all of you that believe that the lyrics hit home.....when the time come will you be ready to take this country back, believe me it will not be without bloodshed.
"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from
time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Since the "New World Order" is mentioned in the song as the rythm we sway to, I find the only logical interpretation to be Big Brother ie. government telling us sheeple to go back to sleep, to keep us "safe from pain, truth, choice" while they create war they send us into - "counting bodies like sheep" - meaning soldiers dont have more value than sheep. "I´ll be the one to pretect you from a will to survive and a voice of reason", while they create the New World Order, Time to wake up?
@Panopticonable You are correct. It seems every little girl wants this song to be about their sadness & having some knight in shining armor save them. That's the weak minded for you. But you- you are right on the money.
I thought this song was about someone telling them that everything is okay--even though its not--and that there is nothing to worry about. Trying to keep the person ignorant
"we interpreted the meaning of the song to match our own storyline"... then you didn't understand the song, or i didn't understand the video, or i interpret the song differently. i see bombs, chaos, war, massacres, blood. not a teenage girl walking in the park :-)
pet was part of the album 13th step, an album dealing with drug abuse/addiction, The song in the context deals with drugs, the lyrics representing the abused substance offering this false solitude "sleep". alluring the user with ideas of saftey n escape
They used all songs from the "Pet" trilogy (as I call it). Very beginning is Lullaby, then Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums, then Pet.
This is an absolutely horrible video. Seriously, the shots are too dark, bad camera angles, uninteresting plot, and what the fuck does a stalker have to do with the song? I mean I could see how it fit if you made him like look after her or something, but that was just stupid. Sorry guys, but even if you don't have the technicalities down, you could at least have good content.
To be honest, if you listen to the lyrics, you could interpret it as a stalker, or even a persona of schizophrenia. Who knows? It's all up to interpretation
you stupid mutherfucker... HOW DARE YOU DRAG PEOPLE SUFFERING FROM SCHIZOPHRENIA INTO THIS... IF YOU READ THE STATISTICS, SCHIZOS ARE 7 TIMES MORE LIKELY TO BE THE VICTIM OF A VIOLENT CRIME THAN NON-MENTALLY ILL PEOPLE. WHAT AN IGNORANT PIECE OF SHIT YOU ARE. STOP DISCRIMINATING AGAINST THE MENTALLY ILL.
Most rock music videos usually follow the song very loosely or very little at all. Just look at Slipknot's Vermillion, its about an obsession with a girl yet the video follows a girl that's alone because she's trapped in time.
person below is right. as i personally mixed those songs together especially for the video that we made. no its not about what the song was written for, but what does that matter?!?!its how you see it for yourself. some of these people shud be more open minded about other peoples perspective.
but the ideas i had for the video really needed a bit more than 'pet' so i knew those other tracks would go well...chill guys!!!!!
thanks for the nice comments! we worked hard alright!!!
wow! you really missed the point. and even if maynard wanted it left to your own interpretation, your video doesnt even match the song. and to the idiot who said this song was called "counting bodies," tell him to check his facts. this song is actually called "pet" and is quite different from "counting bodies"
Eeh. Actually, yeah, they're different songs, but they aren't THAT different. Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums is really just a more industrial version of "Pet".
And anyway, parts of both were used in this video... check YOUR facts. As well as the Lullaby intro.
"counting bodies like sheep to the rhythm of the war drums" is a remix a "pet" the is completely sequenced. there are no instroments used, it's all him slaming doors and stuff. and kariho is right about the lullaby intro. all three songs are used.
What's even funnier is there is no real point to the song. It's Maynard. He tells you to use the music in a way it will help you. For some it can be about drugs to another it can be about religion in another it can be about a hobo on the side of the road. It's how a person uses it. Even though it's not completely Tool I believe in using music in the way Maynard intended it from the beginning.
ha i love how so many people are focusing on the true meaning of the song.
it was just a video we did for our media project and we had to pick a song! just seemed like an ideal one. Its really not supposed to reflect the true meaning, i dont think anyone can ever reflect or should attempt to reflect the true meaning of a song except the person who wrote it to begin with.
It's Counting Bodies Like Sheep not pet. Although I can see where you get it wrong, there isn't another band that uses the same lyrics on two DIFFERENT albums.
wrong, the lyrics are very slightly different, they do share most of the lines but overall the lyrics are different
counting bodies doesnt say anything bout "boogiemen" or anything bout the "new world order", im sure there are a few more differences but cant think of any more atm
wow, i loved it, the girls amazin lol, the guys who made it must have put lots of hard work and time into it, trailing the actors around, bet they love them for it x
the intro is to count bodies like sheep to the rythem of the war drums its adiffrent sont almost identical lyrics and simmilar rifs diffrernt instruments
The video doesn't represent anything really, was just one we had to make for media! we get what the song is originally about but we thought they could also be interpreted to fit in with the theme of our video. The war drums just acted as a beat to the guys footsteps! It's not really meant to be that deep and meaningful in terms of real life it's just a storyline.
Honestly I like the attempt, but this video has nothing to do w/ the lyrics. The song is political, and anti-war, so what is this video supposed to represent. What would the war drum represent in this video. Kind of confusing if you look at the big picture.
I'm not sure where that info comes from but it still doesn't change the meaning of the song. Regardless of who it was written for it is still about the oppressions and controlling ways of government.
world order. That doesn't even make sense that it would be a song to his son. Its not some lullaby about going to sleep its a warning to wake up realize the elites true motivation.
Your the child, the song is from the point of the "elites" telling you that they're here to keep you safe from the big bad world. Believe it or not, thats what the lyrics are conveying, its obvious.
not a bad job at all =] it was kinda strange to hear lullaby and counting bodies like sheep to the rhythm to the war drums at the beginning, but all in all, it was pretty good.
