@vonpiro why, then, must you even bother to watch this video? Radiohead happens to be one of my favorite bands, and fiery furnaces are new to me. The Fiery Furnaces are such a better band than Radiohead anyway. All RH ever does is rip off great old bands like Can and convince modern teenagers that they're being inventive, when actually it's just recycled innovation with pop hooks.
Why is everyone so obsessed with musical elitism, you don't have to like a band because they aren't mainstream, or stop liking a band because they are.
So to the fuck wit who got thumbed up, who believes you can like radiohead for the wrong reasons, besides liking the music. Then GTFO :)

yo tengo una version mas suave de esta cacion. mi favoritas de fiery furnaces son worry worry quay cur single again... well maybe when I'm in the mood all of their song are my favorite but this version naah ah! I don't like it.
Good band...I don't get why everyone is arguing about Radiohead. haha Radiohead is much better in my opinion, but I wouldn't really compare them in the first place.
@an8bitwarlock fair point, i certainly wouldn't want radiohead to be judged by as hackneyed and teenage a song as creep. but i did listen to blueberry boat and it sounded like someone trying to emulate certain records by the residents very closely, but almost entirely boringly. the sound palette is good but the arrangement is dull dull dull
the reason everyone is talking about radiohead is cause this band foolishly tried to diss them but thought they were talking about harry partch in their newest track rather than harry patch, and then backtracked most unconvincingly and claimed they'd been joking all along - for the record, fiery furnaces are idiots and their music is intensely unoriginal
@MrWoweeZowee i think their music is old, and that 'in rainbows' is a pile of coffee table wank, but they've still made way more important contributions to music than the fiery furnaces. but i am someone who likes being proved wrong whenever possible (unlike 99% of youtube commenters) so please if you have actual musical examples of FF's originality then point them my way. you have my word that i will not immedietly write them off
Phelsuma04 , IN RAINBOWS Is far superior to Amnesiac in every way. That album is simply a Kid B Side To the groundbreaking Kid A. Hail To The Theif for that matter trumps Amnesiac too. Come to think of it I believe it may be one of the weakest album mext to Pablo Honey. And in case your wondering who is a better band, Googlel search Radiohead's live perormances vs. FF and it's pretty clear that FF should not be even in the conversation.
@chadm724 Having listened to both bands excessively I would disagree strongly with you my good friend. While you are correct that Amnesiac is a collection of Kid A b sides, that doesn't make the songs bad but rather is a testiment to how great Radiohead was during the Kid A times. Also, I am not judging these bands by live performances but rather albums and to me Radiohead have never equaled Blueberry Boat which should be considered one of the best albums of the past few decades!
oh i get this video now! It took me a couple of minutes though. :) I like it, but i wouldn't compare it to radiohead, apart from they both enviromentaly conscious band. :)
Matt shouldn't bitch about radiohead. It should be known that the fiery furnaces are much more relevant than radiohead though and that radiohead haven't made a good record since amnesiac while the fiery furnaces have put out 4 or more albums including a B sides collection in 2005 that may be better than radiohead at their best!
In Rainbows is their best album period because in the album we get to hear and listen to Thom's easiness and amendments with society, he isn't against the world anymore. The whole band is ready to enjoy and celebrate life.Ok Computer is their 2nd best.
@pokabeb I disagree, i think kid a. the fusion between idea and music is, well, seamless you get this 'musical journey' of genuine criticism towards society. In many way its an extension of ok compputer but yeah i like kid a.
@chocotricks cos the guy from band said he didn't like radiohead (practicaly). But for every else... studies in music psychlogy have shown that a persons tastes are dictated by their environment, culture etc. But what is most interesting, is when people react to a successful band negatively. for instance, many people like radiohead, so SOME people will "un-conventionally" not like them. Ofcourse theres alot more to it, but its good to kno. keep listening!!!
@darbeel1 oh lol and as for the studies in music thing, i agree. My parents usually have the radio on and they play almost everything from the way back-now they have a hugh cd collection with lots of variety and I myself am a big fan of almost everything and some of my fav bands being Iron maiden, metallica, van halen, and so on and it just so happens I have friends who listen to the same kind of music. Point being
@darbeel1 Point being that my music taste and other interest and influenced on who im with and what they do, same goes for pretty much everyone. So very good for pointing that out
Matt Friedberger insulted Radiohead for their song John Patch (In Memory Of), who was the last surving English veteran of WWI, because he thought Radiohead's song was about John Partch who was an American composer that Matt was a fan of. He accused them of writing a song about John Partch to make themselves seem intelligent, when in actuality they were paying tribute to a recently deceased war veteran.
So as you can imagine, the reaction of Radiohead fans is not unwarranted.
@chocotricks Because they're relevant as hell. Hahaha, isn't it funny, bitching between FF-Fans and Radiohead-Fans, like in the good old times, when Liam wanted to knock down Damon and finally got Noël, hahaha, the good old times ...
I thought it was funny. I mean, what are the chances that some English WW veteran Radiohead writes a song about has almost the exact same name as some random American experimental composer?
Remember that Gilligan's Island where that fake British Invasion band "The Mosquitos" discovers the castaways, and to impress them, the girls and guys each do their own musical performances. Remember how terrible Mr. Howell, The Professor, Gilligan, and the Skipper played, almost like an atonal one-man-band dusted out of his gourd? This is officially worse than that shit.

