Thank you for this video - it helps people to see through the slick hype and the intensive sales spin that surrounds the Lightning Process. The patient charities 'the ME Association', 'Invest in ME', the childrens ME charity 'The Tymes Trust' and the 25% Group patient charity too have grave concerns about Lightning Process. Too many ME patients have become more ill after doing what the Lightning Trainers told them to.
The facts just sort of speak for themselves - I was ill for 4 years with ME/CFS, and I hated it. I couldn't ever even manage a full week at school. Now, having done LP, I am doing a full time university course, holding down a part time job, and playing Roller Derby.
It may not work for the people who do not apply it to their lives. You have to be committed. It is not a miracle cure. To use a cheesy work-out phrase: IT WORKS IF YOU WORK IT :p
I am going to have to do a video response to this (it will be interesting whether Mr Farrell will accept the response... Something tells me he may not wish to listen) because there is far too much to say in response to this. I totally understand where he is coming from because I too was at first sceptical, but guess what... LP WORKS! Having done the course myself and having known other people to have successfully done it also I can vouch for it.

@GBCTwo Oh ok. Well yes, I can see where he thinks he is coming from, but he is misinformed and has misunderstanding quite a bit. It would just be such a shame if he scared people away from LP as it does work for so many people and can help them to turn their lives around.
@CoraRora For what it's worth it appears, to me at least, that two things come to mind re LP and ME: one is that because of the arguable nature of who is dumped in the bin marked CFS/ME there may be some that will be helped by methods such as LP, CBT and the like and two is that there seems to be a zeal behind the promotion of LP. I was at an ME conference two years ago and someone brought up the topic of LP almost as if they were on commission.
At least he's doing something positive. A lot of people slag off me treatments but even if they have s mall success rate it's a lot more than the nhs can offer.
@knackeredcow My suspicion, for what it's worth, is that you're probably right. Did the people who were 'cured' by LP have a physiological illness or mental health problems? "Chronic fatigue" is an extraordinarily vague term which proponents of LP often use - you've only got to look at comments here and elsewhere. I've attempted to ask questions in this comments section before and some of the people who I wanted answers from disappeared. I wonder why?
Some claim that Lightning cured their "chronic fatigue". But chronic fatigue is not ME; chronic fatigue is a very common symptom of a great many conditions. ME is a WHO classified Neurological Immune disease that should have parity with Motor Neurone Disease according to the Chief Medical Officer in 2002. The Lightning Process Marketing Machine exploits the language confusion between Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (another term for ME) and the common problem of chronic fatigue.

