This actually comes out nicely in 3D to me, because I'm using homemade Pulfrich glasses with the right lens darker (not too dark or it won't work) and the image in my left eye is the most recent image on screen while the image in my right eye is a slightly earlier image due to the image being perceived slower through the dark lens so combining both images together shows me two slightly different angles of an object in motion, giving a stereoscopic effect for moving 3D objects in a 2D video.
Works MUCH better when expanded or fullscreen, because it allows you to concentrate more on the video and not the stuff around it and the higher resolution allows you to make out small differences in the view angles of an object perceived differently by each eye. Pulfrich effect works better on HD videos with lots of movement. But of course stereo 3D is better, since Pulfrich only compares a previous image to a current image rather than a true left eye image to a true right eye image.
I wished they would convert the matrix into 3D. With a lot of time and careful precision and 3D editing, they can make the matrix a powerful 3D movie unlike crappy 3D movies like clash of the titans.
This is based on the principle that if your image is at a constant counter-clockwise rotation (like the truck explosion) then delaying the light entering the left eye (by using shades) then the brain will see the left image one frame later than the right eye, creating a pseudo 3D effect.
It was used on the "3D" episode of 3rd Rock From The Sun back in 1997. Didn't really work then, doesn't really work now. It's nothing resembling real 3D.
@Lemonizm They distributed free glasses with news papers and at supermarkets, one clear lens, one dark.
They shot it with a constantly moving camera. If you find the episode (which I believe was the season finale of season 2) you'll notice that it looks different from the rest. Not only because of the constantly moving camera, but also because it was shot on video at 60i rather than on film at 24fps, which was done to maximize the Pulfrich effect. (which is what this phenomenon is called).
@MountDoomPictures It works a little for about 2 seconds during the scene where they rotate around the explosion. The rest of it doesn't have the right motion to produce sensible depth.
@Pulfrich3dVideos Actually you can: if you are using an LCD monitor just look at it with one eye trough the opposite side of the glasses, and tilt them until the screen becomes partially black.
Does not works..................

Pulfrich only works with lateral motion, which this video doesn't have a lot of. Sorry but it doesn't work.

@temsi Thanks for the info- I was a bit curious how this guy managed (or at least claimed) to create a 3d effect without using polarization.
How did the 3d episode work? Did it just describe to you the steps you had take in order to see in 3d at the beginning of the episode or what?