I like Radiohead too, they used to be one of my favorite bands, but they got old and kind of boring...and well, the Fiery Furnaces know whats up and always do something fun and different. I LOVE THEM.
to be fair, im a massive radio head fan, but the fact Thom Yorke wrote a tribute to Harry Patch was annoying and generically cheesy. Stop the hating on this band (who aren't my cup of tea) who have every right to speak their minds.
how the fuck can they put out shit like this and actually have the balls to put down radiohead? I understand where that twat is coming from about not liking what radiohead branding and image that they built up, but at least respect the band for what they achieved.
most artists dont throw paint on canvases they make it have a similar look or if they do they do it in an interesting way also everything has art in it if you cant get that then i am truely sorry for you
yes indeed, i imagine they were, this weird, fucked up MUSIC VIDEO by a psychedelic band certainly doesn't have a realistic depiction of Iceland. You're completely right.
But tell me, what do you think they should do to make this video depict Iceland more faithfully, as is, obviously, the only purpose of making a video for a song?
people that call The Fiery Furnaces "generic" don't know the meaning of the word. Listen to Captain Beefhart - you'll come to understand where this music stems from.
Malaquias just because it has a melody and a pop song structure doesn't mean it's generic. There's nothing else in pop/rock that sounds like the Fiery Furnaces, their arrangements and instrumentation are really unique. The verse progression is kind of dissonant I guess but it sounds bouncy and fun so who cares

that's true Radiohead were great ...in the 90s...but modern days are made for bands like the furnace.

Checked em out because of their spat at radiohead. I could see how they could be very jealous with songs like this.

Huh, I guess, Maybe matt said what he said about Radiohead so that I would check out his band. I could have done without.

to be fair, im a massive radio head fan, but the fact Thom Yorke wrote a tribute to Harry Patch was annoying and generically cheesy. Stop the hating on this band (who aren't my cup of tea) who have every right to speak their minds.

What a shit band, how dare they criticize radiohead when they write shit songs about tropical ice
ceiley1234 2 years ago
go listen to their Blueberry Boat album and come back to say the same thing.

how the fuck can they put out shit like this and actually have the balls to put down radiohead? I understand where that twat is coming from about not liking what radiohead branding and image that they built up, but at least respect the band for what they achieved.

Radiohead are fab - Matthew Friedberger's wrong - but this song is ace- can't take that away for him.

Wasn't joking. I nearly fell asleep.

How can you even seriously call them generic? Do you know what the word generic means? Name three bands that are anything like the Fiery Furnaces?

most artists dont throw paint on canvases they make it have a similar look or if they do they do it in an interesting way also everything has art in it if you cant get that then i am truely sorry for you

sprelligosarnir 2 years ago
doesn't it have more volcanoes than that?
....
i think they were thinking about greenland
TheThinkingJester 2 years ago
yes indeed, i imagine they were, this weird, fucked up MUSIC VIDEO by a psychedelic band certainly doesn't have a realistic depiction of Iceland. You're completely right.
But tell me, what do you think they should do to make this video depict Iceland more faithfully, as is, obviously, the only purpose of making a video for a song?

that's a very relevant and useful thing to say when making a review of a surreal music clip by a band who are know for their surrealist imagery.

people that call The Fiery Furnaces "generic" don't know the meaning of the word. Listen to Captain Beefhart - you'll come to understand where this music stems from.

Did you even understand what I wrote? Many love to say they could do it, bu- oh, nevermind...
So, when is your record coming out?
Catalina650013 2 years ago 2
Malaquias just because it has a melody and a pop song structure doesn't mean it's generic. There's nothing else in pop/rock that sounds like the Fiery Furnaces, their arrangements and instrumentation are really unique. The verse progression is kind of dissonant I guess but it sounds bouncy and fun so who cares
