  • 3 dislikes what the F*** is that.

  • Lets not worry bout the AM! sell out for just 3minutes and admire what could be one of the best songs ever written

"no one is lonely in a dream" for some reason, thats always stuck with me

  • my sister made a drawing of there cover and wrote every word on my dresser i love you

  • There are two people who need a better bed.

  • Two future presidents disliked this video.

  • This song makes me want to cry.

    A lot.

  • @jellyb0ness This song made me cry every night. It made me think of a woman who was definitely not worth it, and was introduced to me by a woman who was.

  • @Hister333 Deep

  • Who on Earth would dislike this?

I love this record. I don't listen to much punk, but I fucking love this record.

  • "And the sun's always rising in the sky somewhere..."

All the arguing and I guess no one but AM themselves can truly tell whether they sold out or not. But, even if they did, it would be who they are now and can we really ask them to change that for us? We'd still have all that beautiful, meaningful music left, isn't that all we can ask for... The opposite would pretty much sound like, "Fuck that fucker Cobain, how dare he die and stop making the music we liked him to..."

  • @two20girl true that, touching song

  • @skyninja53 They didn't sell out, they changed! In "I Used to be a Teenage Anarchist" they say "I was a teenage anarchist, But the politics were too convenient". They matured and realized that complete anarchy and a no class system would never be successful in todays globalized and criminalized society. It would be mass chaos, for anarchy to be successful you would need to get 100% of the worlds population in for it. The only thing you can get 100% of the worlds population to do is DIE!!

  • Just for the idiots out there: Anarchism is the SAME THING as free capitalism. Where you go to the market, and buy the BEST goods, not the ones that are the only available. It is NOT socialism. So, if you wanna be an anarchist, don't shop at Wal-Mart, or SHUT UP.

  • @Hister333 Benjamin Tucker, Peter Kropotkin, Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, Mikhail Bakunin, Emma Goldman, Colin Ward, Rudolf Rocker, Buenaventura Durruti, and the majority of anarchist history would disagree.

  • @citizen0anonymous I pulled this from the second paragraph of Wikipedia. Not hard at all... However, anarchism has always included an individualist strain supporting a market economy and private property, or morally unrestrained egoism.[10][11][12] You can argue the citations yourself.

  • @Hister333 I'm fully aware of that. Apparently you don't know who Benjamin Tucker is, the first person I cited? It says nothing about capitalism there. Tucker and Proudhon were individualists who believed in the private possession of property versus private ownership of property. Lookup Kevin Carson, the mutualist anarchist for fuller discussions of that. Capitalist anarchism, whether you want to call it true or not, is a recent development since about the 50s or 60s.

  • @citizen0anonymous I pulled my knowledge of anarchist philosophy from the philosophies of Sacco And Vanzetti, who were dead by the '50s.

  • This video would have been better without all the political imagery.

  • We are all connected, by what is up to your own interpretation. Bottom line, the world needs more compassion, less greed. This an an amazing song with awesome pix. Thought provoking.

  • I think this version is off Reinventing Axl Rose.

It also appeared on Live& Acoustic.

  • What album is this off of?

  • Old times ...

  • :')

  • or possibly the most inspirational

  • damn that is a sad song if i have ever heard one

  • Tom Gabel could be Springsteen if he bitched about himself less, and talked about the country I'm assuming he loves. It made him rich, right?

  • @Hister333 you do realize born in the usa isnt a patriotic song right?

  • @RAOULDUKE2006 Born in the USA was written about Ron Kovic, who lost use of his legs in the Vietnam War. Bruce Springsteen sings about where the American Dream meets the American Reality. He criticizes what we do with love for what we are, just like Woody Guthrie did. So, yes.

  • One day, we will be free.

  • I love this song.

  • I love this song, pictures went good.

  • Beautiful Song...

  • This and pints. Everything else is bad, maybe 35%

  • I of course agree that you can't keep putting out the same album over and over again HOWEVER, it would be nice if they still sounded like the same band. I really really tried to defend the new album, until I heard it. It's not bad, it's good actually, a very solid ROCK album. As I expected the songs ARE much better live...album versions are far too polished and Tom doesn't even sound like Tom...so sad! But they guys are still awesome and their shows are still fantastic!

