  • interesting

  • I never really knew what i was, in school my last name "melancon" was made fun of because its kinda weird, i guess. so one day i asked my dad and he said that his family are from Louisiana, that they are mainly french creoles, but that i have many different bloods, everyone thinks im white/puerto rican or white/french mixed, i look just like my grandmother when she was my age, its weird, but it explained a lot to me. Some think im black mixed because of my nose, im just might be, never know o.o!

  • this needs to be seen by every type of creole around the world

  • i listen to all type of music

  • am very proud to see this video, am a creole from mauritius which is very far from america. in our island, we mauritian creole we listen to sega, but it doesnt matter we are all brothers

  • I've seen about 10 women I like XD.....ok I'm a mixed guy (black, Native American, and some white), what are my chances lol? I MUST KNOW.

  • i dont think Dominicans, Cubans, & puetro ricans are considered creole. My dad is Dominican & he's Moreno ancestry shes light and my dad is light brown so clearly he has african ancestry also) i mean us Dominicans have alot of words for color but creole isnt one of them. I have an auntie from haiti and she's mixed and she's considered creole.creole now days is when your mixed with french, african and and maybe spanish. the way your using it is as anyone whose mixed who doesnt live in america.

  • @jrrttlzrs You got it wrong boss...The very First Slaves in the New World of Mixed Race Heritage were called Creoles.. The Word Creole means to Create in Spanish ..In other words these Original Inhabitants were labeled Creoles..Now of Days these original inhabitants call themselves the name of their Country of Origin..I believe You are assuming Haitian Creoles are the only true Creoles...You need to look up the meaning of the word.. Creoles are throughout the New World

  • @augustinecomeaux creole does not mean "to create" in spanish. the spanish word "Crear" means to create. so, i wouldn´t trust the rest of the information at this video. BTW the word creole does not exist in spanish..

  • @lcocelote lcocelote

You obviously know very little about Our Creole History. "Crear " means to Create in Spanish & the Word Creole is it's derivatve .In Spanish it's spelled Criollo, in Portuguese, Creole. The First New World People were called Creoles because they were neither Black, White or Native American but a mixture of all of the above thus Creole .The Spanish settlers of Mexico were Called Creole..I speak Spanish also so I'm aware of it's meaning

  • @augustinecomeaux Actually the term in Portuguese is Crioulo, not Créole (which is French)

Anyway, Créole itself has different meanings depending on what society you're speaking of. In the French Caribbean, a Creole person is anyone who is native to the New World regardless of race, and the term itself has no racial connotations whatsoever. Blacks, Whites, Mulattos, Indians, Native Americans and Arabs born in the islands are all Créole.

  • @lexdiamonds1990 @lexdiamonds1990

A Creole is "Not " anyone born in the New World regardless of Race...Native Americans are not Creoles nor Mestizos. Creoles are a distinct People with a distinct Culture ...How can an Arab be a Creole...How funny...You really need to look up the Real Meaning..You are a bit mixed up...You obviously know nothing about Creoles or their Culture.. maybe You can learn something about the Louisiana Creole

  • @augustinecomeaux Sir, I'm a West Indian Creole, I speak Creole as a first language, and I know my history. As I mentioned earlier, the definition of Créole differs WIDELY depending on what society you're talking about. What's considered a Créole in Louisiana isn't the same as what's considered Créole in the French Caribbean, or the Spanish or Portuguese speaking Americas.

  • @augustinecomeaux In the West Indies you are Créole if you were born there and are a part of the colonial or post-colonial society and culture, regardless of race. There are many Arabs and Indians in the French West Indies whose ancestors came here in the 19th century and they are now considered Creole because their culture is now Creole and not Arab or Indian. They speak Creole, not Hindi or Arabic, and many have converted to Christianity, not Islam or Hinduism.

  • @lexdiamonds1990 It really means the same thing in Louisiana. But for some reason, people are being taught that creole is synonymous with mixed race and it's not.

  • @augustinecomeaux Mr. Augustine, you're wrong sir. There are lots of Native Americans/mestizos in louisiana that consider themselves creole so that's not really true. Did you grow up in Louisiana? I have the feeling you didn't.

