hi guys i want to get this sound on my xr6 turbo do i have to put a bigger intercooler on to get it? or what do i have to do to get that sound everyone has a different opinion. and will it fuck my turbo is this true?
Compressor surge happens when the engine cant consume the air being forced into it under load so it goes back out the way it came in. This also happens when you shift and the throttle plate closes causing the air to go back out the way it came in. BOTH CIRCUMSTANCES cause the air to exit back out through the turbo causing surge! Its not one or the other its both!

It increases rubber necking by several thousand percent, and makes your penis larger. Nah, I plumb back, but like every other hater out there, I only hate because I want to do it too.
haha putts it in drive and plants it with foot on brake..good way to spool the turbo while not moving but also a great way to strain a turbo and trans haha
damn.... that is not a BOV noise, thats flutter created by the pressure left behind the TB plate as you lift your foot off the gas pedal, air flows back into the turbo hiting the compressor (that it is spinning at maybe 20,000 rpms in this case) and creating that noise, in this case, it is excesive.

@bustfer07 It is less performance as the forced air has no were to go when the TB/butterfly snaps shut after the accelerator is released(Gear changes). This forces the incoming air back onto the compressor unit ,therefore loss of turbine rpm's. On the track a DV(Dump Valve) can be used to release the air keeping alot more rpm's (more boost) Younger generation like the same thing but is called a BOV (Blow off valve) differnce is a BOV is made to make funny noises ,a DV just makes a woosh sound
CONT: This flutter noise you hear is compressor serge that is amplified due to the after market air filter and allot/stainless piping. With a stock air filter its does the same but can not be heard ,unless the car comes stock with a DV. Most young lads will take it off anyway and replace it with a BOV for the sound. If the car was for performance/track you want NO compressor surge(Flutter) what so ever otherwise it is a place for improvement

@bufftony01 I know it does not damage unless you are running very high boost ,but it can as i seen turbos come in the shop with rooted seals caused by surge(Flutter). Also it is a loss of HP on shifts as the turbine is not on song the whole time thats why DV's(Dump Valves) and good BOV's are made for. MRs has a BA XR6T and yes i like me Fords and its quick but SC is the only way in my eyes. SC yes will whine but is a constant forced PSI band throughout the rev range.
CONT: Therefore gives you a longer and much HP band that works great with v8's to go with the massive torque they produce. Also i ment MRS car not MRs haha but anyway it goes friggen hard too but no surge tho as i have removed as much as possible. She wants one of them whistle BOV's rather then the more expensive DV ,manly as she likes the noise. I just cant stand and wont drive around sounding like tweety bird so she wont be getting that as a gift. SC whine on the other hand is music to my ears

Surge is bad for my car. I have read many people having issues with surge on my car. Not saying it's bad for all or it's law because my experience and a few experiences of a few members on my forums, but I took out the part causing surge in my car and I feel better about it. Yes theres debate on if lacking a bov is bad on the turbo. some say yes some say no. For those who think it doesnt harm the turbo, why do car companies, such as dodge, saab, nissan, (and more) put some kind of bov or release for the air not being use when the throttle is not engaged. @tienshenhan86 Turbo fluter aka compressor surge isnt always bad yeah it will ruin your engine over time but it also means faster spool up. Im a crew member for Chelsea DeNofa and his m3 gets compressor surge and he hasnt blown his engine yet and its been running for 76,000 mi because it was donated by another m3 because his original engine blew after 250,000mi. People think compressor surge is bad when it sometimes really isnt. But thats for drifting us drifters ned alot of instant power

@jersthecool i doubt its totally reversing the turbo....i mean u still have idle exhaust coming out, and the turbo blades have some inertia to keep them spinning. But ok, makes sense that the BOV causes flutter.

no the flutter doesnt come from the bov, if u want flutter take stock bov off and block off the holes, or fit an after market blow off valve and set it to hard so that it wnt open!!! flutter is trapped air that needs to get out, the flutter is the turbine chopping that air up, hense the chatter or flutter.. long term will damage turbo!!!
Its not a bov!!! its trapped air that needs to escape, the flutter is the turbine chopping through the excess air... if u want the flutter take stock bov off and block up holes, or fit after market bov and set it to as hard as it goes!!! it does in the long term kill the turbo but it wld take a fair while!!!
@PurplDanq Surge is the air bouncing back and forth between the compressor and throttle, nothing to do with the blades spinning backwards, at near boost level, the rotating assembly has way too much inertia to be spun backwards lol and yes it might (in thoery) be bad for your turbo, but it's never been proven nor has anyone defined what exactly it does to the turbo...

