  • I may have said it before, because i have been watching this video for 3 years, but this is THE BEST thing on YouTube. This was always one of my favorite tunes from my extensive collection of dead music, and i could not believe it when I found a video recording of it about 3 years ago. Thank you, rhcoopah.

  • i miss captain trips

  • this one always kills me... a toast to ol' Jerry.

  • Best wishes to all from Less Than Face Productions.

  • One of the latter day Jerry/Hunter greats...just a few chords but he made it his own. I'm sure Bob didn't mind that the whole S M R chorus is a twin of the chorus of Kockin' on Heaven's Door.

    Still missin'im!

  • My friend Chad watches this 3 X a week !!

  • Jerry took the last road to heal his soul forever. We love you Jerry and miss you terribly.

  • I enjoy this song, i catch spine shiver listening to it. Something about this song! So many roads to heal my soul.

  • getting my Jerry on to pay tribute to the Skipper, he was a hell of a guy who led us all down "so many roads"

now im just trying to "ease my soul" as i remember the man

You will live on skipper in our memories

    T.C.

  • Boston Garden. 9/20/91-10/3/94. 18 show. 36 complete sets..All video masters.

Best wishes to all from Less Than Face Productions.

  • Jerry looks like he is about to die ....Oh wait, at this point he is!

  • @AntipastaTrey youre a fag

  • @AntipastaTrey not cool. it didn't stop him from making this beautiful music share the love

  • HOLY CRAP! I was in Row 36 on the floor for this show. This was my 1st exposure to this song...thanks...

  • what date? love the camera work on this

  • @BladeofGrassMusic 10/1/94 Boston Gardens, He was wailing allnight long. Fire and the Stella Blue he's yelling praticlly. That fall tour I started to feel something wasn't right. It was like his fingers were not doing what the music was telling them to do. So he took that energy and It came out in his vocals.

  • @hippycouple2 it's a great version, I will seek out more from the same show I love 93-95 shows

  • Tranquility achieved................. ;-)

  • beautiful

  • Watch this video every morning and you will have a better day. Easily replaces one or two cups of coffee.

  • Maybe one of those puppies really is yer son. I mean the dreads, the bo. the starry eyes.... the possibilities are endless. FInd a road and make it yours - some have white lines some have yellow lines and some have no sidewalks at all some have white lights, some have orange lights; rich with traffic light; poor with gas light a little bit of GD today and little bit of GD tonight' how do they decide wher to place those signs when you dotted your lines and pushed pedestrian buttons..
  • Any road that takes you back to pre-95 must be darn good road.

  • POPEYE LUV YOU

  • A taste of Mapquest perhaps; the one that says SHAKEDOWN STREET

    in Victoria Australia;

  • The pure emotion of Jerry and the heartfelt lyrics bring this night full circle...it had it all, from the opening,Help>Slip>Frank to SMR`s to Scarlet>Fire,Terrapin and Stella Blue..all of which surrpass the limits of joy that they bring!..I sat Phil-side,and danced an empty row up high, and solidly made a spot in my heart for Boston that Oct.1`94.

  • i agree...heady!!!!

  • @JJETTE7 Boston Garden 10/1/94

  • check out 9.18.94; as good as 10.1 is; the vocals and towering crescendo at the end of 9.18 easily beats it!!! it's slower pace of the song, but really builds. i was lucky enough to be front row dead center at shoreline that night thanks to GD ticketing!

  • Nothing like ol Jer. Miss him!

  • 10/1/94 The greatest show I ever saw!!!! This was definately a diamond in gems that got played that night!!!

  • Too great to say anything else about it. Just listen and dream....

  • unfrigginbelievable. while i have a sentimental attachment to the final one from soldiers field, this admittedly is probably the best.

  • happy birthday you ole scallywag !

  • SO MANY RAODS TO HEAL MY SOUL !!!!!