  • @sambo861 I beg You pardon.I don't have to grow up in Louisiana to know what a Creole is.There are a lot of People that grew up in Louisiana that don't even know what a true Creole is, So whats the point..All My Ancestors have strong Creole Roots & I've lived in Louisiana for over 12 years.Simply because someone lives in Louisiana doesn't means They are Creole. It's a way of life. It's speaking Creole, eating gumbo, & loving Zydeco.just for example and it's not necessarily being mixed..

  • @augustinecomeaux Yes, I know what creole is as I am one as well. I was born and raised in Louisiana. You have some good points, but sometimes you seem to contradict yourself. I was just letting you know that there are Native Americans/mestizos that consider themselves creole. I know it's not a race thing. I apologize if I came off rude.

  • @sambo861 Thank You for Your understanding...It really means a lot when People can see eye to Eye...Thanks very much for Your response

  • @augustinecomeaux

Indeed i do know very little about creole. i was surfing the internet to learn more about it, because i find it very beautiful. But i DO know a little bit about spanish, since is my first language and creole does NOT exist in spanish..

  • @lcocelote What you call creole in spanish is "criollo". That is the spanish word for people of pure spanish heritage born in America. Since the spanish people (from SPain) believed that even the european born in america (the continent, i´m not talking about the US) were "lower" than the euorpean born in europe. the word Creole simply does not exist in spanish.. .

  • @lcocelote By the way, the "mestizos" were the people born of different heritages: european, indígena, and also african arabic and asian heritage ... try to search for creole in a spanish dictionary, it just doesn´t exist... maybe, in some dictionarys creole means mestizo people from haiti, since haiti people speack french... i believe (but i´m not certain) that "creole" is french, but i´m not certain...

  • @lcocelote BTW i meant no ofense to the viceo or the creole culture. Simply i think that information must be accurate. Greetings :)

  • @jrrttlzrs thats perfect, cubans , puertoricans and dominicans are not creole at all

  • It's the migration of cultures from slavery routes in Africa to the U.S.That takes in alot of miles and people! Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • So... what I understand from this video is that all the people in the Americas who are not pure native bloods but race mixed, are "creoles".. am I riight?

  • @augustinecomeaux , I`m an owner of an African Creole Restaurant in Orleans, Ontario Canada. Our goal is to share the african, and the diverse creole culture to our fellow Canadians. Would it be possible to have a copy of ``Now!! Thats a Creole !!`` video for educational purposes?

    merci

  • @Quisqueya77 Send Me an E-mail and We can discuss it...Augustineplans@aol.com

  • Man beautiful people

  • Nice video.

  • Here in Louisiana and the rest of America today Creoles are considered either Black or White. My girlfriend and I are both Creole ,but in every day America she's considered White and I'm considered Black. My mom is mixed with Native American, African American, Dutch, and Indonesian. While my father is mixed with only African American and Native American. So with that being said I consider myself Creole to the bone. Everyday I'm being told that I like look like Lloyd the R&B singer L.O.L.

  • of wat am reading here, you having same problems we somalis have with otha blacks!!!SALUTE....love you.

  • What about the creole people of Haitian, and not African origin from Louisiana? Don't they count? There are also Louisiana creoles of Irish, American Indian, and /or German descent. What about them? It seems as though they have been left out.

  • Bon soir Augustine...t'as toujours les meilleures photos!...et de musique!!!

  • wow the woman at 1:35 looks like a younger version of my aunt, but shes from louisiana and she does take part in creole culture unilike my mom

but i agree, alot of ppl are misunderstanding what creole really is, ITS NOT A RACE, ITS A CULTURE!!!

and its not just for light skinned people, my mom (although she doesnt consider herself creole) has more of a red skin tone unlike her sister who happens to be lightskinned

but there are black creoles, go to hati n see for urself. ITS CULTURE!!

  • can someone sendme the name and artist of the first song and where i can get it

  • @13boodah

That song is by " Fats Domino " and I Think it's called " Cajun Honey "

  • @augustinecomeaux would you mind sharing what the name of the last song is in this video??