@CrackyOo when you fit the dump valve it has a vacuum pipe feed, with the vac pipe on the dump valve it gives the normal sound like a tissss take the vac pipe off and you get the pigeon sound like the video
my bov makes the chooping noise when i let off the thirottle, it opens and closes like 4 times a second, and it dumps out till there is no boost, i think it happens cause its an sti bov, set for 16 pounds, and im only running 5 pounds of boost :p it wont kill your turbo, but it does slow it down and you lose time having to wait for spool again
@NASTYTHEBOY Sorry bro but you couldn't be more wrong here... You don't set a BOV for a certain boost pressure you tune it for the appropriate vacuum to open with, but boost pressure has FA to do with it. As long as there is at least some to open it. That noise is definitely not your BOV's piston opening and closing 4 times per second... Lol the noise you hear is coming through the inlet of the compressor housing, not the BOV.
@hiimcam ooook. ....... erm, yes it was :p i fixed it now, but but i could see the damn piston pulsinng through the horn, and i REALLY got on the boost it would open completly, its a cheap chineese blow off valve that i fixed with a jale chicano :D
The fluttering sound will kill your turbo. The fluttering sound is the air going back into the inlet of your turbo en the turbine will chopp the air. The air will spin the turbo the wrong way and it's not healthy for your turbo. Buy a blowoff and then your sound is gone.

kiddies. want your turbo to flutter? Just BLOCK OFF your BOV (diverter valve) and you can sound like this too. be sure to make a video of your face when the turbo goes... and boy, will it go! : )

@tienshenhan86 Turbo fluter aka compressor surge isnt always bad yeah it will ruin your engine over time but it also means faster spool up. Im a crew member for Chelsea DeNofa and his m3 gets compressor surge and he hasnt blown his engine yet and its been running for 76,000 mi because it was donated by another m3 because his original engine blew after 250,000mi. People think compressor surge is bad when it sometimes really isnt. But thats for drifting us drifters ned alot of instant power

@Andymuwukka a stock standard BOV can make this sound, you just block it off somehow. but if you insist, find the most expensive BOV you can find, they will make the best dose sound and will pull kebabs from the kebab stands easy bro.

@jersthecool i doubt its totally reversing the turbo....i mean u still have idle exhaust coming out, and the turbo blades have some inertia to keep them spinning. But ok, makes sense that the BOV causes flutter.

@chillincruisin Yeah I'm not completely sure because I don't have a turbo and don't know a whole lot about them but it's something like when you have no BOV it tries to send it back through the turbo. Like if you hold your hand palm side facing your face and blow and move your head side to side slowly you can hear the air as it passes through each finger now imagine that really fast and it should sound like compressor surge

no the flutter doesnt come from the bov, if u want flutter take stock bov off and block off the holes, or fit an after market blow off valve and set it to hard so that it wnt open!!! flutter is trapped air that needs to get out, the flutter is the turbine chopping that air up, hense the chatter or flutter.. long term will damage turbo!!!

Its not a bov!!! its trapped air that needs to escape, the flutter is the turbine chopping through the excess air... if u want the flutter take stock bov off and block up holes, or fit after market bov and set it to as hard as it goes!!! it does in the long term kill the turbo but it wld take a fair while!!!

@PurplDanq Surge is the air bouncing back and forth between the compressor and throttle, nothing to do with the blades spinning backwards, at near boost level, the rotating assembly has way too much inertia to be spun backwards lol and yes it might (in thoery) be bad for your turbo, but it's never been proven nor has anyone defined what exactly it does to the turbo...

@CrackyOo when you fit the dump valve it has a vacuum pipe feed, with the vac pipe on the dump valve it gives the normal sound like a tissss take the vac pipe off and you get the pigeon sound like the video

my bov makes the chooping noise when i let off the thirottle, it opens and closes like 4 times a second, and it dumps out till there is no boost, i think it happens cause its an sti bov, set for 16 pounds, and im only running 5 pounds of boost :p it wont kill your turbo, but it does slow it down and you lose time having to wait for spool again

@NASTYTHEBOY Sorry bro but you couldn't be more wrong here... You don't set a BOV for a certain boost pressure you tune it for the appropriate vacuum to open with, but boost pressure has FA to do with it. As long as there is at least some to open it. That noise is definitely not your BOV's piston opening and closing 4 times per second... Lol the noise you hear is coming through the inlet of the compressor housing, not the BOV.

@hiimcam ooook. ....... erm, yes it was :p i fixed it now, but but i could see the damn piston pulsinng through the horn, and i REALLY got on the boost it would open completly, its a cheap chineese blow off valve that i fixed with a jale chicano :D

The fluttering sound will kill your turbo. The fluttering sound is the air going back into the inlet of your turbo en the turbine will chopp the air. The air will spin the turbo the wrong way and it's not healthy for your turbo. Buy a blowoff and then your sound is gone.