  • Out of the 27 shows I saw,and out of the handful that contained this tune.I must say..this rendition is the most heartfelt and soulful of them all.Jerry performs with a passion during this, that I had never witnessed before. It was magical! It`s also a one of a kind version.Jer swapped,"EASE,"With,"HEAL,"and that alone...makes this one, hard to top!Jerry looks to be sining,as if he had written this ballad about his own"struggles"

  • thanks!

  • Very nice....

  • Every time I hear Jerry play (sing) this song, I get butterflies inside, my head gets that rush that happens just before tears well up in my eyes & yes the tears come. Fuck do I miss Jerry so so so much. I'm a hopeless fan...

  • @TheTedthehead me too

  • I love this song.

  • This is by far my favorite version of this song...of course, when I say "this song", what I mean is the repeated refrain at the end(ditto SOTM). Many Heads point to 9/18/94, and I understand why, but Jerry's vocal in this version (10/1/94) is simply astonishing in its strength and conviction. I've heard it a few hundred times, and I'm still blown away. The section from 5:43 through 6:15 is the most moving singing I've ever heard from ANYONE! EVER! His voice is what can never be replaced.

  • @BillyDaMountain Yo - check out the "So Many Roads" from 6/23/92 Starlake sometime. Another incredible Jerry vocal. 10/1/94 is great, too, but I like 6/23/92 better.

  • @btrhea1 jus' checked it out...damn!...another stunning, unique, inspiring, and moving gut-punch of a vocal outro...many thanx, my friend...I hadn't heard that one. The variations between different versions of this song's outro are fascinating. Amazing how the Starlake version was just weeks before his illness...and still so powerful. RIP JG

  • @BillyDaMountain Glad you dug it! It's always been a personal favorite of mine. Jerry KILLS it on that one. It was a brand new tune at the time, too!

  • Comment removed

  • @BillyDaMountain I never got to see them until 7/29/94 Buckeye Lake... but then went crazy for them. Saw the final 3 Shoreline shows (Gyuoto Monks!), among my 12 total. Good times! We're the same age, by the way. Ha!

  • In the process of digitizing my GD tape collection. Just the other day I was listening to the last dead show. This song makes the hair on my arms stand up. Especially thinking of this song in the last show and playing the moment over in my head of Jerry throwing his fist up in the air! Just got the chills again!

  • Oh my,how he "healed my soul."I love how Jerry twisted the words and put "healed"in place of "ease."Had to be a method of reasoning behind such lyrics,he knew what he was saying. And the way he yells it out to us,with such heart....he healed alot of souls that walked the roads wherever the Grateful Dead traveled.

  • where is this from???

  • the boys were on it that night! miss you so much jerry.

  • What's always amazed me about Jerry was the fact that he was probably the most Beloved Hispanic of all time!

  • goosebumps when i hear this. I was at this show in boston...amazing! looks as though jerry smiled when hot those notes

  • It's always interesting to see such outpouring of love and affection for Jerry Garcia. It has always been that way with Jerry, he was just that kind of guy.

  • Pure Jerry! Good to see him playing Lightning Bolt as well!

  • beautiful

  • goosebumps, such a great song, superb performance

  • r.i.p. mike smart we all know u had so many roads teased ur soul ,,,,,,wow can any1 see this in 69 or 76???? ya thought so ..post jers last smr or boston 94 2ed best vers to 95

  • @TheYankees2300 the lyrics are not so many roads teased my soul. its: so many roads to ease my soul. how could you thing otherwise?

  • @silentdreemz85

Listen to the song. From 5:00 on he is singing "So many roads to heal my soul" not ease. Written lyrics are one thing but what he is saying is another.

  • go jerry from ocdeadbrian

  • Ohh! The saddest, tenderest, joyful heart.

    To heal my soul.

So fortunate to have heard this.

So glad it's here for now and future ears.

  • 10-1-94? Boston

  • yes, definitely.

  • This video will always take me down so many roads to fond memories of Jerry.