  • I am a transplant from New Orleans to PA I hurt for my home daily, I give you credit in your pride as a creole.... I could never be with a creole, because I wouls meet my match

  • Cool video! Thank u! Is there such a thing as California Creole? =]

  • Most Brazilian mulattos speak Portugese and are a blend of African and Portugese. Are Brazilian Creole people more french? Do they speak a type of Creole rather than Portugese like the majority of Brazil?

  • @SaffronSugar Brazilian People of Color are in most cases called "Creoles"because they came from the same areas in Africa as did Our Ancestors & also because they were named that by the Portuguese because they have the same Racial mix & were so called because thy were a Created Race like the Louisiana Creole, Although Our Cultures vary Creoles can be found throughout the New World & off the coast of Africa just as Europeans can be found throughout North & South America

  • Would someone tell me the difference between a creole person and just the typical bi racial person (white and black). They both look the same to me. And I guess if anyone is claiming to be creole the most important factor would be the cultural aspect.

  • @wesedmond Creole is a Culture not a "Race"it's a Louisiana Culture. Our Ancestors Were from a separate Country New France ( Louisiana )Our Ancestors spoke Creole were Free Citizens of France & had a totally different Culture. Many of Our ancestors came From Haiti during the Haitian Revolution.. When America Bought Louisiana from France We became Citizens of America overnight although America has Absorbed Our People We are still Creoles.Haitian & Louisiana Creole share the same Language

  • @augustinecomeaux If creole is a culture then how much of Louisiana's Creole culture has been retained for them to maintain their Créole identity? Most of you don't speak the language anymore and have been absorbed into either White or Black communities, so how many of you lot are still truly Créole?

  • @lexdiamonds1990 You got it wrong again...Just where are you getting this information. We Creoles are alive and well regardless of the mixing in to the White and African American Cultures. Again it goes to show just how little You know about Us and Our community.Have You ever been to Louisiana .There are still large Creole speaking communities and We almost always keep in touch with one another. It's so sad that the World knows so little about Us...These statements are really quite silly

  • @augustinecomeaux I have been, and the majority of people I've encountered do not speak Créole, and the majority of Francophone Louisianans have told me outright that the language is dying out and hardly any young people still speak it. Communities still exist certainly, but if young people don't use Creole or French as an everyday language can anyone realistically say the culture will be viable in 25 or 50 years?

  • @wesedmond Im French Creole, and it is a unique blend of Spanish, French and African American. Most come from France,

  • thanks- I guess there is so much in this world we do not know-it would also explain the creoles from the indian ocean who have no relation to French Louisiana whatsoever

  • and also slaves did not come first-it was first master then slave-why would white people refer themselves to a group of people they thought inferior--it would make more sense that a slave would highten his/her situation by associating himself as offspring of masters---not want to argue but all the websites out there say very different things than what is being said here

  • @vaughangarrick That's not necessarily the case here. Not all Blacks that came to the New World came in bondage.there were many Free Blacks that came as conquistadores and as citizens of France Spain and Portugal.Don't forget that the Moors many of the African Race still lived in Southern Europe after their defeat & also there were African Colonies along the trade route where Africans and Whites mingled Freely. These dictionaries are very skewed indeed. The True History has yet to be revealed

  • @vaughangarrick

Many of these same web sites are stuck on the old definitions that date back to slavery and were only defined as such to discredit people of the Black Race...It is well documented that the Historical Definition states that the Word was invented by the Negro to infer the mixing of the Races ..The Europeans adopted this word afterwords.History has a way to be skewed when it relates to the African Race...Visit Our Creole web site and see for Yourself Our History

  • @augustinecomeaux Thats bullshit white french in America were called Crreole as an american french term also.

  • but whatever the origins we must take into account what is now considered creole and I suppose it is about blood line as well as how you feel-e.g I am white and I live in South Africa therefore I am an african-my white aunt moved to america married a man from Utah and her ID says she's african American----the colour of your skin does not give you any inclination of what you are inside

  • Thanks Augustine for the clarification but as I said on wikiipedia they are adament that it refered to the french who were born in the colonies they owned slaves and I assume if the master slept with a slave girl and she had a baby that child would consider itself creole for many beneficial reasons hence a new group of people called creole. On another sight about the state of Louisiana they say the same thing-a common misconception that creole out and out means mixed when in fact it doesn't?

