The second mucis sounds alot like French national Hymn : "Allons enfants de la patrie"... odd for WW2 battles between Russians and Germans but... nice video anyway, love it !
@Evil1270 That is because the music you are referring to IS a quotation of La Marseillaise. The 1812 Overture was written by Tchaikovsky to commemorate the 75th anniversary of defeating Napoleon's army (in 1812). So naturally, he quotes both the Russian National Hymn and the French to symbolize the two forces in the battle.
dude, metal is hardly played in movies unless you want to go for hardcore American Horro moives. you hear almost rap everywhere now. it is even in video games now.
@rachmaniralf Are you referring to how I cut up the piece itself? I didn't include the ENTIRE 1812 Overture because it's about 15-20 minutes long and no machinima work that focuses on game play (no story, etc) can keep anyone's interest for that long. It just wouldn't be an effective video.
Him glad i could get back the gore settings on RO again to normal as it should be. It is not a low violence chip though... More likely a bug that made this game look like a a TEEN rated game in europe from the usually M rated version that the original got banned in Germany and Norway and some other countries which can be fixed. But thanks for this video it is pretty epic one of the best though. You really making awesome videos dude. But i want you to know that my Steam name is MichFhürer1488.
@hockeywarrior Ah well there are actually "cannons" written into the sheet music for this piece, so that's why you'll hear them on any recording of 1812.
@indoorin it's a WWII game set on the Eastern Front (Russians vs Germans) made by Tripwire Interactive. Very realistic and challenging to play, but also extremely rewarding. Red Orchestra 2 is its highly anticipated sequel, due to release some time in 2011.
@AMT4245 Lol that is kinda an oxymoron of the present. But I'm not much of a PC gamer. It's either platform or I'm out. unless its something like that empire game.
@marcineer the opening is actually a hymn from the russian orthodox church. as is it always in the 1812 overture. most do not know this as they dont know the origins of this piece of music. they just assume its 'that music we hear on the fourth of july'"
@SweetLou0523 ... and is about the War of 1812 durrrrrr." True, very few people know these things. Though, imo, Tchaikovsky pretty much overused themes like this (Long Live the Tsar, etc) in many of his highly publicized Nationalist works. Oh well, it's still great music.
@101division44 Lol read my original post more carefully. I'm well aware of what the overture is written for -- I'm mocking people who think that it is for the US War of 1812, since that makes absolutely no sense what so ever (hence the durrrrr added on to the end of the sentence...). And I go on to say how the opening hymn is derived from a Russian Orthodox Church hymn.
I love how the gratituous use of not only pretty well-known Russian hymns and folk songs but also God Save the Tsar and the goddamn Marseillaise still isn't enough for them to figure out what it's about.
With that said, I think people everywhere can appreciate it just for the feeling it stirs. Tchaikovsky may not have been pleased with it, but I'll be damned if it isn't one of the most beautiful and powerful pieces written.
I need help, i've installed RO, and its all fine, but when i come to load a practice map it freezes and won't respond, and also theres no servers on the multiplayer maps, please someone help me
@skittlesareyum48 not any time soon. I'm kinda tired of making them for RO and as of right now I don't have a game that I'd like to use. I've got some ideas bouncing in my head though so stay tuned ; )
Neeme Jarvi is conducting... it's his home orchestra but not everyone knows their orchestra conductors ;) There's probably only one recording out there. "On the Steppes of Central Asia" by Borodin is also on the album which might help.
Thanks for the kind words everyone. I DO want to make another cinematic movie soon, but I've got to recover all my video editing software. I virus wipe me out a few weeks back. Once all that's up and and running we'll see what I can come up with.
In the end of time, there will be no life, no fighting, no death, Just an endless peace filled with sadness and days of dark. Life, life will never return to this ruined world. And war, war was humanities error in its existance
Could you please tell me which version of the 1812 overture you used for this video? Rarely do I hear a choir singing this in tune. This seems to be a nice recording.
That's a combination of generally poor video quality (that's my bad... this is before I had good technology) and the game's vision blur effect when grenades go off near by. Unfortunately it effects those in "spectate" mode as well and can't be turned off.
STFU you arse-wipe,...ive been playing that game when it first came out and i know several players personally who hack on the multiplayer games especially 24/7 arad ............jeez you ought to get back in the game..no hackers in RO lol thats as bad as saying no one cheats in counter strike

Can you tell me what map of Red Orchestra you did use for the opening scene with the barbed wire? Couldn't find that in Smolenskstalemate. Or is it from another Game?
Haha I'm surprised no one has said anything until now about that! The truth is, originally I was going to use the map Gorlitz for this video (the epic, linear urban map that has bridges and the rail yard at the end). Not enough servers ran that map so I switched to Smolensk Stalemate. I still liked that shot I got from the Gorlitz footage and decided to throw it in because it was purdy.
Since i'm creating my first RO-Map i was llooking for the barbed-wire - static mesh for decoration purposes. I had played the Gorlitz map already a few times but did not notice the barbed-wire. I do also create ingame-video's by myself and i know how much work it is. Nice done your video, i think you have potential to make great movies, keep on the good work! ; )

I recently picked up the Adobe Creative Suite which gives me access to all sorts of awesome. Sure beats Windows Movie Maker... so yea, that will really change the quality of my future movies. I didn't like it. I think you could do.. no, you can! do much better movie than that. I think it was to chaotic, you should show us more of the attack, point by point, show us the fall backs of defenders when the germans shot them in backs and when they are taking place after place. Anyway good luck in the future, that was the best RO movie I've seen ;)
Thanks again for all your comments guys -- they are very much appreciated. If I have time, I would like to make a video based off of the Darkest Hour mod for RO. I'll keep you posted.
I love this game to death ^.^ its so good, Best WW2 game ever. :) Really is. Lots of great concepts to this game the other ww2 games don't have. I'd be playing it right now : / but my computer doesn't handle it to well : / so i got myself an XPS just waiting on it..then ill be back in the fight! cant wait :)
wow, top notch quality.. I would expect a video of this caliber to have more views than it does. Great job, I love the aesthetic aspect of this movie.
Thanks for the comments guys! Soon I will be once again hard at work on a new RO movie, only this time, in Normandy with the Darkest Hour mod! Coming Soon, to a beach near you!

You do realize that the movie is unscripted and therefore most of the things you talk about are not even possible?

Really nice job. RO is really the best realistic WW2 shooter out there. Up there with OFP.

Just play on a server that use them. You couldn't use them anyways.