  • This song is simply the essence of Jerry. Unbelievable version. Thanks for posting!

  • God I miss Jerry! God Bless You Poppa Bear!

  • One of the top three versions of So Many Roads, maybe # 1. 10/1/94, Boston Garden. This whole show is excellent, probably the best of '94.

  • Great video!

  • Thanks for this one........Peace and Love All

  • i feel like the immense amount of love and good energy jerry (and people like him) put out into the world helped (and help) to balance out the bad energy like greed and fear, that is obviously very present in our daily, societal lives. thats why me and my fellow deadheads miss him so much; we miss this energy he put out into the world.

but it didnt leave when he died, because he simply transcended this plane of existence. he and it are always here; we just cant perceive them.

    love life always

  • july 95. remember it like it was yesterday, but barely.

  • WHAT YEAR IS THIS 94,5?

  • @JERRUNCLE 1994

  • so many roads to ease my soul...

  • Great show...I miss Jerry & the Old Boston Garden. Best place to see a concert.

  • If loving this is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

  • Having a shitty day.

Came to youtube, searched jerry and was taken to this masterpiece.

    We are so spoiled.

  • @bkobes14

  • @bkobes14 i always listen to this song and it brings me into a great mood.

  • Missing Jerry ....AllI want is one to Lead me Home.....

  • I wish I could

  • what he lost in age he gained in soul

  • So sweet !

    Oh, Jerry........

  • Amazing! I miss Jerry!

  • thought I heard a jug band play...... over on the far side of the hill

  • Definitely one of the top 3 versions of this masterpiece. It's a tight version with few miscues and the vocal finale is just sick. Musically and emotionally tip top. So much soul.

  • The entire show(10/1/94) is available to all courtesy of Less Than Face Productions. Mahalo.

  • Thanks, I needed that.

  • RIP Jerry!!!!!

  • Oh man, what great footage of THE man!! His voice is just full of emotion, and love, and he makes you feel it. Shed a tear for jerry, he truely made the world a better place.

  • just dont get much better than that I was 18 years old in "89" and boy did I enjoy life and DEAD. life has been a long strange trip.

  • LET GO LET JERRY I still miss HIM TOO CAPTON TRIPS LIVES IN THE HARTS AND SOULS OF THE BROTHERS &SISTERS HE TOUCH HE MADE US DANCE TILL ARE FEET HURT HE MADE US FEEL NO MY LOVE WILL NOT FADE AWAY

  • Belting it out... 5:50-6:00. Ah, there's just something about a Jerry ballad...

  • I love how he changes the verses from other performances. Wonderful tune

  • Cool! Is there any more video from this show? Would love to see video of the super-fun 'Fire on the Mountain"..."Talkin' 'bout on the MOUNTAAIN!

  • jerry's tunes almost always masterpieces in his last years.if you didn't see jerry several times you'll never truly know.

  • This song gives such (((HeadY))) vibes. i have jerry garcia in my head (just like in halfbaked) 24/7. even if i wanted to stop listening to the dead it will still be playin my head.

  • i would be so grateful if anyone could post "days between" thanx

  • yeah everyone thinks us youngens were born after jerry passed but the tuth is - im only 30 and i saw 3 shows with jerry- and then u have all the kids that went- to be honest most youngsters at least me and my friends we didnt know anything about the dead besides the commercial songs played on the radio we had just started experimenting with drugs, herb, and thats y we went and i fell in love with everything about the shows- mostly the music but just as musch the people - the lots

  • SWEET Sounds for us all to enjoy on So Many Roads

  • I'm pretty sure this was from 10/1/94. It was one of the greatest moments of my musical life. The passion and energy Jerry puts in this version is amazing. RIP, Jerry. I still miss your ass...

  • its amazing how a person i never saw or met could be such a big part of my life. Jerry, my brother.. Miss you man.. big time

  • This was one of the great later day songs

    that jerry and hunter wrote.

Jerry plays with such power and truth that

you can tell it comes from the heart.

