  • lol how long had you been producing up to this point? your operator making the sine kick that has the compressor on it, is actually doing fuck all! you might of well of used a utility on it just to boost to volume. but you used a compessor, but didn't compress anything. i think some people need to know a little more before creating tutorials sometimes.

  • @drummerman44 I've been producing for a decade and if you were a good producer you'd know that there are a plethora of ways of achieving the same goal. This may come as a surprise to a bland and uncreative template producer such as yourself. You choose 'utility' to boost the volume, and I choose to use the output of 'compressor'; doesn't mean you cut someone down because you're insecure about you're own abilities. I go back and add compression but this was not a compression tutorial.

  • @mechanicalchris3 hey sorry after re-reading i did come on a little strong on the way i mentioned this! i didn't listen to the whole video cause i was in ableton myself at the time and was getting stressed that i couldn't find a video that quickly showed the outline of operator. I understand a lot of people need the full run though of how to make a certain sound, but i was just after a quick tour of the instrument!

  • @drummerman44 That's cool. I personally don't use EQ3 because I find that it 'colors' the sound... in a way I don't like. Give it a shot, put an EQ3 on a full track and try turning the entire EQ3 device on and off... guarantee you'll here a difference without touching the controls. Certainly the way you're layering synths works.. you may just want to get a synth like Albino or any of the others that have a multiple filters for every oscillator.

  • @drummerman44 I'd think band passing each oscillator might sound cool too. After-all, the expensive multi-band compressors break out into over-lapping gradual band-pass filters which might glue the sound better? I could see how working your way could get creative if you periodically jumble each band. I don't really go for thick sounding stuff so its not my area of expertise but I can help if you have any questions.

  • @mechanicalchris3 i usually use three different layers out of the synths i create for complete control over all my sounds. I wondering whether you do this as well now. I create a 3EQ and group it, change the low, mid and high start points and then duplicate three times in the chain then disable different bands on each to create three bands to then compress the high freq. and then bitcrush and add a spread and keep the bass nice and fat. then i mix the bands together, what do you think?

  • What hardware synth resembles the sounds of this program? I know this is based off the DX7, but are there similar options available in e.g. waveshapes and individual operator coarse tune.

    I just created a sound in Operator and I need the hardware version of it.
