I can understand why they don't let seller leave feedback, as their some sellers use it as a tool for extortion, when they sell a bad item, or feedback retaliation for a honest negative feedback that was left, in a real business it the same, buyer is always right, even when they are wrong. They sure fix the claim system, so buyers/scammers don't take advantage, making them show absolute proof that the "item was not as described", but found out calling eBay customer service always fix the issues.
Their also some sellers that overcharge for shipping to avoid fees, one guy charge $275 dollars to ship a DSLR camera, feel sorry for the buyer as the camera he bidded on was worth only $500 bucks and listing ended at $440, reported that seller, but ebay sure supend those that overcharge on shipping and their 100's of listing like that. But of course some head officer at the company figure, "let profit off this to"? Don't think it going to go over, as good sellers had enough already.
How do I know if I'm getting a good deal on shipping cost? I'v bought some small items that don't weigh anything. The person I bought it from says the shipping is $9.50 and i'v asked them if they could wait because I want to bid on more of their items. I asked them if all of my items could be put in the same box to help me on shipping charges. They said that that's not possible because they do their invoicing weekly. I just think they are being difficult. Can you give me any advice?
Sorry for the late reply. Most sellers will work w/ you on shipping. The ones who don't aren't worth buying from. I always combine shipping. You can always try and guess the weight and use the shipping calc. on the USPS website to estimate the shipping. Ebay does take a chunk of our shipping costs now, but some sellers still inflate the cost. I don't know how they get away w/ it. And if a seller lives close to you, don't be afraid to ask for a discount. TFW, Heather
you say it cost $5.83 if you ship online, how do you ship online? do you ever ship online if?one day I would like to sell on Etsy but I dont know if its the same shipping situation as Ebay.what is the maximum weight you can ship for $5.95? how do you figure out what shipping would cost with another item?
Sorry for the late reply. It all depends on what you're shipping. I sell all kinds of different things, so I have to figure out costs for everything. Hopefully if you sell on Etsy, you're not selling such a wide variety. A lot of shipping is estimating, but using the shipping calculator on the post office website helps me a lot. Sometimes I lose a little and sometimes I make a bit of a profit. It usually balances out in the end. TFW, Heather
super informative, problem I find selling is say I want to ship a dvd in a flat rate evelop which = 4.95 to ship ..well ebay sets the max shipping limit to 3$ it's shit like that eBay.
Biggest ripoff: Shipping a single Pokemon trading card for $25! The seller had the list price as $0.99, but did so just to "make money off of shipping costs". That is plain WRONG!
OK so the vid made sense. When you were calculating costs through USPS on the computer...........does this include the price of the priority mail boxes? Also how do you find out the costs of all the priority mail boxes and their sizes? Thanks.....and if you would please email me your response at cdseverance@hotmail.com
Your Vid is titled " shipping basics" you spent the first 2 minutes and 44 seconds bitching about E Bay. Ok you have some valid comments, but they have nothing to do with shipping. You might like to stay on topic.
Thank you very much. You mentioned alot of answers to the questions I had. I have even been trying to decide wheither or not to go to etsy or ebay. Your video is a big help. The fees are blowing me away and I have a feeling that my products would get better exposure at etsy. Thank you!!
Thanks for your replies. I have 1 more question...I'm kinda holding off on posting my first item on eBay because I'm still unsure of the whole shipping thing. When i go to post all my info on the item I'm listing, and I come to the part about shipping cost, then I'm stumped. How does a person know a shipping cost when they post a listing, when they have no idea who will buy the item and where they live? I just don't get that :( Thanks in advance, you've been helpful.
you said "if it's something crafty, just open a ??? account" I played this over and over and still make out what you said lol. What kind of account do we open if we're selling something crafty?
The site is called Etsy. You can go to etsydotcom and find the site (YT won't let me put actual links into the comments. It's a great site and their fees aren't as high as ebay. They do not do auctions though...everything has a set price. TFW, Heather
I learned a lot from this video, thanks so much!! I do have a couple questions though...when u were on the USPS.com site and was typing in the zip codes (from and to), why would you type in a zip code furthest from you, instead of putting in the zip code of the buyers address? I don't understand that part. And 2nd question is, u mentioned media mail. How come you can't send magazines media mail? Thanks in advance ;)
You're very welcome! I put in a zip for CA b/c I need to figure out a flat rate shipping cost when I initially list the item. If the shipping ends up being a little high for a buyer that's close to me, I sometimes discount the shipping once they buy the item or I'll upgrade the shipping to priority if I can. Magazines can't be sent media mail b/c they contain advertising....don't know what the big deal is, but that's the rule. Hope that helped! TFW, Heather
We have always paid fees on the shipping amt with PayPal(ebay). They take their fees out of the total amount taken in on any transactions....so now we will be double charged with the new FVFs.
I know, but somehow this seems worse. Now it's like a double slap in the face. Plus, PayPal never took as big a chunk as ebay does. The rich keep getting richer. TFW, Heather
Thanks, Tina. 90210....really sad, huh? Funny thing is, I have a friend on here who also sells on ebay and she messaged me and told me she uses the same zip code! At least I'm not the only pathetic one. Hope this helps your hubby decide if he wants to sell or not. Ebay is not on my favorite things list right now, but they get so much traffic that we all kind of have to sell there. TFW, Heather
don't sell on ebay, unless you're willing to give ebay all you're personal information. Sell stealth, watch my videos!.