  • @anjustice83 i saw them for the first time live a few weeks ago, soooooooo great, all they did was play old song's, i fucking loved it

  • i agree with people who say u cant sing about teenage rebellion and anarchy ur whole life, in their latest song, i wasa teenage anarchist, is seems like it was his farwell to arachism and onto a new era

  • Against Me! will never be the same :(..It's a shame..I remember being a 16 year old kid, being as excited as I've ever been about going going to a show where they played "Baby, I'm an Anarchist", "Jordan's First Choice", and other REAL songs. Now, these teenage kids just have another generic punk band....they might still make good music, but it will never be the same

  • yes i do Agree, they're old stuff is much better, it has those lyrics that make you think about what they were realy singing about, But they aren't like a giant band, making a career move to a major label isn't a bad thing, and I still find that there doing somthing diffrent with punk rock, there not realy a "generic band".

and listening to tom gabels solo album show that he is still true to what he believes

  • I feel the same. When they made searching for a former clarity I was like this isn't bad, but I didn't like any songs from New Wave. So I guess for me it really died after As the eternal cowboy.

  • @bairhsnyva go see them live, its pretty much the same, im 22 and ive been following this band for years, there live shows are still so energetic and amazing

  • there is no "fixing" a corrupt and failed system. it was never designed to succeed.

  • "selling out" and musical progression are two entirely different thigns. Ever consider that maybe the band, being composed of human beings, may have changed over the years, and that maybe their influences evolved along with their experiences? Don't label what you don't understand my friend...

  • @Heyjude702 Thank you. While there is a hell of a lot of "selling out", many fail to see musical progression as well as the personal progression of band members. Often, IMO, its for the better.

  • @LMcL17 I agree. People change, and in most situations (maybe this one), mature. You can't sing angry teenage songs of rebellion your whole life, you'd look like an idiot.

  • I tried covering this song on my acoustic one night, at a cafe'. I did alright, i mean, it's a really easy song, but nobody can do it like Gabel does it. His voice is just so ..... honest

  • god i love this song....our world has soo many fucking problems.

  • Call them sellouts or whatever you will. I however, will call them one of the most amazing bands I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. whether it be new wave, searching, or RAR, Tom's voice is a refreshing dose of originality in a world of nickelbacks!

  • @anjustice83

in a world of nicklebacks.lol im so glad im not alone

  • @71190Neko haha fuck nickleback

  • according to wikipedia the bass is moog synthesizer

  • oh alright thanks, its the xylophone i couldnt identify

  • can someone tell me what the instrument that isnt guitar is on this song

    i cant figure it out

  • I believe it is a xylophone =]

  • I grew up partying to these songs....brings back good memories .......

    ah the 90's

  • what the fuck are you talkin about "the 90s" they didn't release anything till like 01-02 you crazy bastard

  • indeed, they begun in 1997. But they did not released an album until 2002. Before that they did released a few LPs. and sold their music at their concerts.

  • Hell yea, this song is so sick man

    the lyrics r so good

  • i would say that against me! abandoned most of what i loved about them when they saw the opportunity to get big. the message is gone, the honesty is gone, the rage is gone, the DIY ethic is gone.

  • what the fuck are YOU talking about??? you really think that these are trying to "get big" dont you think you would see and hear a shit load of there music on the radio and mtv bullshit

  • um, well, firstly, not everyone who tries to get big succeeds. they've transitioned into playing i style of music that's much less original than they used to be, and their shows have gone from being cheap and in simple venues (basements and bookstores across and underground america!) to being in, well, stadiums and shit. and i have seen them on tv before, actually. not as much as some other bands, but a hell of a lot more than other folkpunk bands. and they've pretty much abandoned anarchism.

  • ehh music is music i think ther ok regaurdless of the belifs

  • well actually there are some recent videos on youtube of Against Me playing in small areas and some basements. They crowd is right aside of them singing every word. It's amazing.. they still know their roots. And tom may not express anarchy as much, but he stated that the ideals of it will always be with him.

  • the videos are recent, the actual footage isnt... in those videos they do not play any songs from their new album.

  • couldnt agree more...

  • @anarcrustie im pretty sure they were never anarchists.

  • @1223dude1223 mm, they definitely had pretty explicit anarchist lyrical content early on especially in Vivida Vis!-

The land that sustains our existence has been locked in shackles and chains. Then raped by the flags and the tyrants. Poisoned by the power trips of the insane. So you look around, and you pick your plot and you dig your own fucking grave. Or you take your stand and you wage your war, in the name of Anarchy

that`s Once Pure. Natonal Myth is also good

  • thats what they do by nature thats how they've gone from tom gabel playing accoustic at open mic nights by against me! to this great band

  • beautiful beautiful song.