@ammaone1 - The Advertising Standards Authority has ruled against Lightning Process advertising that was making unproven, unsubstatiated 'curative' claims for Lightning. A great many very sick people with ME, including young people, have been made even more ill by doing Lightning Process.
@ammaone1 At the Royal Society of Medicine Conference in 2008, Jane Colby, Director of the Tymes Trust ME children’s charity, highlighted sad cases of children who had done Lightning Process *telling* everyone that they were recovered when they were in fact very sick. One family lost vital support from social and educational services as a result. Lightning Process teaches people to *say* they are recovered when they are not recovered. Thats what Lightning IS - intensive false "positivity"
there are so many statements in these videos and comments that are untrue, but I will just focus on two of them for now..
1) The LP is not 'mind over matter'! It recognises M.E as a neurological disease ( i.e. an illness of the nervous system) and shows how LP can be used to take control back of your nervous system
2) I was never told at any time that I couldn't talk about the LP to other people, and I have never met anyone who says they were either
Guess what.......yep, I'm another person who is recovering from M.E using the LP 'scam'! I'm very sorry to hear that it hasn't worked for everyone, but that's no reason to start labelling it a scam. I consider myself to be a very switched on person, with lots of drive, determination and ability, and I struggled for months with the LP before I started to understand how to use it properly. Some people get better within a few days, others it takes years, everyone is just different.
Some of those debunking Lightning have decades experience of mindmethods; that's how we know Phil Parker's Lightning (Hypnosis) is a scam! Phil Parker has redefined organic ME as stress and banned criticism of his tricky methods. He uses an array of hypnotic techniques, and crude coaching and self hypnosis (the Stop technique) taken to the level of obedience training. I had chronic fatigue for about 10 years. I was very skeptical of the Lightning Process, it was a gamble for me in many ways to attend the course, which I did last year. It worked. It took a few months but I am now free of CF. I don't use the process any more, but it really did work. I would recommend it to anyone.
@niansenx Good for you! I did it too and got better 4 years ago and have never looked back. I tried to share my story but received hate mail from bizarre people in the M.E world who inexplicably hate the Lightning Process. I stopped trying to share my story because I ended up feeling hounded on line by people such as the author of this video.
@thepresscontact I asked niansenx what were the symptoms of their "chronic fatigue" some months ago and didn't receive a reply. Is that the type of "hounding" you are referring to?
LP does work , if you want it to and are prepared to put the effort in and work at it......it gave me my wife back after 21/2 years suffering. yes , its a lot of money but what price can you put on re-gaining a "normal" life. what alternatives do conventional medicine offer?.....none!! dont listen to the armchair experts or whingers. (i would like to state that i am in no way connected to mr parker other than in my gratitude for getting my lively , vivacious , bright , love back!!!!)
@scubaroo What was your wife diagnosed with? Given that LP is currently being promoted as a therapy or even a cure for ME and that ME is classed as a neurological disorder which includes poor memory and loss of balance amongst its symptoms, how does LP treat symptoms like that?
@scubaroo yes your are so right! i am another success story. i am bright alive and full of health, its been a year now and i have put weight on and i look great and feel great. i am going to my brothers wedding 400 miles away at the weekend! doing a reading in front of everyone and i cant wait to meet everyone and have a great dance! life has changed completley for me since LP!
L P works , if you want it to and are prepared to put the work in to achieve results! it gave me my wife back after 2 1/2 years of suffering. granted its not cheap but what price do you put on a "normal" life and what alternative does conventional medicine offer?........none! dont knock it unless you've tried it....and ignore the armchair theorists & whingers!!! Thanks, GBCTwo. I watched part 2 and towards the end he offers his criticism of the LP. I didn't want to watch as he seemed to be just telling us about the LP which I already know. Will watch part 3 and see how that is. I don't mind the fact that he;s not a professional broadcaster. It wasn't a criticism of his style but just a concern about what his intentions were.
Is it me or is the guy in this video using NLP techniques to subtley get the names, The Lightning Process and Phil Parker into your heads so you'll be interested and find out more about it? His monotone voice and rhythm, the continued reference to the names (he doesn't have to keep repeating them) and the mention of the website.
@HearAndLove I doubt that. When I recorded the videos with Ciaran, he was not reading from autocue - he memorised a series of points and expanded upon them in front of camera. He is not a professional broadcaster of course but what you see is what you get; he is not in the greatest of health and he tends to have a slow and methodical way of doing things and if his health is worse than normal, that can impact as well.
you are supposed to do it 100s of times and it will have an effect. It appears to have worked for some people including my sister, but it hasn't had much effect on me. I still do it a few times a day, but for me it hasn't been the miracle cure they promised and that we shelled out 600 pounds before.
I had got into the habit of producing them and getting stressed by every little situation, whereas my hypothalumus was not used to producing endorphins.
The lp is a form of neural lingustic reprogramming. Whenever I have a negative thought such as "I am in pain" or "I am worried", I isolate that thought and say it out loud: "I'm in pain"
Then I shout "STOP" at the top of my voice as if 'my life depended on it'.
Then I say 'Choice: Do I want to go on being in pain, or do I want to choose

