  • I just made this it doesn't taste very nice :/ I had to add more sweetener to it and it's slimy and melts way to fast not like normal chocolate sorry kent :/ but this chocolate to me taste like ass :( Have you go any suggestions on how to make the mix more chocolate realistic? Thanks ;)

  • @gaupaenazul Sorry maybe it's your coconut oil brand. I have had this multiple times, and it does work better with Splenda than Truvia. Other than and perhaps adding salt if not using nuts it's always worked out great for me.

  • @bowulf Fair enough I just thought id be honest and share as it will help to like do some est on trying different things I have been playing around with it and will say 25ml of whipping cream added to the mixture and 6tsps of splenda obviously your not gunna eat the whole thing in one siting tastes nicer but had to trail and error before I got there it's really hard shopping for atkins they don't do alot of things I live in uk and my closest supermarket is waitrose anyways thanks Kent ;)

  • @bowulf oh and also more realistic with cream oh will say thanks though as I never knew how o make chocolate before and it's handy to have something while your dieting of course it never gunna taste as good as he real thing but it's something so gotta say thanks for that keep up the good work Kent. I will do some shopping around for some different coconut oil, got mine from a really snobby herbal shop that stocks all sorts of organic goodies but found it was rather oily so maybe make ;D

  • Hi Kent, how are you? I was wondering if Xylitol would work for this or how many drops of pure Stevia extract might work? ...thanks in advance.

  • @MISSINGROGERHOWARTH Doing fine -- after running a half marathon this past weekend, I was pretty run down, but now everything is good. Xylitol can get a little gritty as you freeze it, but if you simply chill it, it should be fine. I haven't worked with the Stevia extract liquid yet, but I would say 1 or 2 at the most.

  • @bowulf Congrats on your half marathon, and thanks for the info. Also, thanks for all of your support.

  • shouldnt you put some cream in that??

  • @winiver77 Really no need.... I would suggest using Splenda rather than Truvia in this particular recipe, but it doesn't need the milk proteins or fats.

  • @bowulf no way Splenda is bad for u, it is a man made chemical sweetener, Truvia or Stevia is natural and only safe alternative for a diabetic.

  • @ahkivahsha After 7 years for myself and 20+ years for some Canadian friends, I have seen zero negative side effects. I have no problems in using it or recommending those not sensitive to it to use it.

  • I am a new follower - Love your videos!!! Anyway, this may be a stupid question but I'm having trouble finding liquid Splenda. Is it called something else? Do you make it? I'm going to keep searching online but I thought I would just ask. You seem to be an expert in the sugar substitues. Thanks!

  • @sayhi2kimberly Check out my video called "Liquid sucralose or Splenda -- where can I get it?" where I deal with this question. The short answer is most people will have to order from the Internet unless you have a really good health store. I bought mine from Ebay about 2 years ago, but there are other sources as well.

  • maybe better honey ? natural

    litlle = sweet taste

    Thank you

    Sylwia

  • @SylwiazLodzi Honey contains almost strictly fructose, which can cause liver problems. The Splenda option has never been a problem for me, so the whole natural or artificial question is a non issue.

  • Try your local Asian supermarket for coconut oil as its a fraction of the price you would pay in a normal supermarket.. If you do not have one, try asking in your local Chinese restaurant if they know where you can buy it cheaper.

I have been making low carb chocolate for a long time. I sometimes whip some cream ( I make my own cream ) up and mix that in too. .. try dipping strawberries or sugar free marshmallows into it..

  • What else do you use coconut oil for? Why is it better than other oils?

  • I like using nut oils as I think they are generally healthier than the canola or soy oils generally found in the oil aisle. As for what I use it for, I use it in everywhere I would use any oil with the exception of deep fat frying. You could use it for that as the smoke temp is pretty high, but then so would be the cost factor.

As for why better, mostly I like the flavor of it better. It is also closer to real food like olive oil than say corn oil. Check out MCT Oil benefits for more reasons.

  • I tried it with olive oil...total disaster since it never hardened. Finally found some coconut oil and it worked like a charm. My coconut oil cost me 8.99 for 14 oz at the supermarket so in the future I would just buy a box of sugar free chocolates. I appreciate the recipes...i've been trying them all out :)

  • I like the lack of sugar-alcohols like maltitol, but there are certainly those that aren't affected in the same way. I am glad you liked the recipe whether or not you make it again. :-D

  • Omg Chocolate! you made my night. Love the videos.

  • You might also want to check out the low carb chewy candy bar video that I made here too. I haven't made it in awhile, but it has lots of chocolate flavor as well.

  • :-}

  • Glad you like it!

  • Oh ok,so will splenda be fine to use on induction

  • Yes, it is one of the two Dr. A mentions in his book. Saccharin is the other -- Stevia wasn't approved yet at that time.

  • i tried this using stevia and it was horrible,i dont kno what i did wrong

  • I haven't yet perfected this recipe with Truvia, so I have gone back to granulated Splenda instead for this recipe.

  • ok thanks

  • is coco powder unlimited on the Atkins or do i have a limit on how much i can consume

  • No, it is not unlimited as it still has carbs. 1 TBSP of Cocoa powder has 3g of carbs with 2g of fiber, so on Induction on could reasonably have up to 4 TBSP per day, which seems like a lot.

