@Nightavenger2 And isn't that what makes living in the USA great? The fact that we can have opinions and express them? And let's face it, we're not talking about earth-shattering, world changing stuff here. We're talking about COMICS! Something that's FUN and ENTERTAINING! And sometimes it's fun to bitch and moan, but ya' know what? It's all in good fun. Elliott
@comicculturewarrior I realize that. But I think what you can agree with what is dumb is some people that just like to complain, and piss people off in the process. For example people complainning about a movie. They don't like the movie yet they continue to criticize a movie even with it doing well at the box office. I know your criticism is done in good fun as it's apart of the show.
I don't quite understand the argument, I mean the idea of women being idealized in comics is no different than men being idealized. How many male superheroes are chubby or ugly? In my mind, if you call that cover sexist, then you must also call any cover displaying a herculean male the same.
I meant the human physique is exaggerated, sexuality included. Many women find muscular men attractive, it could be argued that it could pander to them. Most men in comics are alpha male-types; Wolverine, Batman, that Tarzan like guy from the Savage Land, this plays off a gender stereotype. All my point was that comics tend to idealize the human form as well as persona, it's not just directed at women.
Well, the majority of mainstream comic book readers are male and it's an acknowledged marketing technique to portray woman with 'exaggerated' breasts and posteriors because that appeals to male readers. Again, you never see any hint of the male genitalia because male readers don't find that appealing. And seriously, do you HAVE TO increase the size of a female characters breasts to achieve an 'ideal'?
No, but do you have to make The Hulk so muscular to get the sense he is strong, not really, but it just makes it more visually interesting. I'm aware of the marketing involved, and their primary demographic, but it stands to reason if a single group is believed to be your market then you would focus heavily on appealing to them.
But then you run the risk of alienating another demographic, which mainstream comics has notoriously done with female readers. Why does She-Hulk have such big boobs? Do gamma rays really have that effect on mammary glands? It boggles the mind.
BMB helped make the Avengers significant. Before him, Marvel was a Spider-man and X-men universe. The first thing I thought of with avengers before NEW Avengers was Giant-man punching Wasp
Bendis put Spiderman and Wolverine on the book so it would sell to the FANBOYS and the fanboys are so used to decompressed storytelling by now that they lapped it up.
And you only think about Hank Pym hitting Janet van Dyne because Bendis keeps fucking talking about it!! And it was in the Yellowjacket persona that he struck Janet not as Giant Man.
And just because it started selling more under bendis dosen't mean that the book is GOOD...just look at EVERY new avengers review thread here!
Hank Pym hitting his wife has been brought up a lot without BMB. And it's one of the few highlights of the Avengers book.
I'm not saying that BMB is the best AVengers writer, though i may think so. What I meant by my comment is that nobody outside of a few hardcore fans cared about the avengers before BMB came on. BEfore him, people only bothered to learn about the avengers because Magneto's children and Beast were members.
Hank Pym was not a highlight, it was a relatively minor moment that weak writers like bendis have decided to base some stories on.
Just because you don't know about Avengers history dosen't mean it wasn't important. Avengers was always a top 20 book since the 60's so it wasn't like Bendis was taking over a sub-100 selling book or something.
You don't have a clue about pre-Bendis avengers so your statements are meaningless and based on no substance or fact at all.
Yes, let's go into Avengers history. Ms. Marvel being raped by Immortus' son was a great highlight. Wasp being mini-Paris HIlton with wings. Ms. Marvel's alcoholism. Falcon's affirmative action hire. Iron Man mind-controlled by Kang and attacking Avengers and allies before he himself is killed and replaced by teenager. Erasing Scarlet Witch's children by making them aspects of Mephisto.
These are Earth's Mightiest Heroes? This is just small sampling of messed up stuff with avengers.
what is with chief editors being total fuck-heads these days. oh, and baeritukaez.... you are what's wrong with comic fandom. you are the reason why fuck-heads like joe q and dan didio still have jobs. Fucking moron.....
Back to One More Day, btw I did not support that story by buying it off the stands i bought it in dollar boxes, holy sh*t that was HORRIBLE!!!! The story made no sense and the art was bad... I want my four dollars back...
When you read the responce Quesada said i immeadiately thought: WTF??? I liked Joe when he started out, but now he's starting to seriously disappoint me. Even his artwork disapoints me.
You know what's really sad? Maybe I'm just being cynical here, but I bet this is the actual mindset of the majority of guys buying mainstream superhero books. I desperately want to feel we're not in the minority in finding this book pandering and/or sexist, but I have to assume the average fanboy probably didn't even consider the possibility that the cover and Previews solicit might be sexist.
I mean, am I wrong? Someone PLEASE tell me I'm wrong.
Actually, I'm not giving money and I'm still seeing the comics. So does that make me the only rightful complainer? I mean, by his own logic I am not paying for, yet I am reading it. Thanks Quesada, I used to have moral qaundries over the idea of comic piracy.
I agree that the statement came out wrong but at the same time I think I'm a little harder on him because he is the E i C, if he doesn't like the way something is worded, I'm sure he could find someone to help him out with that.
Joe Quesada isa stupid man... the only thing he is good in is covers and some intro art. It is probably better if he wouldn't spake and just do his job, every time I've heard him spake he was sound like a 16 years old...
Perhaps it's because some people just like to complain, and criticize.

Sure, if the covers are depicting guys with huge bulges in their tights, I can agree with you. But of course, we never see that.