I went to the lightning process in Wales with Amir Norris, 4 years ago. He made the claim that everyone who used the process was instantly healed, a 100% success rate. It worked on my sister who went from having ME to being completely well in a matter of days. It didn't work on my mum who has mild ME, and it doesn't appear to have worked on me, although when I do the lightning process it appears to reduce the pain level. Placebo or real cure, I have no idea...
please note that LP had nothing to do with voodoo when i went on it. this is getting perfetically dumb. just pay the 560 and go on the course and get well and u will realise its all good for your helath , if not walow in your self pitty and anger. that certainly wont add to your longing of r a life of health and wellbein will it?
@SterileGreen i had real depression in my childhood and teenage. i know what depression is and it wasnt the same as the ME/CFS i had. i cured myself using lightning process.
It's a cop out that you refuse to discuss the details of the LP. If you don't want to be secretive, then tell us about your LP experience, how much it cost, and what it entailed.

Do you have a web page where you outline exactly what happened on your course with Phil Parker, and how exactly the LP works? If indeed the LP is a cure for ME/CFS, there are millions of people worldwide who would be very interested in it.

The article you mention is based on the false assumption that Voodoo Deaths are caused by "Curses." It was proved some time ago that they are caused by a powerful neuro-toxin obtained from the puffer fish. The same poison was used by Voodoo priests to create "Zombies." Also a scientific article would have used the phrase "Nocebo response," not "Nocebo effect." There is no scientific evidence that The Nocebo Response actually exists. It is irrational to say, "Hot exists, because cold does."
You cited an article in The New Scientist about Voodoo to argue The Lightning Process (Trade Mark) worked due to "The Nocebo." You cannot argue that something exists because an opposite must exist. E.g. Houses exist, therefore Anti-Houses, or Unhouses must exist. Just because some people believe in the contentious construct "The Placebo", is no proof "The Nocebo" exists. Especially if non existent Voodoo magic is used as evidence of it's existence. Voodoo tricks exist, but not Voodoo magic.
@ShowalterdontlikeME no u missunderstood me, i am simply just a girl who cured herself of ME/CFS by using the lightning process. i was just saying that in the article it talked about the nocebo effect ie if you beleive that something is not beneficial or bad for you then it can effect your body. ie being told you are ill, have cancer, etc will have a pysical effect on your bodu, releasing of hormones etc. thats all.
i find it really weird how people can be in such disbelief that i did have real ME and that i am better through using the LP on myself.
surly if one is ill then one would be happy to hear that there is a very real way out. its because alot of ME people attach their whole personality and ego to their illness. i was one of them actually to a certain degree! time to let go and get healed. why hang on to the illness and rage war against those who have got cured?

yes i am saying that people think themselves ill in alot of cases, becaus ei have thought myself well to a certain degree, but it was just that my body has also had the chance to repair itself through using LP on myself.

I asked another person who commented on part three of this series similar questions and they have not replied as yet. You seem to imply that I have an (cliche time) 'attitude'. I don't believe that I have. Dare I suggest that your now unwillingness to reply asks more questions than it answers? I am all for people seeking cures but I thought asking questions of you was perfectly reasonable.

My motive is to get people talking about issues regarding M.E.. I find it slightly ironic that a piece that I recorded with someone who was slightly sceptical about LP because of its mental health connotations should lead me to be likened to an 'all in your head' GP.

I a not ill any more , but when i had ME i would say i had a physical illness, using the lp on my ME cured me beacuse the mind is very powerful over the body. isnt that amazing. i didnt know that before LP and i am still amazed. thing is the proof is in the fact that i am tottally well and ok! LP certainly doesnt teach people how ME is not real it teaches you that it is very real and how you can turn it around. we are only just learning how powerful we are at healing ourselves!

I was cured from ME/CFS yes i had it for 12 years and i was very very ill with it, i had carers and i was bed bound at times. i feel like you are trying to discredit the fact that i even had ME! ofcourse i did. i went to the somerset NHS ME/CFS clinc and saw my doctor regulary! what evidence eaxtly is there that i have been conned? i am tottally well and no longer have any me/cfs!
i never met phil parker, what ever he has supposed to of done i am not sure, i am sure he isnt perfect as we all arent, but i would personally thank him for my Wonderful health, not because he personaly cure me, but because he developed a tool that i used on myself to cure myself!

