Nice to see that the loser McCain supports the paramilitary murders in Colombia. Curse those unionists for daring to work for worker's rights in the "US-backyard".

i am not leaving this comment for the main topic here but for the eye rolling and Mccain. IM SO GLAD MCCAIN DIDNT WIN BECUZ HE ALWAYS SAID "MY FRIENDS" AND SHYT LIKE THAT. wowowowow YAY OBAMA!
also, you should see how different NGO reported deaths of labor leaders dying, when in and investigation it was found out that some of the reported were killed for reasons as his wife killing the labor leader for cheating on her, or another for suicide as a result of to many debts. Pay attention, not all that you see as statistic is true.
you people should understand and make a clear division in supporting Obama (I do in some way) and supporting something that could be wrong coming from him. I can see how many people here know absolutely nothing about my country, but just because obama said it, there you go saying its horrible here: bullshit
in one of the last military and police operations in colombia we arrested an important FARC leader. Guess who was with him at the time: a labor leader. And this is true, you can check it in any newspaper from here.
Its not to say labor leaders are bad, because there are some that do a fair job for the people, however, some of them arent exactly Jesus Christ, and get themselves in bad things with FARC
Outsourcing, unfair trade agreements, flooding America with illegal imingrants, corporations running the government, wall street bankers destroying the economy,on and on and on yet you say it`s the union and the workers fault.
Im currently living/teaching in Barranquilla, Colombia. As an American, I can tell you that there is very little representation for the Colombian workers. Many work 12 hours a day/7 days a week with no benefits. The rich are extremely powerful and the distribution of wealth is very unequal. Hopefully, Obama can change this.
Labor unions cause a lot of problems. Look at Detroit. Unions used to protect workers from harsh conditions and extremely low wages. Now, they just squeeze every penny out of corporations. Why are people in Detroit getting paid 30$ an hour to put doors on cars? In the south, people have the same education (high school) and they are getting paid 8$ an hour. The unions in the South do their jobs. Unions in the north just make corporations like the big three fail.
wrong! The south has less poverty than than the north. Except for New Orleans of course. But do you think that people deserve 30 dollars an hour for putting doors on cars on the assembly line? No wonder the big 3 can't survive.