  • @vaughangarrick There are a lot of flaws in this info...First of all the name Creole infers Mixing of the Races..Creoles worldwide speak Creole French not French and the original colonist certainly did not.. Its a language developed in Africa. Also Creole Culture originated in West Africa not the Americas. Not all Creoles are products of Forced rape by slave masters. In Louisiana Whites and Blacks willing mixed, you must remember it was a Latin Culture not English and on and on and on

  • but thanks for this video it has definitely helped me to understand what is considered creole today---and what a fantastic and complicated mix of history culture and cuisine etc---I can almost smell the gumbo and the magnolias

  • I'm confused with this video-it's clear that creoles go the whole colour divide and nationalities etc but in wikipedia it says that it was first refered to french (white) people born in the colonies of america then broadly applied to slaves and mixed blood who also saw themselves as creole----so what is it then?

  • @vaughangarrick Lets clarify the issue. The term originally applied to the first born slaves in the New World because they were neither Black White nor Native American but a combination of all thus a Created Race. The Word in Spanish means "Creer" or to Create. The word latter applied to the First born European colonist.Creoles can be found throughout the Americas & the Islands off the coast of Africa.Today Creole is considered a "Culture".In America most Creoles have ancestral ties to Louisiana

  • It seems that people in the US really struggle with the term "Creole". I understand why due to the history following the Louisiana Purchase (I'm from the US, but live in France (hubby is French)). When a Frenchman uses the term Creole, it has the same meaning it had when they occupied the Louisiana Territory. It simply means someone of African descent who was born in the Louisiana territory, the Americas, or in Ile-de-Reunion. Interestingly, the term has now been bastardized by Americans...

  • @GullahGritsGal

I'd also like to note that although Americans now refer to Louisiana as the current state proper, before the Louisiana Purchase, "Louisiana" was what is now Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, etc. This is why much of the same foods can be found in these regions, as well as French city/state names.

  • @GullahGritsGal Oops, I almost forgot...I should also state that the term Creole refers to said people of African descent (whether or not they are of mixed "race") who descended from the people of African descent in the Louisiana territory (circa before the Louisiana Purchase, the Americas (including the French Antilles), and etc, DURING COLONIZATION.

  • Just because you are light skinned does not make you creole and just because you are dark skinned does not stop you from being creole. Creole is a combination of mixed bloodline and mixed culture. If you are half white and half black; that does not automatically make you creole. You cannot be creole without some form of creole culture.

  • Just why are You coming to all these Conclusions about this Video. Why are You injecting skin color Every time some one of the Black Race comes on to this Video Skin Color becomes an Issue just when Will Black America Appreciate things as they are instead of throwing in the Race card..The word Creole Means to "Create" in Spanish and is indicative of Multi Racial People.True there are Black and White Creoles but many if not the Majority are Mixed Race. This Video is about Multi Racial Creoles

  • @augustinecomeaux Are we not all talking about race? You criticize me because I am talking about race and culture just like you is ridiculous.

  • @MsMig88 Hey nobody said anything about skin color except You.I am Also a Proud Multi Racial Creole. My Parents spoke Creole & lived the Creole Life.We were Brought up as Louisiana Creoles.True,Creoles do not only come from Louisiana & are not only Multi-Racial.People stereo type & say that Lighter skinned Creoles are in Denial but that is far from the Truth.I'm a Chicago Creole Raised in the Ghetto & I really caught hell so this Bigotry can go both ways. Thanks for getting the story straight

  • Your language and historical facts are not correct. Creole, or Criolla, does not mean 'to create' it means 'native' as in 'originally from here'. Creoles in the Caribbean and surrounding areas including Louisiana were the original settlers as opposed to new immigrants.

It had nothing whatsoever to do with races or a mixture of races. There could, and still are, white Creoles, black creoles, indian creoles and of course there are creoles of color, which is another name for mixed race.

