I can't believe how fanatical Ron Paul supporters are, so far I have heard them lie, twist truth, and cherry pick information to support their extreme views, Ron paul said "They attacked us because we've been over there, we've been bombing iraq for 10 years." Net Neutrality and an unregulated internet are to very different and opposite things. As a mater of fact, Net Neutrality is a government program and mandate concerning the internet.
In line with Ron's politics, maybe it would be up to us to boycott? If consumers just exercised their right to not buy something, to protest or compete, corporations would fall to their knees. If we stuck to the Constitution as written, we would have: no federal meddling in our schools; no Federal Reserve; no U. S. membership in the U.N.; no gun control; and no foreign aid. We would have no welfare for big corporations. "No American troops in 100 foreign countries; no Nafta, GATT, or "fast-track"; no arrogant federal judges usurping states rights; no attacks on private property; and no income tax.
I just recieved an e-mail from the Paul campaign. It is costing his campaign 25,000 dollars just to participate in tonight's debate. PLEASE DONATE! Even a single dollar will help. Or if you really can't spare a dollar, just go to w w w (dot)searchronpaul(dot)com and use it as your search engine as much as possible. It's a google based engine and for every click through, the revenue goes directly to Dr. Paul's campaign. Please, let's get Dr. Paul the credit he deserves as a candidate.
Ron Paul is the only one that is willing to carry the torch of liberty into the future. Ron Paul is pro constitution all the way! Let the word go out and spread like a wildfire. "From the east to the west blow the trumpet to arms! Through the land let the sound of it flee; Let the far and the near all unite, with a cheer, In defense of our Liberty Tree."
"The Force is very strong in this one. Dr. Paul is a physician that seeks to determine the causes and cures for diseases, rather than to create new diseases and prolong them. It's a quite different paradigm than the vast majority of all those attorneys that he's surrounded by in Washington. In my view, he's essentially a Thomas Jefferson, reincarnate. Liberty is his mantra and Freedom is his heart." -- Koby Brandt
--I'm thrilled that this video has encouraged discussion! Although I made the video (and part of the music), I'm just learning about all these issues too--I'm just quoting from an article--beyond the specifics, Ron Paul certainly has gained the respect of the internet community--after all, he took the time to plug the internet and its freedom in the debate.
He plugged it, but is fighting to let the providers control your content. The internet isn't cable television. It was designed for everyone to use in daily life as they wanted to as long as they don't break the law. Let's not forget Youtube, MySpace, and other sites you use and Ron Paul are campaigning on are products of a free and open net, where nobody can regulate the content. Can you see Ron Paul's message getting out without net neutrality?
You are right that we need a free 'net, but since when does freedom need a rulebook? Suppose for a second, that my cable internet provider did (try) to block my access to YouTube.
1) Everyone would scream bloody blue murder.
2) A million (and one) mirrors would go up.
3) I would switch to DSL or wireless.
*We* are the best defense of net neutrality. We don't need a law.
If that were the case, we'd have no problems. Everyone wold be getting paid a livable wage, have affordable health care, and affordable gas. I guess it is the people's choice to be making bad wages and not be able to afford health care, because big business cannot possibly be run by greed and we'd just all starve out of protest. Libertarians have few answers for me.
"A less obvious winner was Rep. Ron Paul, a Texas Republican who represents a rural district along the Gulf Coast that's home to few Web 2.0 start-ups but plenty of cattle ranchers and petrochemical companies. He topped the House rankings with a score of 80 percent, narrowly besting two Northern California Democrats."
I love how they depict "corporate media" as the enemy in this video but that is what Ron Paul is about, protecting the corporate run media and now make it so corporations run the internet. That's why he opposes Net Neutrality. He is not a libertarian, he is a Republican. If he was a Libertarian, he'd run as a Libertarian. He is far more Republican than Libertarian.
Net Neutrality is socialist, not libertarian. Ron Paul believes that it is not the place of the government to dictate what content travels over the lines or how it is prioritized. He basically wants Congress to keep its hands completely off the Internet.
Also keep in mind that Ron Paul would get rid of corporate welfare and laws which prevent you and I from competing with existing providers. Consumers would then have a greater choice of ISPs.