Poor John McCain never really had a chance in this race. This election is a no-brainer for Americans. Obama's charisma and leadership will unite our nation and reconnect America to the world community.
People listening to Obama become inspired while both Palin and McCain either annoy or bore. This was never a race, and you can expect on Nov 4th a huge 425+ humiliating landslide.
Republicunts were STUPID nominating John McCain. It's OVER!
ehrmmm ..I think obama is a great candidate, but I desagrre on this issue. where did you get this idea of "you are safer being a syndical leader in colombia" ?
What does the killing of sindicalists have to do with anything??? Its been going on for 50 years in Colombia and 2008 has been the first time democrats bring it up. The worst thing is...syndical memeber's deaths have been reduced by 87% since Uribe took power...and just when these deaths reach their lowest level in years is when democrats decide to turn their backs on Colombia regarding the FTA. Why didn't they say anything in 2000, when syndical deaths were at their peak??
there are no 'good guys' in Colombia. It's a case of America siding with the form of the corruption it likes better. Left-wing corruption is less palatable than right-wing corruption for the Americans because it's harder to control and threatens thier 'big dick' way of controlling small nations. Nothing against ordinary Americans cos uz are good people, just that ur media and idiots who make decisions are terrible.
All those chavistas and americans saying crap do not have the right to say shit about Colombia, the chavistas are some communist retards, chavez in a coward that would run if he hears to uribe say he declares war to venzuela, and the gringos, do not they know what the hell theyre talking about, 90% they are "Nascar dads" that they work in some supermarkets
i was very suprised to hear a presidential candidate in the lead saying that. Ive been disapointed with Obamas shift more to the right, but maybe hes the real deal
This was actually amazing, someone actually trying to enforce the trade agreements with humanitarian demands. This will not only be good for Columbians but good for Americans as when the Columbian standards go up, it's not as profitable to outsource. This should be done to all low wage nations to see their standards go up and battle poverty and outsourcing exploitation of that poverty.
Ok - I'm an Obama supporter. But even my eyebrow shot up when he answered this. Like McCain I am amazed that Obama knows about the current labor problems in Columbia also and how it is affecting the US.
I saw this - and was amazed. (I happen to know a bit about the labor situation in Colombia, because a neighbour used to be active there). I believe that Obama has the potential to be a great president....if americans start voting for the depth of knowledge, analytical skills and preparation, and not for the guy they would rather have a beer with.
To understand the full meaning of this, research McCain, the National Endowment for Democracy, and the International Republican Institute. The IRI has a long history of opposing democracy in places like Guatemala, Haiti, Venezuela, and Colombia.
McCain has probably never heard of that since working people are way off his radar. At any rate, Obama should've been all over the fact McCain tried to theme himself as "not George Bush" and then proceeded to spew the exact same ideological b.s. Bush did, for the remainder of the evening.
when will Americans realize this reflects B.O's worldview? It's scary; this alone shows a) his worldview that we and the europeans oppresse tiny societies and b) his willingness to be complicit with rogue regimes
Who are "we", idiot? But what Obama states is the truth. It is all over the internet! The truth is getting out now, we are not living in the 60's when there were only Corporate News Media.
Stop your insanity, and deal with the truth of what our foreign policies have done to the world!
Obama is wrong on this one... there have been much less killings of labor leaders under the Uribe administration. It would be a smart move on the USA part to sign a FTA with Colombia because they are about the only real ally they have in the region.
So the FTA with Peru was done because they were running the country perfectly? Colombia has made huge progress in the past 6 years. I'm still voting for Obama come 4 Nov. but on this issue, old man McCain is right; the FTA with Colombia is a no-brainer.
"In the first eight months of 2008, according to the government's Human Rights Observatory, there were 19 massacres in which 87 people died and 315 people have been kidnapped. In the same time frame, the rights group Codhes says that 54 people have been killed in extrajudicial executions by government forces, and more than 270,000 new internal refugees have been forced to flee their homes."
I'm too lazy to google your stats, but as a Colombian American, I can tell you that Obama is wrong on this one. I have lived there, I have been there recently, I know what a huge difference Uribe has been for Colombia. A FTA with Colombia is well deserved if USA wants to keep an eye on Venezuela.
I wished that McCain had challenged Obama to name one of the "labor leaders." Might he have said Paul Reyes? Didn't any of you notice the later comment about FARC and Hugo Chavez? McCain didn't roll his eyes, but widened them, as he came to fresh understanding of just how poor a judge of character Obama does continue to show himself. Ayers -a bomb throwing professor ,Wright -a mentor of racism, Odinga - church planner (demolition dept.),FARC labor leaders with AKs
You've got it wrong. Not all syndicalists are FARC members as you've affirmed, yet many of them have been killed by paramilitary groups supported by the Colombian Army. As a Colombian, I am a supporter of the Free Trade Agreement, but I'm afraid Obama might be right in what he said.
In McCain's words, you should come down here and see it for yourself. And for the record, it's Raul Reyes, not Paul Reyes.
Raul Reyes, thanks. I understand that not all "labor leaders" are FARC, which is why I'd wished that McCain forced a name out of Obama. I'm not trying discount the violence that you face in your county. I am trying to discount the ridiculous implication, of this video, that McCain rolled his eyes about the deaths of labor leaders. He instead went bug-eyed over the facil understanding his opponent showed over matters of free trade.
It's like he has no patience for the actual, you know, DETAILS, which might explain why he keeps parachuting in at the last minute on immigration, the GI Bill, the Bailout and tries to take credit for other people's work.
And I can appreciate that and understand where you are coming from. I'm just fed up with "mccain is such a douche" type comments. Actually even though I don't support Obama I'd get tired of negative comments about him quickly as well. Personally I'm not a huge fan of either, and whoever wins will bring 4 years of some really bad stuff, with maybe a diamond or two thrown in.
I saw that, it's hard to tell if this was a "I didn't know that" moment or a "he just lied and I'll get him later for that" moment. There's a third take: Obama just revealed a deep dark secret the American People weren't supposed to hear. Cut and slice it any way you want it still works out to being a situation where McCain either doesn't KNOW the reality of what's going on in Columbia or he knows but is one of those "the ends justify the means" types who finds no problem with killing "leftists".
McCain doesn't understand that labor leaders protect the rights of working folks by ensuring that they get fair wages. Without these leaders than you can cheap labor and forced child labor.
Soooooo....yes McCunt....having trade with COLUMBIA and making profit off their labor when it is NOT fair trade is INHUMANE.
McCain's eyes: "Are you kiddin' me. You care about other nations, real people, and possible connections to our behaviour in the world. Get out of here."
Keep in mind, these assassinations were done at the request of the US coal company, Drummond Coal. The families, not getting justice in Colombia, are suing Drummond Coal, here in the US. It's still a situation of terror, created by this prosperous US company.
The men and women's Uncommitted Ohio Voters lines should have been hitting the ceiling there. Goes to show how uneducated many of these folks apparently are. This is an issue that must be discussed and yet it is rarely discussed in our current government under the Bush/Cheney administration. Human rights violations must always be grounds for halting trade.
We have to be cautious in our dealings with Columbia, not a proven stable/financially sound country for us to count on so heavily as a good trade partner. They are still the world's largest source for cocaine and is tumultuous.
I don't need an eyeroll video to know that McCain is an asshole. But YouTube is still fun and essential. Lighten up, Pax. What's sad is the state this country is in, and seeing John for who he is, an intemperate fool, is fine by me. I'm not looking to feel better about myself ... I'm looking for a President who is up to the task.
are you a dumb ass.. where do you BANANA REPUBLIK.
asshole where live in a democratic country with democartic vote and people, the majority will elect the best candidate , no matter what.. who you are you to think like that. im revolted
Let's post a 15 second clip of a guy rolling his eyes so we can all call him a douche and feel so much better about ourselves before we go to bed at night. Is this really what we have come to? Sad.
mccain's a douche. fuck him and his fucked up flying skills. he's lucky he was caught by the viet cong, he'd probably would have died if he kept on crashing planes.
Come on. he lifted his brows, turned his head, you can see the white of his eyes shift. Maybe his muscles didn't allow him to physically roll his eyes, but he sure as hell wanted to.
how's (that one) so clever than me. He doesnt want to travel to understand politics and foreign politics. Law professor vs military 3 years of school.
He (Mccain) does not get it. He do not care about kills, he has killed several asian guys and he does not care so, what the hell with those guys killed in Colombia, he do not care, if he could he would go with his airfighter and kill them all, an pass several years kidnapped just because he hates.
I really appreciated the comment that Obama made regarding the persecution of union organizers in Colombia, it gives me hope that we can begin to address the oppressive climate towards workers rights in a neoliberal economy...but yeah McCain clearly has no respect for issues that effect workers locally and globally
Really though, what the hell? You don't roll your eyes during a debate, that is so incredibly rude and innappropriate. Obama would never act like that and never has in a debate.
A man as unattractive physically as McCain is really needs to pay attention to how he comes across. His eye rolling, grimacing, flashing angry eyes did not help him in the least. He seems to be totally unaware, as Nixon was, that TV is a visual medium and he is not well suited to it.
McCain makes me sick. He is no Statesman. He is a grumpy old fart who needs to retire to one of his sugar mama's many mansions and get a hobby that won't hurt any more people.
"oh obama, going on about unpunished murders! what are you like, eh?"

