If I would have been there I would have confronted the manager and let him know that what he was doing was wrong and I wasn't going to give any business to his establishment anymore.
The manager of this place is just a hateful bigot... and probably a racist. Not only were they lesbian, but they were black... so probably both were a factor. I would not be surprised.
Next thing is, anyone notice them being watched RUDLEY the whole entire time they were being "sexual"?
They had a problem with the couple long before it got "sexual". Assholes just wanted them to stop being them. The issue is that they were who they were. Thats it.
The Tastee homophobes do not know when to stop. "They engaged in X-rated behavior!"... because there was that head on that shoulder and a friendly hug. They just proved that they did indeed break the law.
TraderNorton, you are obviously a RACIST, HOMOPHOBIC, BIGOT incapable of expressing ANY opinion on this issue without resorting to HATE speech!. My advice to you would be to remove your post and go someplace where others share your pathetic point of view!
And I don't like homophobes. But even if you, a known homophobe, walks into a place I control, I would not kick you out just for being a homophobe (because it would be, you know, ILLEGAL) unless you actually did something worthy of kicking you out.
Yeah, i may not like faggots. but your a Racist, You would get run to the ground around here bud. Go back to typing away at your keyboard as if you know what life is about. Faggot. Nuff said.
I'm a racist? Based on what, exactly? It would be quite rich for me to be a racist considering I'm Asian-Swedish and have actually faced racism myself.
I seem to be the lone voice with the following POV: Tastee was within its rights to stop ANY couple from such a lingering and overt PDA. In this case, the couple happened to be both lesbian and black; two eternal hotbutton minority statuses. It's a wonder the complaining bulldaggers did not claim race discrimination too. It fits in with the current culture of victimhood. Really, the lines between acceptable public and private behavior continue to erode.
One problem, the couple claims a straight couple were actively making out in the restaurant at the same time. They were not asked to leave. This couple was.
It's private property. The owner or owners pay the bills at that property no different than a home owner pays their own property bills. No one is forcing anyone to eat or hang out there. If you don't care for the service or atmosphere then eat at an establishment whose owners you like and whose atmosphere makes you feel comfortable. No one has a right to force their values on another, especially on their own property.
Tastee Diner thinks this is inappropriate? How often do I see hetero couples just hanging all over each other in public establishments!? Tastee Diner, you'd save yourselves a LOT of hassle by just apologizing for your bigoted treatment of these folks and getting on with things.
And to say that Tastee is a family restaurant and these women's behaviour would offend people is disingenious at best considering that I highly doubt that too many kids would be out dining at 2 am.
Is Tastee serious? This is tame compared to what I see the high school kids doing on the subway in L.A. everyday! I'm glad this came to light because I hope everyone decides to BOYCOTT this restaurant and any business that would brazenly practice discrimination against any group of people.
(cont.) I can't imagine more "tasteful" behavior by a tired couple. It was friggin sweet unless you hate lesbians or black lesbians (I'm white btw). Or are such a loser (mgr) that you need to exercise the only "power" in life you have. HORRIBLE. I'll never go in Tastee Diner again and, like many others, am posting this all over Facebook. Of all the late-night diner couple touching that goes on, THIS warrants ousting them? Bigoted mgr & total ignoramus owners/general mgr. Total outrage.
I'm stil so pissed about this, the original incident and then Tastee's response, including the unbelievable description posted with this video. I was expecting so much worse from these ladies and all I saw were two tired patrons leaning on each other and being close, like you would hope any loving couple would be. Their loving behavior should be celebrated, not falsely said to be sexual. I can't tell you how many times I have and have seen others rest on each other's shoulders and chests.
I'm curious, now that you are in the face of a disgruntled customer what do you plan to do to fix this public case of discrimination? A wise business would take measures to regain the trust of the disgruntled customer and the public to lessen any further harm to the business.
The Tastee Diner has been claiming in other news quotes that this was "X-rated" behaviour. I hope they get sued for defamation. I can't believe these Tastee Diner fools actually think this video of a sweet hug actually helps their case. That fact alone proves how biased they are against gay people.
As a business owner myself you would be terminated for bringing this much negative attention as a manager to an other wise untarnished record. BONEHEAD.
From this video nobody seemed to be concerned except the manager. What a bonehead decision to make as a manager or owner of a business to ask a customer to leave that isn't disgruntled or disruptive to other customers. You have lost their business forever and this is an impact situation so they wont be the only customers you lose. The concept of business is to draw satisfied customers not run them away.
