  • thanks!

  • my karate class fucked that up

  • wait i'm sorry are we pronouncing the "i" in ichi and shichi or not?

...or maybe the vowel sound isn't that emphasized so u don't really hear it...?

I'm very serious so I hope I don't offend anyone

  • @ksmiles203 You're right in the second case. Much like the 'u' sound in words like -desu, -masu, and suki, the 'i' sound in these cases is very understated, almost to the point of non-pronunciation. Whether one pronounces these sounds or not tends to rely largely on their regional accent.

    100: hyaku

    101: hyaku-ich

    111: hyaku-ju-ichi

    999: kyu-hyaku-kyu-ju-kyu

    1,000: sen

10,000: man (careful about this one, 10,000 is a new word, it is NOT ju-sen)

  • thank you..more power

  • Why can only some of the numbers use the kun reading instead of the on reading? Also, when is it correct to use the ON or KUN reading in general?

  • @NevermoreFan i notice it also.. she's kinda u know what i mean!

  • this video sure motivates me to learn japanese

  • COOL

  • What about 0?

  • @Cubology 0 is「零」"rei" in Japanese.

    But 「ゼロ」"zero" is more popular.

  • good job i could understand it better(:

  • Do Japanese sometimes not pronounce the last vowel in a word?

  • @lalelulallo if it is a 'U' then usually you dont pronounce it, as loud as the others. it's hard to explain with out giving examples ;)

  • this is sooo educational!!! =P i could learn all day from watching her if it was a guy i would of closed this video by now .. im such a perv but if i learn its worth it =D

  • @soniku88 LOOOOOOL, Your So Right, Man.

  • Thank you very much.ARIGATOU!

  • is roku pronounced as dor-ku

    or raw-ku

  • it's pronounced ro-ku, but the r is pronounced as almost a "drl" sound. It feels odd to pronounce at first, but after a while it starts to feel natural.

  • thank you adn you nice an bfull

  • lol i guess someone from expert village actually has something to offer.

  • @Myuzishin why did you give 4 thumbs down to the guy, you dull stupid people?

personally I think like him... I love asian women, and she is really beautiful... I can hardly stay focused on her teachings (besides the fact I know some [very] basic japanese)

  • Thanks for the support, RZ.

Yuu is totally hot, in some of her other vids its even more distracting than this one. Props to Yuu-chan, though. Most of the vidiots on Expert Villiage aren't so entertaining. Or smart. Or knowledgable. Or helpful. Or hot. Thumbs-down me all ya want, folks. I like Yuu :-) Arigatou, Sensei!

  • Even though the pronunciation and semantics in Japanese and Chinese is vastly different, its interesting to know we make the numbers exactly the same 二十一. yay our system rules! screw the european irregular system. just kidding. I still found the numbers in spanish easy though once you get used to it. chinese is still easier though.

  • Watashi wa jyu hachi sai desu xD

  • @Motorolav522 kekkou (:D)

  • so in normal talk, is it better to use yon or shi for 4 (just 4)...same with 7, should it be shichi or nana?

  • "shi" and "nana" sounds better (imo) but my japanese friend also says normally people say "shi" and "nana", but again, it doesn't really matter which one you use xD

  • @ForeverBlah123 some japanese people avoid to use in any form "shi" or "shichi" 'cause those words have the first -phonetically- sylllable of "shinu" (死 : death... bad, really bad omen between japanese people (:D)); that's why they use "yon" instead of "shi", and "nana" instead of "shichi", but for a non-native-japanese speakers it's OK anyway

  • that was easy =D

  • Once you get to 1000 things start getting insane.

  • oh wow thank u i needed that so much in karate

  • .....(O_o)

  • oh wow well done

  • very helpful

  • girls can say watashi or atashi

guys can say boku or watashi

  • i heard a guy say ore-sama, they said guys can also say ore for i, is that right?

  • yes you can hear that word in animes a lot.. I'm pretty sure you can say ore too

  • yes but it is a more manly way of adressing oneself so girls wouldnt use it but guys could

  • Well I am learning too but I know that ore is often used to put lots of emphasis over one's (the speaker's) masculinity.

  • how about orewa?

  • orewa would probably be ore wa instead and the word wa is a particle

so that's just ore followed with the particle wa