  • @Audnorgeand neither are Yours .The Word "Creole" in Latin is a derivative of the Word Creer meaning to "Create".It was meant to refer to those that were neither Black, White or Native American but a combination of all thus a created Race.It referred to those from Guiana as opposed to those Slaves born in Africa.Of course there are White, Black Creoles. This word was then adopted by the European Colonizers .I'd like to know where Your info comes from Some documentation would be helpful

  • @augustinecomeaux ...Are You Creole ??...Apparently not ...because You got it all wrong...It amazes Me when someone other then Creole can boldly define and with justification determine what someone else should be or can be called...We are living History of over 400 years and I do believe We can indentify who We rightfully are..

  • @augustinecomeaux I have degrees in history from two New Orleans universities in Louisiana and Caribbean history . I apologize if my previous post was contentious, I apologize, we share a similar interest and my intention was not to put you on the defense or offend your work., which I enjoyed. I would like to email some links, my name at Yahoo. Audnorge

  • Great video!

  • hey thats my cousins at 1:26

  • One-Drop=one pop (from my shotgun) HA HA HA!

  • Sorry my greatgrandmother's mom was a creole, I wasn't sure about her dad he possibly full blooded native american.

  • May Greatgrandmother was creole, just curious does that make me creole.

  • Yes....%50

  • @4.44 How does the old Mammy image fit into proud Creole heritage?

  • @4:44

  • @RebelAllianceMedia

There's no "Old Mammy" image on this video Boss., not unless My eyes are deceiving Me....When You find it let Me know ..I'm just wondering what are You getting at

  • @augustinecomeaux I put @4:44 Click on it!

  • lol

  • creole came from the spanish word corillo , witch meant of pure race. Parts of the south used to belong to spain. In Louisiana the spanish and the newer french people called themselfs creole to mean they are from pure european decent. I dont know how the mixed people somehow adopted that word to describe them. Kinda wierd.

  • We are not creoles we are Africans first dat the white man lie creole to separate us don't fall for it brothers and sisters love from sierra leone

  • I also agree with hwiseman1. I think people need to remember who and what made up the one drop rule. It was not us. This was taught to SLAVES by Slavemasters. People are basically saying they agree with slave mentality.

  • Hmmm... where are all of these loving wonderful Frenchmen today?

  • Its kinda cool to see my relatives in this video . Thanks for the post augustinecomeaux .

  • Cane river creole!

  • More information about Creole. First Creole was not Louisiana because Haiti was the hold French empire with all other like Spain Portugal, cologne, Angles and many others. Haitians get the Creole language together. The Creole is formulate with a combines of mostly with, West Africans webs, freinch, Arabic words, thaino Indian Spanish words and English.

  • Here We go again...Just what does it take for People to know that not everything is Black,Black Black,There is a whole World out there of Mixed Race and Multi Racial People who have a story of there own to tell..It seem that If You don't say Black Power loud enough You are not Black enough ..Well I got news for you We all don't think like You...Why aren't you going on the black Videos and asking them to put some Creoles on their Videos. Why do You have to throw the Race issue into the picture..

  • Not all Creoles look White.I get very hostile responses from My videos because I show most of the Creoles to be light skinned.most Creoles are mixed Race but We come in all shades and Colors.Unfortunantly I don't have much info on Dark skinned Creoles. The word Creole was originally bestowed on the mixed Race People from Louisiana and the West Indies because they were neither Black, Indian or White but a mix of all.I'd More then welcome any info on Dark skinned Creoles so I can post them too.

  • Good Job

I'm french creole woman of Martinique island

    Fière de ma culture CREOLE..

CREOLES nous sommes liés à jamais par notre HISTOIRE hors du commun..

Les autres ne peuvent pas comprendre

    Merci pour cette vidéo....

  • WHO THE HELL CARES?! There are beautiful women of ALL colors. This was stupid back in the 50's and it's stupid now. I am so happy I am so much more than a color or a race. I'm ME and if you don't like it that's tough for you.

  • what about the darkskin creoles?