I cant believe you have not apologized and got fired the manager and thought that this video would vindicate you raciest, homophobic behavior. You should be ashamed of yourself, I live right down the street and I will make sure that I never set foot in your diner and will tell everyone I know. Montgomery has a anti discrimination law that includes sexual preference, I hope you get sued.
I was in the airport in Denver last month and a straight couple was on the floor RIGHT NEXT to the gate, the woman straddled the man VERY INAPPROPRIATELY and they frenched kissed in broad daylight in front of kids where everyone could see--disgusting. Nobody said a thing. This behavior DOESN'T EVEN COME CLOSE to that display.
Watching this again, that manager's behavior was digusting---he obviously said something to them the first time he hovered by them, then it looks like he basically went over by them for 2-3 minutes until they would leave. DISGUSTING. This is clearly a case of f***ing homophobic bigot doing something that he should be fired for doing.
It's hysterical that the Tastee Diner, somewhere I am SURE to never set foot, thinks it could help its case by releasing this video.
I did look at the surveillance video, and there is ABSOLUTELY nothing inappropriate about what was going on in that picture....they were actually by appearances doing nothing but a very sweet and loving embrace....the reason it looks like "face in breasts" is because one is seated and the other is standing, but there was absolutely nothing sexual about the embrace, and insinuations otherwise appear, to me, to be based on nothing but good ol' fashioned homophobia.
They didn't do anything wrong. ANYTHING. Bigots LIE to justify their bigotry. The only way you're going to see something wrong in this video is if you're watching it with your head up your ass. Homophobes and racists LIE to justifying their bigotry. That's common sense. You know damn well the KKK lynched black people in the South because they too "acted improperly", that is, in ways that racists didn't approve of. This is the same thing. Keep protesting!
I watched intently expecting to see some lewd, overt behavior and nothing ever happened. How many straight couples might a jury viewing other tapes see engaged in far more obvious acts of affection without harassment? I suggest someone at this company do a lot of apologizing very soon because they screwed up badly on this one.
Apologize. You were wrong. You acted stupidly. Whether it was out of racism or homophobia (and it was probably both), doesn't matter. You were W-R-O-N-G! Stop trying to justify your idiotic behavior.
Seriously, since when does resting your arms on another person's shoulders become "intimate" or "inappropriate." I am so pissed over this, mainly over Tastee Diner's ignorance that their manager was totally offbase. He should be fired and so should the General Manager and whoever posted that ludicrous comment at the top right of the screen. I'm embarrassed for them.
I'd at in a racial discrimination claim. Fricking outrageous! Nerdy white guy manager was watching them the entire time, fuming, waiting to say something. Tastee Diner, your commentary describing the video is horrendous. The video shows all they were doing was embracing & a few times one woman rested her head on the other's chest. To say this is inappropriate/intimate behavior is unreal. You should be ashamed. An outrage. You should've hidden the video! Unreal you didn't know better.
Tired, tired, tired. Tastee Diner should be ashamed. If that was the football captain and the cheerleader, you know for damn sure they'd be encouraged in their flirtation.
Tired, tired, tired. And perhaps, ILLEGAL.
These ladies deserve a public apology and an explanation.
Tastee Diner loses this round -- and this regular customer (Sundays for breakfast at least once a month in a group of either 2 or 4), until they atone for this pretty obvious discriminatory behavior. I do appreciate that they posted the video, since it makes their unwarranted action clear.
wow, this video doesn't prove that they were being inappropriate at all. The video looks quite grainy for one and easily the woman could of been resting her head on her date's chest or her shoulder because the woman who was standing seems relatively short. Also, it was late so it could of easily been her saying I'm tired and was resting her head on her date. Ultimately, this video doesn't prove they were being over the top with their PDA and I probably won't be coming back to this diner!
Tastee Diner needs to be shut down over this childish nonsense. The that anyone thinks: "they should be applauded for their openness and releasing the video" is perposterous dragonwisard.
What exactly is X-rated? A hug? The fact that a woman laid her head on another woman's chest? I've done that to my husband so many times in public it isn't possible to count them. If you tell me she was licking her chest, or making some sort of erotic noise, you might have something going here. Otherwise I think you just clearly exposed your homophobia and lost your case.
I think it's ridiculous to post a video that you claim will clear your name when it's completely impossible to tell what's going on. It hurts your credibility to say something this obscure "clearly" shows the manager is in the right -- it shows that you have an incredibly low standard of proof for what you're alleging.
That's why this will backfire -- because you're claiming to have clear evidence and it turns out it's just not there. I find the fact that you posted this disgusting.
boycotted for life. no worries though, its not because of what you did, its because of what one of your employees did, it is what you the 'business' did afterwards. posting this online to try to 'clear' your name - thats despicable.

