  • How do I go about buying grains? I am in North Eastern Pa and am having a hard time finding grains here. Thank you!!

  • are you guys vegetarians? i thought i heard a comment about not eating meat. just wondering bacause im considering it.

  • Is it different Kefir Grains to make milk and water grains and why do you want to make mik Kefir. I'm new to this.

  • @jritson58 Yes, those are different grains for milk and water. We started making milk kefir because we have our own family cow and fermented forms of milk are so much easier to digest.

  • @pocketsofthefuture Where can I purchase Kefir grains for milk, I live in the Shetlands.

  • @jritson58 You could look for a supplier in Europe. Or we could ship to you from here. We have lots of great hardworking grains at present!

  • You folks have one of the best Kefir vids on Youtube. I Kefir with grains I got from an individual on the net and they do really well with pasturized, store milk. Kefir is about learning to manage your grains. You know when kefir is ready in part by looking for the whey and in part by smell. You learn how strong you like it and how to keep the grains healthy. Follow the advice here and you won't go wrong.

  • @61loneviking Thank you for your kind comment. And I agree that you are really forming sort of a relationship with your grains. You get to know their rhythms and changes in response to weather and temperature and so on. In some way everything is in relationship and kefir and kefir grains are no exception.

  • Hi, what can be the reason of kefir not multiplying? I had mine over 4 weeks ago and although it has clumped more if doesn't seem to grow. Thank you.

  • I have kefir grains. They are growing like crazy so I just decided to dry some to store for a back up. I have the slimy texture due to the kefiran but I don't have those long grains. Does that happen over time? I also wonder if you've ever had grains that look like they have bubbles. Some of my grains have quite large smooth bubbles that are filled with what I think is kefiran. It's a clear very slimy thick liquid. So interesting how they grow and change.

  • How much do you sell for 20$...I bought mine for ten, and only received a teaspoonful, but still was enough it has doubled it;s size since a month ago. Do they keep growing more and more??

  • @Caretika Thank you for your question. We give about a heaping tablespoon or two tablespoons. We adjust what we give to someone's situation, if asked. For instance, some people find that we give too much and our grains grow so fast that they want fewer grains to start off with. Others have large families and want more grains right away in order to have enough to nourish their family. We are happy to offer whatever a person asks. Leslie

  • its pronounced "KA-FEAR"

  • Yes, there seem to be several different pronunciations. We got accustomed to saying it the way we do long before we heard of any other ways to pronounce it. I like your way, though. Has a sort of mystery to it like the place where these wonderful grains came from.

  • We got grains from these awesome people over a year ago and they are still working great and reproducing at a rapid rate!

Keeping us healthy and happy! Thanks and have a great Thanksgiving!

  • Thank you for you kind and supportive comment.

  • we bought our kefir grains from you over a year ago and they are still going strong! :-) We, too, have lots of kefiran and the grains reproduce very quickly. The kefir is very delicious and creamy.

I think about you, Leslie, every time we strain our kefir. :-)

hope you're doing well. email me sometime.

    - Robyn

  • The kefiran clinging to those grains is crazy! Mine don't do that. :(

Just out of curiousity, is there any particular reason you use your hands to sort out the grains, rather than simply using a strainer?

Also, a canning funnel would help alleviate some of the mess when putting the grains back into the jars. :)

  • I can personally say that your kefir grains make healthy, amazing kefir. I got some grains from you a couple of months ago, and they are awesome! Thanks again!

    Peace and Blessings,

    Beth

  • Thank you so much for sharing your experience. We are glad. Please enjoy your kefir in good health. Leslie

  • This is really awesome. I was just talking to my mom about kefir and about what I have seen on your videos. It was nice to have the update right after that conversation! Thanks.

  • What's the best way to store kefier grains when going on vacation for a couple days?

  • Put the grains in plenty of milk in a jar in the frig with the top mostly on but not tightly on. The grains live on the lactose in the milk and the cool temp's of the frig slow the fermentation process way down. The combination of some extra milk and cool temperatures means that your grains will be happy while you are gone. Just bring them back out on the counter when you get home and wait for the milk to become kefir if it hasn't already while you were gone. Leslie

  • Very cool! Looks great! :)

  • Thank you for your comment. Tastes great too! Leslie

  • Leslie - do you have a place you'd recommend getting the kefir grains? I buy raw milk from a local dairy here in Washington State, but I'm not sure the best place to get grains. Do you have any ideas?? Wish I could get some of yours! I think the drive might be a bit long :)

  • Why you can get the grains from us! We ship all over the country and even overseas nowadays. Click on the link over on the top right where the description of the video is. You can leave a donation there and we will ship our spectacular grains right to your door! Leslie

  • Ok, that sounds great! I'm going to plan to do this after the holidays.

    Thanks for your help!! :)

  • Great to hear from you again. I have a question about kefir grains. I had to go out of town for a couple of days so I put my grains in the refrigerator. They've been in there for about 5 days. Is it safe to drink the kefir from the first batch I make tonight?

  • It is completely safe to drink. When put in the frig, the fermentation process slows down so that was a good thing to do while you were out of town. Even unfermented milk stays good in the frig for longer than five days. Fermenting increases shelf life dramatically. Enjoy your kefir!
