  • My only quip is that they aren't all starting and ending at the same time and it's unfortunately quite noticeable. Very nice otherwise.

  • wow they're doing the brittney spears scoop

  • I'm singing this for my choirs festival and prefestival this year it's so pretty

  • really great!!! sublime.

  • This is beautiful! Its so soft and haunting.

  • Superb!

Can't say much about the arrangement.

It can't hold a candle to the rendition done by the Kingsmen of Columbia University in the Good Shepherd.

Yet I can close my eyes and listen, and feel the wistfulness that permeates the air.

  • Pretty sweet to the untrained ear. But aren't most ears untrained? I really felt the song, and felt the performers were connected to the tune. Love the sopranos.

  • well there are a lot of technical problems.. but it emotionally captured me, and that's what matters most in my mind. you just know they were into it, and if you can ignore all of the techincal stuff, you can truly hear the meaning of the song and feel a lot of the emotions meant to be felt. so, i think they did atleast did alright.

  • What? This is gorgeous, guys! Just clean up your ears!

  • I think that this song was sung beautifully. You could really hear the passion in the way the song swelled during the harmonies, the chords following each other like a waterfall.

  • good, not great.

intonation is the main problem, and it is not only the women.

  • not very good

  • eh, watch the pitch there ladies, you were close to a half step flat before the men even came in. Those who sing on the flat side, listen to the ones who sing sharper, because those are the ones who are in tune!

  • ya your right there little of tune i can hear it to >,> but still good not totaly 100% correct but u still hear good dyenamics in it

  • Actually, if you are singing "sharper" you aren't in tune either. Proper breath support and vowel shapes are the keys to proper vocal tone and blend, which can make music sound "flat," if not done correctly.

  • Ah yes, forgive me. I totally agree. Poor choice of wording. I mean those who are "thinking" sharp tend to sing more in tune. The music isn't merely sounding flat however. The singers are flat.

  • whoa whoa whoa i couldn't hear the harmonies @ 2:42.....and it was sung wrong unless it was too soft and low for me to tell!!! is this the real J. Erb piece???? I'm confused

  • i finally found it!!!!!!!!!! I've sung with the Louisiana State Choir in 98 under the direction of Moses Hogan and the way he directed was monumental in my book. I love this song!!!!!!!!!!

  • You got to sing under the direction of Moses Hogan? I'm envious beyond belief. He's my favourite composer ever.

  • Iloved it!..Im a born an bred southern gent from Georgia and felt this song. It has the heart of a church spiritual from th old south. The men sound as if they ache..the women are mournful.

    A very respectful rendition.

  • this choir is too careful and as a result, produces a flat tone. No originality here. Yet another choir trying to emulate "The Philippine Madrigal Singers". It doesn't matter if your choir master was a former madrigal singer, there will only be 1 madrigal group,I would appreciate this more, if the choir has it's own identity. sitting while singing is so prententious, that already is the trademark of the madrigal singers, get your own style!! this is a second rate copy-cat choir.

  • correct!

  • I think the flat tone is actually a result of poor formant matching in the vowels, and the fact that they're sitting. And some of the singers are turning this into a pop song, with scooping in the leaps... why did their choir master let them DO that!?!? And why ARE they sitting? I wouldn't mind it if it didn't affect the energy and intonation, but I think it's making them hypofuntional (i.e. lazy)I don't think this was a completely unsuccessful performance, but it could have been better.

  • I don't know technicality about the song because I am not a singer. (I play clarinet.) However, I disagree on the energy bit. This song is a folk song sung by civil war soldiers. It's a very sad song. Of course the energy might seem lax. I think this rendition is beautiful - albeit coming from an ignorant source.

  • AMAZING!! VERY BEAUTIFUL!

  • perfection

  • Beautiful. Well balanced between the parts. This is the way a choir should sound when singing a piece like this. Awesome job!

  • I've sung this a couple of times in choirs a lifetime ago. The problem with singing this piece is that, for many big choirs it's very easy to get carried way with everything going on. This performance is different - it sounds very clean, very intimate. It gave me goosebumps as a result. Beautiful!

  • i sang this same arrangement once and i am a bass.. all i have to sayis props to the basses! we have to go down to a c Sharp in this and it is ridiculous!!! excelent job very well balanced and excelent pitch and tone! loved it!!!

  • ✰✰✰✰✰

  • It's beautiful and sad. It reminds me of the brave Southern families who lost everything in the Civil War and journeyed westward to make new lives "beyond the Missouri" ...

  • Unless you're from the Shenandoah River valley or grew up on the rive itself like I did; there's a great feeling with this song that cannot be met by any human voice. All these choirs are remarkable, but singing this song to yourself on the banks is truly something magical.

  • i miss chopa! hope we could have a reunion concert!!!

  • i can clearly hear the melody line, unlike the other choir. the end part is perfect. great!

  • very nice...