Wow, is everyone really getting pissed on Tastee for being open and forthcoming about this? Most businesses would just try to cover it up and pretend nothing happened.
Maybe it was discrimination, maybe it wasn't. But I think they should be applauded for their openness and releasing the video so that viewers could judge for themselves.
Pay attention, dragonwisard. The description makes it very clear that they don't want us to judge for ourselves. It doesn't say "tell us if we were right or wrong". They don't show us video of anyone else they threw out, for comparison. They just show us this, and tell us to see inappropriate behavior where there is none.
Clearly the couple are demonstrating intamacy and affection. I've seen displays like this from male/females hundreds of times without any reaction. Your stupid to put this out to the public because it makes it look bad for you Tastee.
That video is a pretty feeble attempt. It's too distant and grainy to make anything out really, but as far as I can see it appears that the one woman was not "burying her face in the breasts" of the other, but just resting her head briefly on her chest.
It looks like just a couple of young lovers, tired at the end of a long day, in a mild embrace waiting for their to-go order -- all very sweet and innocent.

They don't look like angry opportunists? Come in after a long day dressed as homeless people. They didn't protest or pose for the news cameras in their homeless outfit. I think these two aren't worthy of claiming discrimination nor do they deserve to be the new face of the gay movement. They are an embarrassment.

It seems fairly obvious that Torian Brown was sitting with her legs spread. (I've never seen any person of that size sit comfortably with their legs together. I'm not making fun of her weight, this is simply an observation of physiology.)
If it was a straight couple with they guy sitting and the girl between his legs it would certainly be consider a sexual pose.
you are pathetic if you think that was sexually....compared to what I've seen from straight people in broad daylight in airports RIGHT IN FRONT of children, this was absolutely nothing. These women have a very valid complaint, and Tastee Diner should just do the right thing and apologize! I am letting my friends in Silver Spring know they better not be going to this place. And btw, where were all these families at 2 AM?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I've seen something similar on National Geographic. Two hippos go to a tasty diner and are obnoxious. Yeah these two should go have sex in their natural habitat. I don't think Tastee Diner is homophobic. They're just not R-rated.
Someone came and gave all the comments against Tastee negative responses? LOL
"flamboyantly gay guys" Are you serious?!
Perhaps you don't realize how RIDICULOUS you sound... Its as bad as saying "my Black friend and Indian friend went there and had great, respectful service"
Here's the point. IT SHOULDN'T MATTER WHO YOU ARE. Racially, who you love, etc. None of that matters in a restaurant. And like I said before.. small businesses should support everyone in their community.
It shouldn't matter, but since that's what's being alleged their comment is entirely relevant.
The only times I've ever eaten at Tastee Diner I have gone with friends who were gay and they never felt bothered by the staff.
Furthermore I disagree with your assertion that a small business needs to appease everyone. Tastee Diner has been around for a very long time and like most small businesses they cater to a niche market. Business will be good as long as their niche is happy.
Things to never visit in the DMV: this diner. Taking my gay dollars elsewhere. The sadsack CYA y'all are pulling by posting this grainy vid just confirms it.
I've eaten at Tastee Diner before - great food. In fact, when I was there a few months ago I was sitting across from a big group of fairly flamboyant gay guys. They were treated very respectfully by the waitress.
Come on, my boyfriend often would rest his head on my chest for a while if we hugged when he was sitting and I was standing. It's where your head is if you're in that position. No one ever said a word. It's not like she was motorboating or anything. The only way this is sexual is if you view all lesbians as simply props in your internal porn library. And shame on Tastee Diner for posting this in a pitiful attempt to obscure their discriminination.

Could someone please explain how either a guy or a girl putting his/her face in another's breasts for more than 10 seconds, in the front area of a restaurant, is not going to get some concern from someone? Come on people, it wasn't just a hug. And a guy doing it would have been just as inappropriate.
I imagine the woman sitting didn't even think about what she was doing because from their body language it appears that she was seeking comfort in her partner's nearness. True, if my het male partner and I were in their places he probably wouldn't go face down into my cleavage in public for any reason. Still, it's not like they were making out fast and furious. So this maybe crosses the line, but not by much as far as I am concerned.
I know them both and even with "t" sitting on the stool "N" is not so tall ...her head was rested on her damn shoulder....its a sign of im tired and comfortable....

