Hickstead was the horse of a lifetime for Eric, I'll never forget Beijing, hair-pinning turns with hat/eyes/tail on fire. Jumping the standards, he was a tricky horse to turn in the beginning, if I recall.

I quit coffee in Aug 2008,when Eric & "Sticks" won gold. Didn't miss it at all, watching them!Like a dragon, flaming around the ring.
For all their strength and power and beauty, the fact that they carry us to heights we could not imagine on our own, it's painful when we are reminded of how truly fragile they can be. My deepest sympathies to those who knew Hickstead.
It is so sad, how we never realize what we have until it is gone. A few days ago I had never herd of this horse. It was not until after his death that I got to experience how incredible this horse was. This horse is truly amazing I just wish I could have known that before. Now though, he may jump forever with out slowing down. RIP Hickstead.
Hickstead will never be forgotten, and made a difference in the world of showjumping, and in the hearts of many. He will live on in the dreams of all the horse world, and will never stop being loved. Thank you for sharing such an amazing champion with us, he showed us what being a true winner meant, in and out of the ring. ♥ Im so glad I got to see the two of them compete twice, I loved that horse. You know, this could even happen to the most athletic human in the world. Shit happens and to bad it was to the best. But what a way to go, I would have it no other way. God said that is the best horse, time for me to have him. So he went back up to his beloved creator.
Every single time I watch the final fence of the 07 International I get goosebumps, did watching in person and I will every time I watch it from now on. Truly the best partnership Canada has seen! Everyone will miss you, Hickstead!
