My sister and I used to like to get the magnifying glass out of our mother's desk drawer and take our crayons outside. We'd get old scrap wood from our dad's stash of scraps in the garage. We'd peel back the paper off the crayons and use the magnifying glass to melt the crayons into the wood and make melted crayon wax drawings that way. We'd spend hours doing this. To this day the small of melted crayon is one of my favorites.
When I was a child my mother babysat children in our home. She had all kinds of toys and activities for me and my brother and all the kids she cared for. Being frugal (in part because she was born during the middle of the Depression) she never threw away anything. She took a clean old bleach bottle with a handle, cut out part of the side near the top, & when crayons became too small to put back in a box they went into the "crayon jug". Over the years it became FULL! Just right for little hands

When I was young, we didn't have alot of money, so we always went to a church and got stuff for school and the one thing that I couldn't wait to get was that box of crayons, all those beautiful colors. Now I can buy the big box with even more color. I even have a quilt that was done with crayons.

I remember having coloring contests with my girlfriend, we'd have her big brother choose the best one...I never won, but kept trying :)