That is not what net neutrality is! It is to keep EVERYONE'S hands off of the internet. Nobody should dictate what is on the internet. Not even big business. A greater choice of ISP's maybe, but with them managing the net's content for us. If that's Libertarianism, then I want no part of it. Please stop mischaracterizing net neutrality though. It is to keep the net neutral.
Net neutrality is _not_ to keep everyone's hands off the Internet. It is not a libertarian policy, it is a socialist policy of government intervention in the market. You need to research this issue further because you have it completely backward.
I'd say the same about you. I never said it was a Libertarian Policy and I sure don't think that Libertarians have the answer to everything. This is proof of that. It is a government policy pushed and supported by many internet content producers to keep their content from being regulated by greedy people that currently cannot regulate it. Corporations want the speed up sites that pay for it and slow down those that don't.
But the companies who own their respective parts of the Internet have the right to speed up or slow down whatever they like - it's their service. If you don't like it, you are free to stop purchasing their service. The kind of regulation in the Net Neutrality language is the kind that violates freedom. It's like telling a grocery store how fast they have to get you through the checkout line. It's _their store_ - if they want to take an hour, they can. You don't have to shop there.
I didn't realized that they owned the internet. I thought they were a provider. That was never the purpose of the internet. At least the truth finally comes out. It's to benefit corporations, not the people. "It's not a truck...It's a series of tubes!" LOL
Sure they can slow down the net, as long as it is slowed down equally for all websites. Net neutrality facilitates freedom of speech ans expression. Targeted slow downs to certain websites constitutes monopolistic, anti-competitive behaviour.
I don't need to buy gas either. I can just not go anywhere. I don't need to get health care because it is too expensive to afford, or work because the minimum wage is too low. Government control is bad, big business is good. This is true in every instance.
Walking is impractical. As far as health care goes, today is today and yesterday was yesterday. People need work and sometimes have to take what they can get. I'm all about ending corporate welfare. Let's encourage the free market but not encourage people to get off of welfare. Good jobs and health care might do that.
Walking is perfectly practical. People lived just fine before the automobile. If you want the poor to have the luxury of health care, you have the right to be charitable, NOT to take from others to donate what isn't yours. If someone is so desperate for a job that he will work for 2 dollars an hour, he clearly finds that small amount of money preferable to going without it. We shouldn't encourage people to get off welfare. We should end it, and leave it to private charity.
On the contrary, I think libertarian views follow impeccable logic, because they stem from some very easily stated fundamental axioms. Essentially liberty is the fundamental human right. Socialist arguments can easily be turned around. For instance, you think it's okay to regulate a private business. Okay, how about we regulate what clothes you are allowed to wear? Not good then is it? Libertarians are consistent.
That would be great and all expect, well, I'm not a socialist. I don't label capitalists as fascists so please show some respect and not sink so low. It is OK to regulate a private business in certain cases, like violating laws, human rights, and trapping consumers. The rest of the time it is hands off. It's great that he plugs the internet. Now if he'll only fight for it instead of the providers and allowing THEM to regulate it then I'll start giving him some respect.
OutSTANDING! G-d you guys are good! Did anyone here happen to log onto Politico(dot)com and register to post questions for the upcoming debates? Please do so this evening before its too late. Dr. Paul is KILL'N 'em with grassroots support, ie great questions, revealing suppositions etc. Lastly, and something I found shocking... whilst on the politico site I downloaded a 'helpful' (NOT) guide to the '08 Presidential candidates. RON PAUL wasn't even LISTED. Please send your support.
Please use the exponential power of the internet and email , blog , post , email , email , !!!!!!!!!!!! share dang it don't just comment but act!!! this will happen.
The only Presidential candidate that is willing to limit/end the FED. Reserve is RON PAUL. It will take the most incredible grass roots movement to get Ron in office. I believe it possible if we use the internet as our primary tool. Use the exponential power of the web 1. goto freedomtofascism & ronpaul2008 websites to sign up. 2.Send this links and videos to everyone you know. He needs the power of the people. We would have no welfare for big corporations. "No American troops in 100 foreign countries; no Nafta, GATT, or "fast-track"; no arrogant federal judges usurping states rights; no attacks on private property; and no income tax.

