  • HOLY SHIT THAT WORked for me (for the moment)

the most hard thing is to remove the heatpipe for the first time, I was afraid to broke something

    thank you

  • in my pc I cant put drivers in, so im working with standard vga graphics adapter. My question is: after repair like you, can I detect my vga? or put drivers in?

  • faking Packard Bell !!!

  • Worked for me (for now...). Thanks!!

  • fuck the music!!!

  • You always take out the battery before doing any work on your laptop

  • Ya I agree with the dude below me, should have replaced the thermal compound.

  • people you need to clean the old thermal paste of the nv chip then heat the nv chip up to about 230 degrees c cannot be done with hair dryer for long term fix the buy some arctic silver 5 and put this solution on the nv chip nice n thinly not to thick then polish your copper contact and away you go i have done this on my hp pavillion v9000 series and works a charm been working now for a year no probs

  • @TheOriginalRaiKon And with what do i heat it up to 230 degrees c??

  • It did work on my ASUS F3Sv. Thanks heaps.

  • This worked for me on my old TaccoBell SB86 (8600m GT)

Now let's just see how long until it starts fucking up again.

  • Το έκανα αυτο με το πιστολάκι αλλά δεν έφτιαξε... μήπως φταίει επειδή μια άλλη φορά που το είχα ανοίξει είχα αφαιρέσει αυτο το άσπρο πανί πάνω στο chip της κάρτας;

  • thermal paste??

  • you do really use a hairdryer... original and helpful / cheaper then heat gun at least

  • Personally I think they bumped up the voltage i.e. overclocked this GPU to get a better performance from it. One should really look at that as a permanent solution. The voltage regulators are located on the mobo. By changing 1 or 2 resistors you can drop the voltage to the GPU. Lower voltage = lower wattage = less heat = slower GPU but at least a reliable device.

  • My Packard Bell started displaying 6 identical small screens. After reading about it, this is a problem that affects all 8400 and 8600 GPUs. Laptop or Desktop. On the Packard Bell I intend to reball the GPU and then have it reflowed. Lucky I do hardware design so I have the contacts. Next step good thermal conducting compound and a copper shim between the GPU and the heat pipe. Perhaps a small aluminium block around the GPU isolated with a silicon pad, finally mod the fan to keep it on always.

  • The problem lies with the CPU connection to the substrate. The correct way to repair this problem is to reball the GPU or to reflow it in a PROFESSIONAL oven, preferably both. These ovens take the the components up to the correct temperature using a programmed cycle. When the board reaches a certain temp it is then really heated for a VERY short period of time and finally the board is allowed to cool down at a programmed rate. Reduces thermal stress and gives a uniform result. My 2 cents. QB

  • It didn't work for me.. Why I have the black screen issue now? :(

  • You're doing it wrong! I had the same issue with an MacbookPro where the 8600GT wasn't showing any graphics. I took off the heat sink, placed a DVM with temperature meassure on the GPU, turned the laptop on, waited till the temperature was about 110 degrees and after 10 seconds i turned it off. Replaced the heat sink, started the laptop and it worked again... sinced about 6 months now. Alternatively you can also bake your motherboard at 220 degrees for 6-8 minutes. Just my 2 cents...

  • fantastic, i used the same method for my acer 7520g's removable 8600m gs video card and works like charm :p

  • thank you for the video, did eight minutes of this and the gpu has been working since dec 2010.

  • well, thank you for the post...I have ASUS A7S with Windows Vista...I'll try to fix it, I have the same problem, well only I want to say...I'm worry with the thermalcompound, it's necessary to replace it? And whera I can buy? thanks

  • @tubetototube any computer shop will sell it. get some "arctic silver" or something as good. oh and dont use a hair dryer....get yourself a heat gun. They are cheap and this way you can do the job right and for long term. Plus you will keep the heat gun for the future.

  • ellhnara!!! ;)

  • I still can´t believe that this actually works! Fixed my 8600 gt.. Thanks a lot

  • hey man this laptops works now ???

  • Backard Bell? How to SIMPLY repair Backard Bell overheated Nvidia GeForce 8600m gs or any other chip with similar problem WITH NON PROFESSIONAL "TOOLS"

  • Shocking thermal solutions on these laptops 1 heatpipe serving the cpu, gpu and chipset is it any wonder they finally fry themselves to oblivion.

  • @ElensarFFXI

Look closely. There are 2 heatpipes on this cooling element.

It also depends a lot on the TDP of CPU, GPU and chipset, but also the volume of airflow. Many laptops do just fine with no heatpipes.