Th people I know with neurological M.E. have become worse doing LP, not better. How can a 'therapist' who has bought a franchise and done a few hours training possibly cure a complex physical illness resulting from a retrovirus? Is Phil Parker also claiming he can cure AIDS?
I hate the way LP is advertised for free here and in the media. eg Vikki Rimmer, who has had numerous letters and articles published claiming she was cured by LP never mentioned she was Phil Parker's press agent.
Private Eye magazine Issue number 1248Page 10, 'Legal News ' section this week, writes that ME sufferers who have posted their views on the Lightning Process that they had paid £600 for, and which did not work, have received warnings of defamation proceedings if they did not recant.

I'm not sure I'd refer to it as a "scam" but I think what Ciaran is asking for is a little more transparency. Recently there has been some promotion of LP amongst the M.E. 'community' (recent examples being the RSM conference and the APPG services inquiry) and according to the people who sung its praises, it has given them new lives. However, there are many out there that are sceptical.
My sister tried the Lightning Process in desperation.. She was mildly affected but the 3days of attending and trying the ineffective treatment gave her a huge relapse as it did 3 other friends that she met on the course.
They were all so upset that they had been duped and tricked in their desperation into wasting £550 and being made allot worse!

i would go for the lightning process, its the best 560 i ever spent and i am not rich lol. i will never look back, i am not a newage white wash kinda person far from it. and it really worked for me. i hade ME for 12 years and i was really ill. my life is just getting better and better. thanks to this channel for allowing this debate thought it should be talked about. my trainer NEVER said dont talk about it.

I feel sad reading this report as it's a combination of some facts and negative interpretations of them, and some statements which are not true about LP, which are so different from my experience as I have regained health through the Lightning Process and helped change the lives of others as a Lightning Process Practitioner. I love the Process and the effect it's had on me and others!

@ammaone1 - The Advertising Standards Authority has ruled against Lightning Process advertising that was making unproven, unsubstatiated 'curative' claims for Lightning. A great many very sick people with ME, including young people, have been made even more ill by doing Lightning Process.

@ammaone1 At the Royal Society of Medicine Conference in 2008, Jane Colby, Director of the Tymes Trust ME children’s charity, highlighted sad cases of children who had done Lightning Process *telling* everyone that they were recovered when they were in fact very sick. One family lost vital support from social and educational services as a result. Lightning Process teaches people to *say* they are recovered when they are not recovered. Thats what Lightning IS - intensive false "positivity"

there are so many statements in these videos and comments that are untrue, but I will just focus on two of them for now..
1) The LP is not 'mind over matter'! It recognises M.E as a neurological disease ( i.e. an illness of the nervous system) and shows how LP can be used to take control back of your nervous system
2) I was never told at any time that I couldn't talk about the LP to other people, and I have never met anyone who says they were either

Guess what.......yep, I'm another person who is recovering from M.E using the LP 'scam'! I'm very sorry to hear that it hasn't worked for everyone, but that's no reason to start labelling it a scam. I consider myself to be a very switched on person, with lots of drive, determination and ability, and I struggled for months with the LP before I started to understand how to use it properly. Some people get better within a few days, others it takes years, everyone is just different.

Phil Parker has redefined organic ME as stress and banned criticism of his tricky methods. He uses an array of hypnotic techniques, and crude coaching and self hypnosis (the Stop technique) taken to the level of obedience training. The standard techniques used in Lighting are obvious to those who've studied mindmethods

I had chronic fatigue for about 10 years. I was very skeptical of the Lightning Process, it was a gamble for me in many ways to attend the course, which I did last year. It worked. It took a few months but I am now free of CF. I don't use the process any more, but it really did work. I would recommend it to anyone.

I tried to share my story but received hate mail from bizarre people in the M.E world who inexplicably hate the Lightning Process. I stopped trying to share my story because I ended up feeling hounded on line by people such as the author of this video.

