Cats bite or scratch because 1, We let them. 2, To get a reaction. And we usually give it to them. If he bites or scratches your hands, instantly pull them away and tuck them behing your back. Stand or sit still, with no reaction at all. If he attacks you reandomly, don't react. Stand still and be as boring and uninteresting as possible. If he bites while petting or playing, stop. Then move away. Eventually he will learn-- biting equals boredom. Use fishing pole toys instead of hands for play.

@GardenCalifornia -- Using fishing pole toys or toys at the end of a long stick instead of yoru bare hands for play is VERY important in training a cat not to bite. You basically want to convey the message that human body parts are NOT play toys. They are only for petting.