Ron Paul for President 2008
misfitt13888 4 years ago

~ Thomas Paine

"The Force is very strong in this one. Dr. Paul is a physician that seeks to determine the causes and cures for diseases, rather than to create new diseases and prolong them. It's a quite different paradigm than the vast majority of all those attorneys that he's surrounded by in Washington. In my view, he's essentially a Thomas Jefferson, reincarnate. Liberty is his mantra and Freedom is his heart." -- Koby Brandt

--I'm thrilled that this video has encouraged discussion! Although I made the video (and part of the music), I'm just learning about all these issues too--I'm just quoting from an article--beyond the specifics, Ron Paul certainly has gained the respect of the internet community--after all, he took the time to plug the internet and its freedom in the debate.
radiofriendly 4 years ago
He plugged it, but is fighting to let the providers control your content. The internet isn't cable television. It was designed for everyone to use in daily life as they wanted to as long as they don't break the law. Let's not forget Youtube, MySpace, and other sites you use and Ron Paul are campaigning on are products of a free and open net, where nobody can regulate the content. Can you see Ron Paul's message getting out without net neutrality?
scholarwarrior 4 years ago
You are right that we need a free 'net, but since when does freedom need a rulebook? Suppose for a second, that my cable internet provider did (try) to block my access to YouTube.
1) Everyone would scream bloody blue murder.
2) A million (and one) mirrors would go up.
3) I would switch to DSL or wireless.
*We* are the best defense of net neutrality. We don't need a law.
TechsArcana 4 years ago
If that were the case, we'd have no problems. Everyone wold be getting paid a livable wage, have affordable health care, and affordable gas. I guess it is the people's choice to be making bad wages and not be able to afford health care, because big business cannot possibly be run by greed and we'd just all starve out of protest. Libertarians have few answers for me.

From Cnet last fall on internet freedom...
newsDOTcomDOTcomFSLASH2009-1040-6131719DOThtml
"CNET News voter's guide"
"A less obvious winner was Rep. Ron Paul, a Texas Republican who represents a rural district along the Gulf Coast that's home to few Web 2.0 start-ups but plenty of cattle ranchers and petrochemical companies. He topped the House rankings with a score of 80 percent, narrowly besting two Northern California Democrats."
GuyPinestra 4 years ago
I love how they depict "corporate media" as the enemy in this video but that is what Ron Paul is about, protecting the corporate run media and now make it so corporations run the internet. That's why he opposes Net Neutrality. He is not a libertarian, he is a Republican. If he was a Libertarian, he'd run as a Libertarian. He is far more Republican than Libertarian.
scholarwarrior 4 years ago
Net Neutrality is socialist, not libertarian. Ron Paul believes that it is not the place of the government to dictate what content travels over the lines or how it is prioritized. He basically wants Congress to keep its hands completely off the Internet.
Also keep in mind that Ron Paul would get rid of corporate welfare and laws which prevent you and I from competing with existing providers. Consumers would then have a greater choice of ISPs.
phutureb 4 years ago
That is not what net neutrality is! It is to keep EVERYONE'S hands off of the internet. Nobody should dictate what is on the internet. Not even big business. A greater choice of ISP's maybe, but with them managing the net's content for us. If that's Libertarianism, then I want no part of it. Please stop mischaracterizing net neutrality though. It is to keep the net neutral.
scholarwarrior 4 years ago
scholarwarrior:
Net neutrality is _not_ to keep everyone's hands off the Internet. It is not a libertarian policy, it is a socialist policy of government intervention in the market. You need to research this issue further because you have it completely backward.
thebrokenladder 4 years ago
I'd say the same about you. I never said it was a Libertarian Policy and I sure don't think that Libertarians have the answer to everything. This is proof of that. It is a government policy pushed and supported by many internet content producers to keep their content from being regulated by greedy people that currently cannot regulate it. Corporations want the speed up sites that pay for it and slow down those that don't.
scholarwarrior 4 years ago
But the companies who own their respective parts of the Internet have the right to speed up or slow down whatever they like - it's their service. If you don't like it, you are free to stop purchasing their service. The kind of regulation in the Net Neutrality language is the kind that violates freedom. It's like telling a grocery store how fast they have to get you through the checkout line. It's _their store_ - if they want to take an hour, they can. You don't have to shop there.
thebrokenladder 4 years ago
I didn't realized that they owned the internet. I thought they were a provider. That was never the purpose of the internet. At least the truth finally comes out. It's to benefit corporations, not the people. "It's not a truck...It's a series of tubes!" LOL
scholarwarrior 4 years ago
Sure they can slow down the net, as long as it is slowed down equally for all websites. Net neutrality facilitates freedom of speech ans expression. Targeted slow downs to certain websites constitutes monopolistic, anti-competitive behaviour.