LP does work , if you want it to and are prepared to put the effort in and work at it......it gave me my wife back after 21/2 years suffering. yes , its a lot of money but what price can you put on re-gaining a "normal" life. what alternatives do conventional medicine offer?.....none!! dont listen to the armchair experts or whingers. (i would like to state that i am in no way connected to mr parker other than in my gratitude for getting my lively , vivacious , bright , love back!!!!)

@scubaroo What was your wife diagnosed with? Given that LP is currently being promoted as a therapy or even a cure for ME and that ME is classed as a neurological disorder which includes poor memory and loss of balance amongst its symptoms, how does LP treat symptoms like that?

@scubaroo yes your are so right! i am another success story. i am bright alive and full of health, its been a year now and i have put weight on and i look great and feel great. i am going to my brothers wedding 400 miles away at the weekend! doing a reading in front of everyone and i cant wait to meet everyone and have a great dance! life has changed completley for me since LP!

Thanks, GBCTwo. I watched part 2 and towards the end he offers his criticism of the LP. I didn't want to watch as he seemed to be just telling us about the LP which I already know. Will watch part 3 and see how that is. I don't mind the fact that he;s not a professional broadcaster. It wasn't a criticism of his style but just a concern about what his intentions were.

Is it me or is the guy in this video using NLP techniques to subtley get the names, The Lightning Process and Phil Parker into your heads so you'll be interested and find out more about it? His monotone voice and rhythm, the continued reference to the names (he doesn't have to keep repeating them) and the mention of the website.

@HearAndLove I doubt that. When I recorded the videos with Ciaran, he was not reading from autocue - he memorised a series of points and expanded upon them in front of camera. He is not a professional broadcaster of course but what you see is what you get; he is not in the greatest of health and he tends to have a slow and methodical way of doing things and if his health is worse than normal, that can impact as well.

you are supposed to do it 100s of times and it will have an effect. It appears to have worked for some people including my sister, but it hasn't had much effect on me. I still do it a few times a day, but for me it hasn't been the miracle cure they promised and that we shelled out 600 pounds before.

I had got into the habit of producing them and getting stressed by every little situation, whereas my hypothalumus was not used to producing endorphins.
The lp is a form of neural lingustic reprogramming. Whenever I have a negative thought such as "I am in pain" or "I am worried", I isolate that thought and say it out loud: "I'm in pain"
Then I shout "STOP" at the top of my voice as if 'my life depended on it'.
Then I say 'Choice: Do I want to go on being in pain, or do I want to choose

I went to the lightning process in Wales with Amir Norris, 4 years ago. He made the claim that everyone who used the process was instantly healed, a 100% success rate. It worked on my sister who went from having ME to being completely well in a matter of days. It didn't work on my mum who has mild ME, and it doesn't appear to have worked on me, although when I do the lightning process it appears to reduce the pain level. Placebo or real cure, I have no idea...

I think people need to realize that many are misdiagnosed with cfs/me... as cfs is a blanket term for _unexplained_ fatigue..
depression and many other mental illnesses get diagnosed as 'cfs' all the time. LP would be effective for these cases...and probably is.
There is also huge amounts of medical evidence that strongly go against this being a 'cure' or 'effective treatment' for ME/CFS
The most it could be for a real sufferer is councelling. Available anywhere - the scam

Do you have a web page where you outline exactly what happened on your course with Phil Parker, and how exactly the LP works? If indeed the LP is a cure for ME/CFS, there are millions of people worldwide who would be very interested in it.

The article you mention is based on the false assumption that Voodoo Deaths are caused by "Curses." It was proved some time ago that they are caused by a powerful neuro-toxin obtained from the puffer fish. The same poison was used by Voodoo priests to create "Zombies." Also a scientific article would have used the phrase "Nocebo response," not "Nocebo effect." There is no scientific evidence that The Nocebo Response actually exists. It is irrational to say, "Hot exists, because cold does."