But yeah, sometimes there is shocking thermal design on laptops. Battery too close to heat sources, too small air vents etc. Most of the time it is beneficial to remove exhaust grilles, and even make some extra holes. Thermal compound re-application does wonders.

  • Lol did you never overheated the dryer by using it that way? I uses my gas burner for my reflow :)

  • LOL they still make Packard Bell computers???

  • waste of time put it in the bin

  • Just did this on my Fujitsu Siemens Xi2428 and it worked, added a new layer of thermal paste also... looking for a replacement card, hope it will hold till I get one.

  • you forgot to put new thermal paste on. all your chips will now overheat.

  • lol didn't work here., now i have to buy a new hairdrier for my girl ;)

  • and i blew at the gpu for like a minute or two. And another 2 at the RAM....maybe its just the better cooling since i replaced the cooling pads and added thermal compound. (figure, the GPU had no contact to its original pad since there was a piece of metal between gpu die and the pad, which wasnt pressing very good at the gpu. And the ram had no connection to the Cooler too...)

  • i tried the same with my Asus Z53S (Geforce 8400M) And yes, the stock cooling was really crap! Now finally, after this procedure, the the cooler itself becomes really hot and cools down a bit when the fan goes. But i guess thats a good thing, the cooler takes the heat away from the gpu. first i was scared that after 2 reboots the gfx were still broken. But now it's working. Even though the heatpipe becomes hotter, there are no bugs so far. Its a bit like repairing my Xbox360. (Same problem.) :P

  • How long did you keep blowing at the gpu?

  • its a reflow amirite?

  • Way didn't you redo the entire cooling system (new thermal paste, thermal pads etc) after reflow? It might solve the problem for more than a year...

  • @cd4600 *why not way

  • thanks for the nice tip. it worked for me as well on a Acer Aspire 7520G. I m on day 3 and gpu is working normally.

  • ya tiene experiencia, ami que se descompuso la laptop como 20 veces lol

  • Δε μου λές, έχουν και... Ελληνικά WINDOWS εκεί στο... Gibraltar ; ! ;-)

  • Hello! I have a packard bell Mb 65 with chipset video card just like you. I want to tray your method. Cand you tell me how long does it work if i used this guide with aproximation? Thanks !

  • @BivolaruGuru

just try it and tell as...

  • That worked for me thanks a lot man this helped so much THANKS!

  • i tried it and it really works!!!!

    thank u my friend

    hat wunderbar funktioniert

    vielen dank

  • THANK YOU, THANK YOU !!!

This method worked for my Dell D630. You saved me from buying a hot air gun People if you going to use this method I recommend you guard all the other components with aluminum foil and just focus the heat on the graphics chip for 3min with setting on hair dryer to high heat and place it quite close to the chip.

  • Ok thanks for that info

  • I have a MB88 P-003 LE that has the same problem. The dryer trick didn't work for me. Do you know if I can remove the chip from the board and replace it with one. Theres an identical chip on ebay in new condition but I wouldn't know how to install it. I miss having my laptop :(

  • @games4850 don't bother to buy an other chip because 90% the prob is on contact

so try to send it for re balling ------------------------>

  • I wrote a few weeks ago a message where I told that this worked for my Acer aspire laptop.. however, this way is a TEMPORARY way to fix the problem. The only problem is the chip that needs to be heated up before switching on the laptop.. after its swiched on the computer works! But once you swich off the laptop and it gets cold the problem comes again and the laptop wont start. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO FIX THE PROB PERMAMENTLY? Please help, thanks!

  • ποιο προγραμμα τρεχεις για ελεγχο θερμοκρασιας., ευχαριστω...?

  • So is there any way to permanently repair it?, I had it repaired like that but its only a matter of weeks until it does it again and recently it was only a matter of 1 or 2 days and it didn't do any extraordinary work just some internet browsing :s

  • @pevlez Got mine repaired this way I'm testing my laptop intensively on 1080p videos.

  • @pevlez

Use a heatgun, also add thermal paste and a copper shim. Good Luck.

  • @pevlez what do you expect from a hair dryer fix? Buy a heat-gun (they are cheaper than hairdryers) and heat it up until you see the soldering on the chip getting shiny (it means its melted) then press the chip down gently with something for a few seconds until the soldering solidify again. No re-balling usually needed, and it is a long term fix. I have a laptop given to me fixed this way over a year now.

  • nu kan ik zelfs opnieuw mijn nvidiakaart ten volle benutten

  • I just fixed my packard bell this way, it works,

    thanks

    bedankt

  • I just fixed my packard bell this way, it works,

    thanks

Net mijn laptop op deze manier hersteld,

    bedankt

  • Thank you so much man! This helped to fix my computer!! I have an Acer Aspire 7520g with Nvidia GeForce 8600m gs, and I did the same as you, but I didint take off the components completely. Just screwed out the plastic thing and heated the 3D card for a couple minutes. After the operation the computer was working!!! THANKS!!!

