Another explanation could be that he has heard from so many people that he was just kidding himself that he eventually started to believe them. Or more precisely: He started doubting his own memory. However, what is really interesting is that six other people witnessed his abduction.
I think the real conclusion is that something happened to him, while witnessed by 6 others, but what it was remains unknown.
The mind's complexity is truly amazing, a lie can become one's reality given a certain amount of time. Denying the posibility that he simply started to believe himself is no better than simply dismissing his story. I for one, will always choose the most reasonable explanation, and being abducted by a cliche spaceship and having a conspiracy cover up the evidence seems more far-fetched than a man suffering from a scientifically proven condition. A polygraph tracks how the person's heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate and electrodermal activity change during a time frame when a question is asked. (aka stress) It does NOT substantiate a factual certainty. Poly's can be beaten easily. And if one believes a certain answer is true regardless of the factual evidence, the answer will appear to pass.

This show is stupid. This is the first episode I've watched. Firstly, I think it's horrible to exploit a family's hardest emotions on national television just to make money. That aside, secondly, I do think this show is rigged. A quick Google search just told me this show was on air for only a little over a year. I'm glad Fox took this shit off of television.

I'm not trying to defend the guy much because I would have to know him and his story a lot more to believe or not believe, but it is true, polygraphs are never 100% and in any case whatsoever they CAN be wrong. Not saying that answer was or was not wrong, but it IS possible that that answer is the truth.

So when he is asked 'were you abducted' all he can comment on is what he believes. The only reason I can come up with for why he would have legitimately failed the last question is because all of the doubt he must face from people not believing him which ultimately makes him doubt himself. The important thing is what he believes happened to him.

When you tell someone shocking news the expression of shock on the persons face lasts for about 2 seconds max. The shocked look on his face on that last question is about 2 seconds. If it was more then that he's trying to convince people that he didn't lie He told the truth on the last question.

Having watched a couple of these episodes I am not sure what the network which commissioned this was thinking, but as the US TV Networks are all about ratings, this must have been a ratings winner. People go on these type of shows thinking they are going to get an easy USD 200,000.