You cited an article in The New Scientist about Voodoo to argue The Lightning Process (Trade Mark) worked due to "The Nocebo." You cannot argue that something exists because an opposite must exist. E.g. Houses exist, therefore Anti-Houses, or Unhouses must exist. Just because some people believe in the contentious construct "The Placebo", is no proof "The Nocebo" exists. Especially if non existent Voodoo magic is used as evidence of it's existence. Voodoo tricks exist, but not Voodoo magic.

@ShowalterdontlikeME no u missunderstood me, i am simply just a girl who cured herself of ME/CFS by using the lightning process. i was just saying that in the article it talked about the nocebo effect ie if you beleive that something is not beneficial or bad for you then it can effect your body. ie being told you are ill, have cancer, etc will have a pysical effect on your bodu, releasing of hormones etc. thats all.

i find it really weird how people can be in such disbelief that i did have real ME and that i am better through using the LP on myself.
surly if one is ill then one would be happy to hear that there is a very real way out. its because alot of ME people attach their whole personality and ego to their illness. i was one of them actually to a certain degree! time to let go and get healed. why hang on to the illness and rage war against those who have got cured?

I am not stuck with the idea that people cannot get better. I merely wanted answers to some questions. I asked another person who commented on part three of this series similar questions and they have not replied as yet. You seem to imply that I have an (cliche time) 'attitude'. ps i have already said to you that i had a pysical illness called ME for 12 years. i had aching all the time. sore thought, glands up, exhastion,weak legs, foggy brain( that was the hardest) allergies to most foods, sickness in the morning, headaches, light sensitive. and much more.

I a not ill any more , but when i had ME i would say i had a physical illness, using the lp on my ME cured me beacuse the mind is very powerful over the body. isnt that amazing. i didnt know that before LP and i am still amazed. thing is the proof is in the fact that i am tottally well and ok! LP certainly doesnt teach people how ME is not real it teaches you that it is very real and how you can turn it around. we are only just learning how powerful we are at healing ourselves!

I was cured from ME/CFS yes i had it for 12 years and i was very very ill with it, i had carers and i was bed bound at times. i feel like you are trying to discredit the fact that i even had ME! ofcourse i did. i went to the somerset NHS ME/CFS clinc and saw my doctor regulary! what evidence eaxtly is there that i have been conned? i am tottally well and no longer have any me/cfs!

Th people I know with neurological M.E. have become worse doing LP, not better. How can a 'therapist' who has bought a franchise and done a few hours training possibly cure a complex physical illness resulting from a retrovirus? Is Phil Parker also claiming he can cure AIDS?
I hate the way LP is advertised for free here and in the media. eg Vikki Rimmer, who has had numerous letters and articles published claiming she was cured by LP never mentioned she was Phil Parker's press agent.

Private Eye magazine Issue number 1248Page 10, 'Legal News ' section this week, writes that ME sufferers who have posted their views on the Lightning Process that they had paid £600 for, and which did not work, have received warnings of defamation proceedings if they did not recant.
Phil Parker has shown his true colors.
No one should give the cynical greedy businessman Parker the time of day.
Parker denies that Lightning has made many people with ME more ill. Disgraceful.

I'm not sure I'd refer to it as a "scam" but I think what Ciaran is asking for is a little more transparency. Recently there has been some promotion of LP amongst the M.E. 'community' (recent examples being the RSM conference and the APPG services inquiry) and according to the people who sung its praises, it has given them new lives. However, there are many out there that are sceptical.

My sister tried the Lightning Process in desperation.. She was mildly affected but the 3days of attending and trying the ineffective treatment gave her a huge relapse as it did 3 other friends that she met on the course.
They were all so upset that they had been duped and tricked in their desperation into wasting £550 and being made allot worse!

i would go for the lightning process, its the best 560 i ever spent and i am not rich lol. i will never look back, i am not a newage white wash kinda person far from it. and it really worked for me. i hade ME for 12 years and i was really ill. my life is just getting better and better. thanks to this channel for allowing this debate thought it should be talked about. my trainer NEVER said dont talk about it.