  • this song is sad but its still good

  • this song is the shit

  • i listin to this before bed always

  • against me! was great when they started. their new stuff totally blows

  • theyre still amazing, they just are more sarcastic, just watch any new video by them, and if you really know them youll see that they dont take it seriously.

  • This man is right.

  • I agree.

I like the sound of their old stuff better, but I definitely don't consider them sell outs. They're just trying out different stuff.

  • finally someone who thinks what i do

honestly everyones just bitching about how much they sold out, when you blatently see that they make fun of themselves in the stop video, and in the new wave video tom picks up the record and snaps it in pieces... .Symbolism people symbolism

  • Exactly.

They're trying out different sound, it just happened to get recognized, and they don't seem to be very happy about it. Instead of just deciding that they're sell outs since you can (rarely) hear them on the radio, maybe people should start watching and listening...

  • :)

    lol xMissDomino your awesome :D

  • Why thank you, love :)

  • no problem at all :)

send me a friend invite :D

  • beautiful.....

  • COCKBURN

  • what are the chords

  • c, a(but only with the 1st two fingers), f. then a g.

  • mostly C, Em, F with a touch of G :)

  • aint it a A5 instead of Em? Thats how i play it. With a capo on first fret, i dunno. My guitar just might be fucked.

  • dunno man I just found the tab online :o

  • Your guitar is a little of out tune then.

The song is played with no capo in standard tuning.

  • I love this song!

  • i put that to where he says, "from all the lies they've been told."

  • @spiltanarchy I see what you did there.

  • @spiltanarchy Because all the true anarchists hate religion, right?

  • @ChunkyPirate

"Because all the true anarchists hate religion, right?"

No, not necessarily. I know there are some religious anarchists, also. But with Christianity specifically, it's just my personal opinion that many of the values that are taught in the scriptures contradict anarchist values.

However, I don't think religion will ever be eliminated, so I'm mostly in favor of secularism (where everyone respects each others' beliefs instead of murdering each other over them).

  • @spiltanarchy Mneh, it's an interpretation thing but nobody wants to talk about the logistics of it, it's much easier when the line is drawn like that, kna mean Brotato Chip?

  • @spiltanarchy Do not label yourself, be yourself and only yourself. That is all the universe asks.

  • @spiltanarchy a religion is an organised system of beliefs. that alone defies the basic priciples of anarchy. thats not to say someone who considers themselves an anarchist can't have thier own spiritual beliefs, but the term "religion" implies something else.. to me at least. besides, if people are too dumb for science, let them kill each other because thier fairy tales don't match up. darwin would have wanted it that way...

  • @pnkrck87 Though Darwin believed in evolutionism, he never went out of his way saying that religion was bullshit. And people killing each other because of their beliefs is never good. Albert Einstein was a religious person. If someone murdered him, where would we be now technology wise? There are always going to be people that take things too far. If people want to believe in God, good for them. If they want to believe in science, I'm not going to stop them. Just live and let live.

  • @TheMeaning0fLife i would never really advocate someone killing someone else, thats just my dumb sense of humour. I cant imagine anyone who listens to tom gabels music wanting someone to die... im saying that being spiritual is different from being part of a "religion". I believe in freedom of thought and being told im a sinner by some asshole in a robe, while i drop all my change in his plate isn't my idea of free thought... just saying

  • @TheMeaning0fLife dont get me wrong, i have no contempt for people who believe the teachings of the bible, whatever gets you through right... but the capitalists who try to hock us thier sacred book (pay by credit card and get a complimentary jesus snow dome) are the worst kind of criminal.

  • @pnkrck87 Yeah, there's always going to be the minority that makes a whole group of people look like cunts. (Like the capitalists you mentioned, and the robed asshole guilting people into giving money). But putting some money in a plate at the end of a sermon is good if you enjoyed it, learned something from it or whatever.

  • How is one ideal better than another? For all you can do with christianity, you could equally do with capitalism. The sum of any idealogly vs our personal definitions of what makes yourself work, good vs bad, us for them and unity talk is fodder. If you have money, even a lot more than some, and choose to do well for himself or herself should not be something we shun. I mean you own everything you have to capitalism, that computer youre writing with has Coltan in it. Do you know how many people

  • died mining for it?

