@toejam498 i agree with you on that...Grant Geissman did the oringinal solo and his was superb ...this guy put no effort on the solo at all but still a song without him
I first heard Chuck Mangione and his band playing live at Ontario Place, Toronto in 1977 and again in 1978, sitting on the grass bank on a summer evening ( and yes the evening was warn ) the music was my first taste this type of jazz and the Fuggle Horn; as you can hear in my words, great times. This was before he hit the big time and than faded. He has not lost his talent.
@arumney1 I first heard of chuck mangione when i was in a record store in the city and i saw his album and thought he looked really cool. so i bought it and checked it out, haha one of my better random buys.
I first heard this tune back in 1974, and it's still one of my favourites. It brings back many happy memories of my visit to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. when I was in the Royal Navy.
@Ponyboi100 can you play trupet...if so then you can play flugelhorn, they are essentially the same assuming you are using two b flat or c or whatever key trumpet and flugelhorns. If you cant play either then i would reccomend private lessons, they are however quite expernsive and after over 10 years playing trumopet and flugelhorn i can barely play this piece, its hard and takes a lot of practice
yo a chuck mangione lo conosco por mi padre desde los 5 años y la verdad es un gran musico, uno de los mejores y aun espero que pueda pisar tierras aztecas, uno de los grandes!!!
i just watched bughousemaste's version of this song, and he's making mistakes all over the place.... Maybe perfect the song before you accuse Chuck Mangione of being amateurish.
hey BughouseMASTER we are all converging on a chuck mangione vid (including you ) . why ? because hes the greatest ! I know it , you know it , just like everyone else.
were not watching a bughouse video . why ? because your nowhere . your a nobody .
when you compose a song that people are still interested in
more then 30 years later , then I'll go to your video and tell you what a fucking asshole you are !
all you ppl thats say he's pro and missed a note who cares. i mean really just because he missed a note does'nt mean he's not amazing. okkae for you dumb ppl there are something called chops when you play and no matter if you pro or not you WILL run out after a while. and those ppl that criticize about a mistake, you go try and put on a concert and play for as long as he did and that play it. yea it's pretty hard. so just chill out chuck is freakin amazing.
his lips are worn out and exhausted...notice how he has to go an octave lower at times because his lips won't make the high notes (octave higher) like on his recordings..I know, I play this and my lips give out also..tough song...
Until you come up with a legendary global smash it you should feel free to critique. Until then - shut the fuck up. Seriously. You're a nobody trashing on a legend.
wow... another mistake @ 1:14-1:15 & 1:31... i have yet to Chuck have a FLAWLESS performance like a true professional should... as a Trumpet player myself it's quite sad...!
You must not be a jazz musician then. If you were, you would know that a large part of jazz music is not only improvisation, but altering regular phrases within the music to give a different sound/feel. He may have messed a note, but to me it breaks the monotony and sounds nice. Also, arguably one of the best trumpeters of all-time Miles Davis made 'mistakes' like that all the time, and people loved it. So, maybe think about the style next time . . .
Oh, but I AM a jazz musician and i did this song myself MANY times already, including twice on my own vids and no you're wrong the mistake makes it sounds terrible & obvious that he didn't practice it very well the night before.... and miles davis is FARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR from the best trumpeters of all time you should really get your mind out of the gutter bec u dont know what you're talking about.
Miles Davis, far from one of the best . . . Wow, considering that many people worldwide consider Kind of Blue to be one of the best albums ever released, not just in jazz, but overall . . . I can tell you are a trumpet player, they always were over annoying and cocky. As for practice/performance, are you going to tell me straight up that you have never ever, not once, never missed a single note, count, hold, rest, anything in your life? Give me a break, go back under your rock.
compslut, are you STUPID?! of course ppl make mistakes but then that's where PRACTICE comes into play... and bughousemaster is one of the BEST trumpet players out there if you're tonedeaf and cant realize that yourself then i pity you much better fall on a knife fag.
you fucked up in your own rendition of this classic. don't put the dude down. he might not have gotten laid in a while or his wife left him.... oh yeah he wrote the fucking song so..... he is allowed to fuck it up.
Geeze. I went to your you tube sight. For someone who thanks god and gives him all the glory, you tally up each and everything you see as a mistake like you were writing sins in the book of life.
Point is we're watching Chuck. Not you. There may come a time you reach a status that we search your youtube videos out. I hope you get the privilege of touching other people with your music like CM. THAT'S what it's all about. Not tallying mistakes.
Your hubris is disgusting. You are a youbube nobody. In your own mind you may sound good alone in your parents basement. Who are you to disrespect Chuck? Clown.
Hi, I saw Chuck in 1980 at Wallingford, during my sojourn to USA. After twenty years, he came to my home town in Poland- to Szczecin. It was on May 26th 2000. Here, in Poland it was " Mothers day". I don't have to say, what I have felt at that moment. It was my happiest day, ever.I really love his music, so much, you can't imagine that.
That takes me back. I was awestruck when I first heard this ditti. Funky town platform shoes and wide lapels groovy town funk soul brother!!! Afro King legend!!! Yeah Get the drift.....
Yeah me to, on King of the hill!! dun dun dun tun tun ton dun dun dun tun ta ta tun tata dun dum tun hu hu ha trun tata tun dun dun, and thats the king of the hill theme, LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah I can't believe it either the guy who posted it had to take it off because of the copyrights from FOX! You can still go to hulu's website and watch the entire episode called "Stew-roids"
Good looking for posting the vid. I absolutely love this dude. Cant wait to see him next month in Vegas. If you haven't heard the version with vocals you gotta check it out. One of the most beautiful things i've heard in my life!
Boricuajazz, I was at this concert. How the heck you got this?? It brings me very good memories. I remember when CBA (in spanish) was the main international jazz hub in PR. Grover Washington Jr. went there, George Benson, The Rippingtons, Spyro Gyra. Every year you were waiting who were going to be there. Now it is regueton, merengue, ... Thanks to God they;ve got the Choliseo and we can go back to those good 'ol days.
I totally agree. I always really loved the original sax solo on the album cut that seemed to later be cut from the single version. I saw Chuck in Nashville a year ago or so and it was very cool. Chris wasn't there though.

His solo on the album is one of the best solos I've heard. I don't know if he still there now but he taught at University of Maryland. When I studied music, I was told I would be able to study with him. Then at the last minute, I was told it would be someone else :(

I love the sound of Chuck's flugel. This is my favorite song of his. I love the hats he wears lol. And I agree with Canivalforever, he does look very relaxed during this song. We're going to be playing his "Land of Make Believe" in our field show this year and I'm so excited!
OHH, I just love Chuck Mangione!! He is a Jazz genious!! Feels so good is one of my favorites. Thanks so much for sharing this master peice with the world...

The year between 1976 and 1983 saw an infiltration of great New York based Jazz into the pop charts.
This piece was a prime example.
It was a blessing and, I believe, the last time it had happened.
Mangione, George Benson, Herbie Hancock, Herb Albert and other had chart topping songs that added so much to the mainstream music world.
Thanks for the upload of this Jazz classic.

I love the sound of Chuck's flugel. This is my favorite song of his. I love the hats he wears lol. And I agree with Canivalforever, he does look very relaxed during this song. We're going to be playing his "Land of Make Believe" in our field show this year and I'm so excited!