  • What about them ??...Maybe you can send Me some photos and I'll be glad to create a New Video..Have You forgotten that their are White Creoles too..why don't we just include them all...Besides who's making this Video You or Me? Do You have anything positive to say ??

  • @quepasa3000 Its not about skin color..,you have to get the ski color out opf your head.We are aculture of spanish Indian and french heritage.Ive goit uncles with Blue Eyes dark striaght hairand black skin. Its a look... not a skin color if anything.

  • Why not just view yourself as mixed race?

  • @augustinecomeaux Have you ever been told you look like Jim Jones.

  • gfc56

If You got something to say come out with it, I'm curious?

  • @augustinecomeaux I dont have any agenda, just saying you look a tad bit like Jim Jones. No offense intended. Peace

  • Thanks for getting back to Me..I wish all My responses were as cool as Yours...Thanks Much..

  • Your videos are so well done.

  • You are right ! louisiana creoles to me i don't consider them to be part of the mainstream black usa community because of their "Creole" heritage !

They were not traditionally or historically part of the USA !

I agree with you that you should not lose your culture !

  • @natsumi216 because its more than just a mixed race. There is a whole culture and history behind us. many creole families have been in Louisiana since before the 1700's

  • @natsumi216 There is more to it then mix race.

  • I don't really know what You are saying .You don't make any sense..Try speaking Standard English rather then this idiotic Language..It sounds like You are under the influence.Something is very strange here..sounds Like You are trying to clown My video.

  • To me black, white, yellow, or brown are colors and are determined by the color of ones skin. Black, white, etc are not really races to me but a cover up just to remind every individual how different we are. To me when it comes to titles, like Italian, African, Latin and so forth, it further difficults everything. These titles are determine by where we were born or where our ancestors were born, not based on blood type. We're all human at the end of the day, so who cares.

  • Creole is a Culture and not a Racial misnomer...Creoles are of the Black Race..Many Creoles are Mixed Race and Black and We have Indian, Spanish White blood . We are many Races.Creoles are usually someone or their Ancestors that shares a Louisiana Creole Culture.

  • Surely this is Fats Domino singing this first song?

  • Bad information!!! The word Creole is a corruption by the French of the Spanish word creatura, meaning creation. In its strict interpretation it means a White person born in the New World of French or Spanish ancestry.

  • Stop spreading this Incorrect meaning of the Word Creole and stop reading these White Orientated Dictionaries that have these outdated Definitions that date back to the days of Slavery..Wake Up and stop this Cultural genocide

  • I am spreading the truth. When the Spanish took over from the French, they often called their children " Creatura " meaning creations. The French corrupted the word into Criole, and back into the Spanish language as Criollo. It meant a White person of French or Spanish parentage born in the New World. Later on they applied it to slaves, food, etc. If you are not happy with the truth, well thats just too bad. Sorry.

  • I'm not sure what You are trying to tell Me...The word Creole is of Portuguese origins not African.....In certain Creole speaking Countries it is Spelled "Kreole" and others it is spelled "Creole' depending upon the Creole dialect spoken....The Portuguese and the French Colonized Much of West Africa and therefore those People mixed their Native Languages and out Came the Creole Language

  • all those nations are Creoles? hahhahahha

  • Most anthropologists would argue that there is no such thing as race in terms of genetics. The genetic makeup of humans is to similar whether you live in africa or alaska are dna is for the most part the same. In other words race is a created idea and not something that is phsyical. The only difference we have as human beings is our different cultures. and i personally believe that difference in cultures is what makes the world such a great place.

  • No, We don't owe Africa for Gumbo .You are absolutely right Creole Gumbo is a Louisiana Original. It's a Mix of Creole and Cajun Cultures though the Original Gumbo is a Creole thing.I'm not an expert but Our Ingredients, Makes Our Creole Gumbo by far better. The Shrimp,Chicken, Beef ,Pork along with the Roux,a Louisiana Gravy, makes Creole Gumbo delicious. Not all People who cook Gumbo use Okra.Personally for Me though it adds good flavor to the Gumbo I rather do without it cause it's a bit slimy