  • i had problem of nvidia gforce 8600gt when i install it installs but sometime it stops and held then when i restart then at windows xp loading it stops Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is that a hairdryer or a real heatgun?

  • @sonofkikkoman It must be a hairdryer but it works!! I already done it to my 9800GT this morning and -after 3 days of green vertical lines, red dots, and flashing symbols instead of characters- I GOT IT BACK thanks to this video. Thank U Baraccudas !!!!

  • @NikolasKS

huh 9800GT ? you are speaking desktop model or lappy model ? i have though to build new PC and though to buy 9800GT... dont say its doing the same thing...

  • @shotgunmasterQL Yes I'm speaking for the desktop model of 9800GT. I'm using this card for 2 years in Hybrid SLI mode with the onboard NV8300, so I turn it on only when I'm playing games, no heavy usage etc.

If you ask me, this card is very good with great performance and I know many "happy" users, so I can't say that the whole 9800 series is problematic, but i found many videos here from people with the same problem as mine. Anyway, hairdryer and new thermal grease works fine for me :)

  • Changed your video card to nvidia 9600m gt or something.

  • @gh3860 you can't change it if it's intergrated on the motherboard.

  • @sonofkikkoman I can change mine Benq S41 joybook because its mxm type III. BTW this card dies after 8 moths of heavy usage.

  • This Guy Is Mad Mad To The Bones

  • kai....... auto einai pistolaki g t mallia etsi ?

  • You said "temporary fix"...

So... how long does it work if i used this guide ?

    1 week ? 1 month ?

  • @ZackFair1103

it will work as long as u pray :p

  • @baraccudas lolwut ?

how long did it work for you ?

oh, w8... lol eisai ellinas :P xD

  • @baraccudas kai me poio programma kaneis temperature check :P ?

  • @ZackFair1103 it is called pirform speccy

  • @baraccudas xaxaxa! foverh apantish! :-)

  • @ZackFair1103 - give your stuff for rewrok/reball a lot of ppl do it, once the reball / reflow station was 3k+ for low end now you can get one for 250$ + 150$ stencils / balls/ flux and all you need and start a shop, after breaking 10+ boards :) you'll be a ninja master / if not retarded / :) 20-30$ services are available and with fully changed chip they can do it for like 50$ at most - ask and bargain, original chip with balls is 10$ so why not make 20-30 and do the job for 30-40$?

  • How are you able to check the temp of th hardware like that?

  • @legalize000

    simly with Speecy

    piriform com /speccy

  • Could you explain why and how this fixes the problem.

  • @legalize000

    this is REFLOW

    home edition

  • works ;) (I used a hairdryer, 2)

  • Comment removed

  • Change the thermal grease before replacing the rad ;). And do not do it with a hairdryer, do it with a heat gun. With this, your laptop should work a veeeery long time (I've done that on 2 laptops 6 months ago and it's actually working)

  • WOW! I can't believe it :) it actually worked.

  • It is working man, thanks a million !!!

  • always clean you chip! never do this WITHOUT your videocard not cleaned, others it will dry, bake in and melt with the chip and you trow away your card!

  • I have the same graphic card and one day my computer couldnt play my game. So i looked on the drivers and it was saying that there was a problem "code 43". I unistall and reinstall drivers but nothing happened. I installed again windows 7 and still the problem was there. When i open my pc everything is ok, but i cant play games. Do you think that this will solve my problem?

  • U need to put new thermal paste!!!

  • I just used a mini torch 3 seconds... lifted the heat sink piece off the chip and put it back together .. fired up xps m1530 back up and whala ... I am typing this message on it right now...

  • @Your32Maker ... so much for the fix... no more bootup... will try the fix once again later...

  • I tried this method and it seemed repaired ... but after a couple of hours he returned as before = (

  • I did like you said & I got my 8600 up & running on a DV9543cl. Make sure you clean the fan and cooling fins thoroughly so that it does'nt happen again. Probably the best thing to do is put a 1.5 mil copper sheet between the gpu and the cooling bar. Very bad design by HP & Nvidia.

  • Thank you so much baraccudas! I have an HP dv9540us that has problems when running 3d apps, webcam video, hdmi out, and media center (it crashes with striping on the screen. I will try your fix.

  • Its only temporary fix! You do it wrong ! You have to take your mobo out and secure other chips with Alu foil.then add some Flux under chip and use Hot ait gun to reflow it. YOu used hair dryer which isnt good.! Then improve cooling!!