Think about that...capitalism, is awful when you don't benefit from it, right?

Think about practicing what you preach before you resemble some asshole in a robe.

  • @leftrightliars firstly, i wasnt capitalism bashing. theres a whole conversation happening if you read further. we were spaeking about how i feel that anarchy and religion can NOT, by definiton, work in harmony... as far as beliefs go, there is a line we all have to draw. and its a personal decision as to where we draw that line. i see people on $100K + a year stepping over a homeless person as greedy. if i step over the same guy and dont drop my change because i want it for my "medicine" am i

  • Well I'd say Christian Anarchists would disagree, but oh well. Nothing is absolute for anyone else, only yourself. You are who you choose to be.

  • @leftrightliars just as bad? yeah probably... fuck it were all human, i dont have the answers and i dont think you do either.

  • @spiltanarchy I think over-all there is a clash, of course. Because religion is accepting a higher power, but in Christian religion we believe God gave us free will. I know that is a huge goal of anarchists. The way I view it is more of an influence, and honestly, a society following the ten commandments without enforcement in punishment, that would be very functional. There is clashes and with religion and anarchism, as there is with human instinct and anarchism. Thats just my opinion though!

  • @spiltanarchy I love it!!

  • @spiltanarchy yo man just wanted to say ive watched/listened to most of your videos and must thank you for such a great taste in music, please keep it up and never give it up

  • That was an awesome video.

  • dude this song rules

  • listening to this song while watching anything makes it emotional and dramatic, its enchanting..

  • yes! i like the lady wearing the Dropdead shirt and the Mexican homeland sign the best! you should make a "i need a lullaby" by cap. chaos...

  • Man The Only Band Whose Ever Been Able To Make Me Cry Was Am!.. dont think its the music but more of how I relate to it and how these songs pulled me through some really messed up parts of my life.. and to this day 5 years after I first heard them im still sitting here getting lost in the music the same way I did When I Heard Sink Florida Sink!

  • seriously. no band has ever gotten me so emotional, from sad to happy to angry

  • Can you upload that song, I love ghost mice, but i haven't heard much Captain Chaos

  • My buddy Eoin and I used to sit in the park at night, and he'd play this on his acoustic. We sang it at the top of our lungs. Ah, I miss it. Such a lovely song and beautiful video!!

  • that's beautiful..

  • that's pretty awesome 8)

  • Nice one!

  • ok someone tell me...

i need to know this week! cuz imma try to learn it for something

and that thing is in 2 weeks!

    help!

  • acoustic guitar amplified

  • electroacustic guitar

  • This song is beautiful.

Sleep does really make life look better.

  • Ok, got it. Sorry but believe it or not I no longer have a turn table. I now live off cd's and MP3. Sucks too because I have a huge collection of 80's metal and 70's/80's punk on lp, and a stack of picture/shape discs, not to mention my boot legs. I just can't be bothered any more. Even though the old Marantz amp loves to pump it. Sorry Cavaliar for the comment, too bad you are still a douch for profiling.

  • When you sleep, no one is homeless

  • damn good.

had never heard the song. i liked it a lot.

    great photos too.

  • beautiful! tagic! love it!

  • that was sad =/ 5/5

  • this is probably their best song, I just wish that the version they had on here was the higher one with a capo on the first fret

  • the one you're speaking of are the songs that were put on Napster that were mixed from the vinyl cuts off the album it was around 2002,the were recorded with a higher RPM. you can hear that Toms voice speed was also raised as it sounds like a chipmunk.

  • Z z z z z

  • that was so good!

i wish i could download the video and put it on my ipod

  • Amazing job. I was just introduced to Against Me by a friend in eastern WA. This si the second song I heard from them, and I think I'm hooked. Time to actually buy their CD. Did you hear me? Yes, I said Buy!!!

  • "Time to actually buy their CD. Did you hear me? Yes, I said Buy!!!"

    Buy the record, newfag.

  • That's what I said fuck nuts. We were driving in his truck and he was playing their disc on his player. There was no talk about it being a down load or burned. Then again it's hard to hear when you have your moms legs wrapped around your head.

  • Good video good song

  • there needs to be more videos of this song

  • wow, this is their best song and the images are perfect. such a powerful song

  • That was really good dude. oh my god

i enjoyed that sooo much. wow