  • the cocoa powder i have has 2 carbs and 2 fiber so i guess 0 net carbs

  • dud you got to work on your container because it looks scary,

and to make you feel happy about your diet you got to make it look like kit kat bar or something like , but the question is..... how? lol if you know please tell me

  • SPLENDA IS AWESOME !

    :D

  • It is. :-)

  • Drum roll pleaseeeeee...

I'm now eating the chocolate and it's not bad at all except it's probably not "Atkins friendly" now :)

    But it's edible...

    However;

I believe the recipe calls for the 1 1/2 TSP of the coco :)

I'm now off to perfect it and make another batch.

This is awesome that I can now make candy at home.

    Thank you Ken ;)

  • No it is 1.5 TBS of Cocoa powder. The amount of cocoa powder to sweetener is still a work in progress for other items other than Splenda.

I hope your other batch turns out successfully.

  • What did I do wrong? It isn't the least bit sweet.

  • What artificial sweetener did you use? I liked my results using Splenda more than Truvia, but make sure you note I increased the amount of sweetener to 1 full packet of Truvia, which is basically 1 TBS of Splenda.

  • I used a whole packet of Truvia. It's so bitter, I'm going to add some Splenda to it. Maybe that will do it. I can't imagine it being too sweet.

  • You probably did the same thing that I did *lol*

Over to the left side I clicked on more info and there it says to add 1.5 TBS of coco powder but in the video he mentions adding 1.5 TSP of coco -- so as I was preparing it I tasted it as I stirred it and had noticed it was not sweet enough and added another pack of truvia. It's now in the freezer to harden :)

So we'll see very shortly and I post how it turned out..maybe a "dark chocolate"? heh

    Or I ruined it :(

    We shall see....

  • I don't care for peanuts with chocolate. Is there any reason not to use pecans instead?

  • No, as long as you are at the nut phase, you are free to add which ever nut you want. Just be aware of the carb count of the nuts you add.

  • How many carbs are in the chocolate bark ? Thanks for the great videos they have really helped.

  • From the video description:

    Info with Liquid Splenda:

    Calories- 178, Fat- 18g, Carbs- 3 (1g Fiber), Protein- 2g

**Truvia Net Carbs would be higher due to the Erythitol

  • U are GREAT!!!!!!!!!!! U should have your own show on T.V. Very helpful and inspirational....Thanks for your videos.....

  • You are welcome.

  • why do i keep getting sweet cravings all the time? is there anything i can do to stop it?

  • You might try a couple things. Two supplements are recommended by Dr. A. L-Glutamine and Chromium Piccolinate are both good for cravings. I have also found entirely dropping anything sweet for 4 or 5 days including artificial sweeteners can help your brain lose the taste for sweet.

Will it ever stop? Yes after a few weeks I stopped dreaming of donuts, etc., but that's why you do visualization techniques to defeat cravings. Check out my temptations video.

  • thanks, so just to clarify when you bbq and the skin or chicken turns kind of black it dosent add carbs right ? also what do you mean should not add any spices ?

  • Oops I meant to "should not add any carbs" not spices. I was typing too fast. The blackness of the skin is just rendered fat and burnt amino acids not any carbohydrates. Sorry for the confusion.

  • Sorry About That, No I have my own tandoori spices in which i barbeque and eat with the skin about 6 pieces same as you i dont use any sauces and the spices is about 1 carb per tsp so you think thats good ? Does barbequeing add carbs ?

  • That should be fine - spices are absolutely Induction and later phase legals.

Roasting over slow coals or BBQ'ing the chicken is legal, and should not add any spices. (BBQ means so many different things to different people that I had to be safe.) Sounds delicious!

  • First don't spam your question across multiple videos.

As for how many I would eat BBQ with sauce none. as the sauce is usually high carb. Rotisserie is generally how I eat my skin, and in that case I eat until I am not hungry which can be 4-6 pieces.

  • Thank you, Kent, for this great video. You are my Atkins inspiration! I'm a 37 year old male. Just started Atkins about a week ago, and I've been watching all your videos. Great stuff!

  • Not a problem, and I wish you much perseverance through the Induction flu period. It's always good to know the videos are of use. Good luck!

  • How can I avoid getting kidney stones again on this diet. I was on it for 6 months and lost 60 pounds but then stopped because I got sick. I'm so frustrated because I want to go back but I'm worried about causing damage? Any thoughts?

  • If you have kidney damage, you shouldn't do the Atkins diet. IF you have normal kidney function, simply drink your water (see my water video for how much) and you should be fine. Most times kidney stones are caused by dehydration than anything else.

  • Thanks! My wife is delighted now, and subsequently so am I.

  • Hi, where did you get your coconut oil?? I've been looking for it for other recipes as well and I have not been able to find it.

  • Wal-mart near the Olive Oil section.

  • Great videos keep them up!

  • I tried chocolate bark but I can't stand the texture of coconut oil! Does your's melt down funny in your mouth??

    BTW I LOVE you videos!

  • Not to me. Mine melts like chocolate (not exactly), but that melt in your mouth flavor is there.

  • Looks yummy thanks

  • You are very welcome!

  • looks great! Thanks

  • You are welcome.

  • Hi Kent - I love chocolate but was avoiding it because of the sugar - will definetely give it a try.

    Thnaks!!

  • No problem, I hope you like them.

  • Thanks Kent!!!! ......I cant wait to try that.

  • It's great. I think you'll love it.

  • Looks great!

  • Thanks.
