9
