SBJ is definetly a chi kung set. Like all chi kung it can be soft or hard. This is a softer version - I like it. Most of the time people playing that form look like Arnold Swhartzennegger trying to lift a mountain. But it doesn't have to be that way at all.
It is actually a set of concepts and techniques and where actions are practiced with breathing, hence the qigong factor. The motions need to be natural to allow the energy to flow. You often see Westerners doing external kung fu or Karate, and they look like they're straining themselves with constipation.
This is the first Chow Gar Southern Mantis form. Each movement has multiple fighting applications. It also helps in developing the short range power which Southern Mantis is known.
It's all about developing the short range power. Take one of the techniques from it and put it in an entirely different context, then train it differently and yes, it probably does have multiple fighting applications.
The movement I make to open my fridge has multiple fighting applications too, although sadly lacks the ging creation SBJ has. ;)
The guy's 'train as you fight' comment doesn't really apply to this form - it's chi-gung, not a fighting form. You're mean't to train it as slow as possible, much like this guy is doing here. Hell, according to the head of the system, it's meditation.
nice i liked that he looked very focused and alot of emotional content