It's a blurry video, but it looks to me like there could be reasonable cause for the manager to ask them to "tone it down". I've seen straight couples reprimanded for similar behavior.
I think people are jumping to conclusions by calling it LBG discrimination. The evidence sounds shaky at best. I don't think there's really a case here.
Also, the quotes I read said the hetero couple were sitting at a booth, which is a bit more private than sitting at the bar right in front of the entrance.
First of all they were paying to leave and waiting on the cashier...but they had no right to tell them to stop nothing was inappropriate. I see couples hold each other at 2 am in the morning ...they just thought they were going to be assholes...They are going down period....
So I'm sitting here waiting to see what is so inappropriate. I think its sad that you had to put the entire video up on you tube in hopes of making yourselves look better to the masses and the media. There is nothing that is different from any other couples heterosexual, homosexual or not. You might wanna check the reality that the gay community is a 80 billion dollar a year market. Perhaps you should think about that considering you're a small business.
All they did was lean on each other and put their arms around each other. I have seen a lot worse PDAs from straight couples. Plus if there was a straight couple making out in the restaurant, then they are going to have some big issues since LBG discrimination is illegal in MD.
this is what i testify, as being a queerperson, i admit i've been "this" affectionate in public and felt like i dealt no disrespect...and yet equally will say that i've seen just as much affection being presented by couples who are heterosexual.
If I would have been there I would have confronted the manager and let him know that what he was doing was wrong and I wasn't going to give any business to his establishment anymore.

A Guy & Girl - No Problem
A Girl & Girl - Big Problem with the Management.
Fire these HOMOPHOBIC Managers at Tastee Dinner.
I'll NEVER eat there for sure!

boycotted for life. no worries though, its not because of what you did, its because of what one of your employees did, it is what you the 'business' did afterwards. posting this online to try to 'clear' your name - thats despicable.

Wow, is everyone really getting pissed on Tastee for being open and forthcoming about this? Most businesses would just try to cover it up and pretend nothing happened.
Maybe it was discrimination, maybe it wasn't. But I think they should be applauded for their openness and releasing the video so that viewers could judge for themselves.
dragonwisard 2 years ago
Pay attention, dragonwisard. The description makes it very clear that they don't want us to judge for ourselves. It doesn't say "tell us if we were right or wrong". They don't show us video of anyone else they threw out, for comparison. They just show us this, and tell us to see inappropriate behavior where there is none.
rg0057 2 years ago 3
What a load of nonsense; there's nothing here to offend any average person. Reactionary rubbish.
arobinsonuk 2 years ago 4

JUST SHUT UP because nothing that you are saying is convincing to anyone but yourself.

I'm loving these personal attacks.

you are pathetic if you think that was sexually....compared to what I've seen from straight people in broad daylight in airports RIGHT IN FRONT of children, this was absolutely nothing. These women have a very valid complaint, and Tastee Diner should just do the right thing and apologize! I am letting my friends in Silver Spring know they better not be going to this place. And btw, where were all these families at 2 AM?

I've seen something similar on National Geographic. Two hippos go to a tasty diner and are obnoxious. Yeah these two should go have sex in their natural habitat. I don't think Tastee Diner is homophobic. They're just not R-rated.

and the best thing that you can do in response to this is be disrespectful and degrading. Applaude this dude for his efforts LMAO!!@ maddest

Rosieizfun 2 years ago 2

Enjoy the negative publicity!

And a guy doing it would have been just as inappropriate.
sc20910 2 years ago

Also, the quotes I read said the hetero couple were sitting at a booth, which is a bit more private than sitting at the bar right in front of the entrance.
dragonwisard 2 years ago
First of all they were paying to leave and waiting on the cashier...but they had no right to tell them to stop nothing was inappropriate. I see couples hold each other at 2 am in the morning ...they just thought they were going to be assholes...They are going down period....

**FIRED take it down y'all look even crazier for putting this up.

What about the immediate profiling...The camera zooms in on them before they even sit down!!! "TASTELESS" DINER YOU LOSE>>NOONE IS ON YOURSIDE!!!
djteeboogie 2 years ago 2
sorry, but the zoom was added after the fact to make it clearer. The cameras are not zoomable.

Rosieizfun 2 years ago 9
All they did was lean on each other and put their arms around each other. I have seen a lot worse PDAs from straight couples. Plus if there was a straight couple making out in the restaurant, then they are going to have some big issues since LBG discrimination is illegal in MD.
jdewey72 2 years ago 7
and I dont see why they didn't say nothing to the str8 couple next to them making out...I enjoyed being apart of this protest....Love you Nay
damane1ontop 2 years ago 4
this is what i testify, as being a queerperson, i admit i've been "this" affectionate in public and felt like i dealt no disrespect...and yet equally will say that i've seen just as much affection being presented by couples who are heterosexual.