THANK YOU FOR A REAL GOOD TIME.

  • I found the AUD of this show a few years back...this SMR always gave me intense goosebumps.

Amazing...perhaps the best ever. I love that man.

  • this vid sends chills down my spine. amazing.

    rip jerry

  • What a treat to see this. This night was amazing and warrants a cd/dvd release if those folks at Rhino get their act together. When will they post more from this night? (((((((Stella Blue)))))))

  • This song only gets better as time passes. From living in Colorado in the mid 90's when I'd drive 500 miles on a day-long road trip (over bluebird hill near Divide, CO) to driving countless miles where I now live Alaska (in the land of midnight sun where the ice-blue roses grow) this song is always on hand and only becomes more powerful to me over time. Thanks, Jerry.

  • this has always been one of my favorite renderings of SMRoads! Thankyou for the post...other than the one in Albany95 i witnessed, this one is wicked clear and REAL! GodBless! Pete

  • I've was born in 82. I'm sorry to say i've never been to a concert but my parents have. I just got sirius radio in my car for my birthday and I have to say listening to all the live music on the Grateful dead channel is awesome. I think some of their best music was done live.

  • Perhaps the best version of this song I've heard...

  • I was at this show, we stayed at a friends dorm room in Boston proper, still dont think he and roomies knew what was going on. one of the best times ever had, 10-01-94. tear down the boston garden the next night rocked too.....if I had my way....I would tear this ol' building down....

  • This is from 10/1/94 I believe.

  • It is amazing to me to see young people (who were born after Jerry's passing) into the Grateful Dead. I think it is wonderful. I saw Jerry over 100 times. With the Grateful Dead and solo. I will share one vivid memory: I remember crying my eyes out listing to Jerry play the solo to Row Jimmy in 1990. The Dead were truly magical. That magic will never die. I am eternally Grateful.

  • Row Jimmy was special. Seems like a common way to go!

  • i am 15 years old and the only dead concert i saw was in 93 when i was 5 weeks old and when i watch this i just cant beleive i missed out on jerrys life. i wish i could remember

  • 13 yrs today!!!

  • WoW! Jerry's passion for the music never ceases to amaze me!One of the best endings of any jerry song, in any era, EVER!

  • Does anybody know which version in deadbase was voted best "so many roads" ? cause this is a great version!!!

  • oh my god!!! priceless!!!

  • Madison Square Garden. Anyone have the Soldier Field show?

  • Now this is a truly EPIC version of this song. Possibly the best ending I've ever heard/seen. Thank you so much for posting.

  • We miss you Jerry...

  • Does anyone find it interesting that this VIDEO exists. I mean...look at it for crying out loud.

  • bringing it down at the 6:57 minute literally gave me chills.....rest in peace big guy.

  • Amazing vocal climax. Reminds me of the '94 versions of Stella Blue from Auburn Hills and Richfield... amazing stuff!

  • Thanks to Less Than Face productions for another wonderful video release from the vault!

  • not enough words to justify....sends chills down your spine

  • This is from 10/1/94 and easily the best version I have ever heard. Listen closely... this is the first version where Jerry croons 'So Many Roads to HEAL my soul...' The energy in the Garden was INSANE!!!

  • Where is this recorded?

    Good version.

  • This is one of my favorite songs that Jerry did during the last few years of his life. Some versions are unbelievable. This one is ok, not great. Try getting a hold of the Atlanta Omni 1993 version. Classic

  • Ok, not great? WTF are you on?

This is the best SMR. Jer is practically howling at the end there, it's fuckin' awesome.

  • Check out the 6-26-94 version..a little cleaner. This one is more passionate. You can really feel for Jerry. He knew the end of his life was near..i've listened to countless hours of the dead and this tune was chilling to say the least..RIP Jerry!

  • Just listened to it- major flubs and I wasn't that impressed overall...

I like this version MUCH better and I'm only a minute in...
