Awful. Completely misses the mood of the song. Way too upbeat for a song describing the original writers anguish and heartbreak surrounding the break up of his marriage.
This a good cover for the simple fact that I have always loved Joy Division and I saw Calexico 3 years ago on PBS or something equivalent. I never knew they did this, and, after the set I saw, I can thoroughly enjoy this.
A preppie telling his girl it's over through the use of a very cool song, and he's chosen to convey the bad news on a train. Passengers within earshot be damned! Full marks for creativity. He's a good singer and if avoiding serious relationships is his long term goal, this is a scenario he could repeat again and again, with, I believe, a high degree of success.
Like I always told my kids, "If you Like it, it's good music." I like it, for me it's good music, really good music. I always find it interesting that some people can't accept that. If we all liked the same stuff what a boring old world it would be. And mpollonize, your comment would have carried much more weight without the profanity.
I am in love with both Calexico's and Joy Division's music, and this "love, love, love, love..." cuteness nearly grabbed my heart. It is absolutely a different song.
one of my favorite covers. Calexico captured a beautiful version of a really sad song --- upbeat --- so different from Joy Division's original, but glorious all the same. beautiful.
I had this version on the Starbucks Valentines Sweethearts CD, but loaned it to a friend a few years ago, and haven't seen (or heard) it since. Thanks for posting this!
I saw Joey and John open for Neko Case in Tacoma in 08', and it was pure awesomeness. Super simple, wicked catchy tune. Killer Cover.
I love this version.

@barryandsusan1844How in the world would it be boring "If we all liked the same stuff"? That seems oxymoronic to me.

@mpollonize it's not a sweet cover - it's a effing disgrace - I perfectly agree - particularly while watching the pics from T#ham on telly

It's really good. They put their own spin , didnt completely copy the melody, it feels like Love will Tear us apart . It works for me.

Great cover version! Sounds like they are using a bit of the Neu sound in the background...