I don't need to buy gas either. I can just not go anywhere. I don't need to get health care because it is too expensive to afford, or work because the minimum wage is too low. Government control is bad, big business is good. This is true in every instance.
scholarwarrior 4 years ago
> I don't need to buy gas either.
Or walk, just like we have done for most of human history.
> I don't need to get health care...
Health care is a modern luxury. The poor are better off today than the rich have traditionally been.
> or work because the minimum wage is too low.
A worker always works at a wage that he and his employer agree is fair.
> Government control is bad, big business is good.
Libertarians want to end corporate welfare.
thebrokenladder 4 years ago
Walking is impractical. As far as health care goes, today is today and yesterday was yesterday. People need work and sometimes have to take what they can get. I'm all about ending corporate welfare. Let's encourage the free market but not encourage people to get off of welfare. Good jobs and health care might do that.
scholarwarrior 4 years ago
Walking is perfectly practical. People lived just fine before the automobile. If you want the poor to have the luxury of health care, you have the right to be charitable, NOT to take from others to donate what isn't yours. If someone is so desperate for a job that he will work for 2 dollars an hour, he clearly finds that small amount of money preferable to going without it. We shouldn't encourage people to get off welfare. We should end it, and leave it to private charity.
thebrokenladder 4 years ago
Sorry, but that's kinda messed up logic. I'm glad I'm not a Libertarian then.
scholarwarrior 4 years ago
On the contrary, I think libertarian views follow impeccable logic, because they stem from some very easily stated fundamental axioms. Essentially liberty is the fundamental human right. Socialist arguments can easily be turned around. For instance, you think it's okay to regulate a private business. Okay, how about we regulate what clothes you are allowed to wear? Not good then is it? Libertarians are consistent.
thebrokenladder 4 years ago
That would be great and all expect, well, I'm not a socialist. I don't label capitalists as fascists so please show some respect and not sink so low. It is OK to regulate a private business in certain cases, like violating laws, human rights, and trapping consumers. The rest of the time it is hands off. It's great that he plugs the internet. Now if he'll only fight for it instead of the providers and allowing THEM to regulate it then I'll start giving him some respect.
scholarwarrior 4 years ago
Regardless of whether your libertarian or not if you want your rights back you gotta go with paul.

Mike Gravel or Ron Paul both will bring the same results. I just read that ron paul voted NO for net neutrality however which makes me wonder why...?
snipboy 4 years ago
something about funding or gov't manipulating -- I'll try to find a Ron Paul response...

Probably because he is referring to protecting the internet for the providers, not the average joe.

Look at the jump in his poll numbers on MSNBC since the debate, yet they still declare Romney the winner?
