  • Armstrong was amazing! World champion (no alphabet soup titles, no junior titles) in three weight divisions - and he held them simultaneously! And he really deserved four. He defended his welter title between 9 and 20 times (depending on you reckon it). These were all lineal titles. Armstrong had losses early, but he really turned it on in 1936. Pacquiao is an amazing fighter, too. But I don't know if he could deal with this level of pressure. Ambers was great in his own right.

  • Henry Armstrong was just like Manny Pacquiao's early years in boxing, no defense and style. He only keeps coming forward. When it comes to styles, he is not in the Manny Pacquiao's elite level of fighting. No way he is the 2nd greatest boxer of all time. Manny is more superior and higher than Armstrong.

  • I have Henry Armstrong ranked as the 2nd greatest boxer of all time, behind Sugar Ray Robinson.

  • @corytclark Thats too high a ranking for Armstrong he was great but not number two, no way, he lost too many fights.

  • It doesn't matter how many times you've lost a fight. Sugar Ray Robinson lost 19 times.

Armstrong is the first (and only) fighter to hold 3 titles simultaniously. He fought 7 champions and 12 Hall of Famers (Baby Arizmendi, Midget Wolgast, Benny Bass, Albert "Chalky" Wright, Barney Ross, Lou Ambers, Lew Jenkins, Beau Jack, Sammy Angott, and Sugar Ray Robinson). He defended the welterweight title a record 19 times. And in 1937-38, he had an imressive 27 straight KO's.