i was very suprised to hear a presidential candidate in the lead saying that. Ive been disapointed with Obamas shift more to the right, but maybe hes the real deal
mcalien24 3 years ago
This was actually amazing, someone actually trying to enforce the trade agreements with humanitarian demands. This will not only be good for Columbians but good for Americans as when the Columbian standards go up, it's not as profitable to outsource. This should be done to all low wage nations to see their standards go up and battle poverty and outsourcing exploitation of that poverty.

Ok - I'm an Obama supporter. But even my eyebrow shot up when he answered this. Like McCain I am amazed that Obama knows about the current labor problems in Columbia also and how it is affecting the US.
countess1900 3 years ago
I saw this - and was amazed. (I happen to know a bit about the labor situation in Colombia, because a neighbour used to be active there). I believe that Obama has the potential to be a great president....if americans start voting for the depth of knowledge, analytical skills and preparation, and not for the guy they would rather have a beer with.
victor190779 3 years ago
To understand the full meaning of this, research McCain, the National Endowment for Democracy, and the International Republican Institute. The IRI has a long history of opposing democracy in places like Guatemala, Haiti, Venezuela, and Colombia.

And in the next breath, John McCain says, "America is the greatest force for good in the world."

what happened to mccain/palin's no blink policy?! ... "We will not blink"
vernymax 3 years ago 6
McCain has probably never heard of that since working people are way off his radar. At any rate, Obama should've been all over the fact McCain tried to theme himself as "not George Bush" and then proceeded to spew the exact same ideological b.s. Bush did, for the remainder of the evening.

it's all over the internet, so it's the truth? huh.
I guess Islamic terrorism is a myth perpetrated by the Bush Administration in your view.
jaredf921 3 years ago
when will Americans realize this reflects B.O's worldview? It's scary; this alone shows a) his worldview that we and the europeans oppresse tiny societies and b) his willingness to be complicit with rogue regimes
jaredf921 3 years ago
Who are "we", idiot? But what Obama states is the truth. It is all over the internet! The truth is getting out now, we are not living in the 60's when there were only Corporate News Media.
Stop your insanity, and deal with the truth of what our foreign policies have done to the world!

Obama is wrong on this one... there have been much less killings of labor leaders under the Uribe administration. It would be a smart move on the USA part to sign a FTA with Colombia because they are about the only real ally they have in the region.
six25 3 years ago
Much less? So what is an acceptable number of killings of labor leaders?
julieblaha 3 years ago
So the FTA with Peru was done because they were running the country perfectly? Colombia has made huge progress in the past 6 years. I'm still voting for Obama come 4 Nov. but on this issue, old man McCain is right; the FTA with Colombia is a no-brainer.
six25 3 years ago
agree with you, dont know why you get thumbs down, but surely I will too.
Certainly us colombians now better about our problems

"In the first eight months of 2008, according to the government's Human Rights Observatory, there were 19 massacres in which 87 people died and 315 people have been kidnapped. In the same time frame, the rights group Codhes says that 54 people have been killed in extrajudicial executions by government forces, and more than 270,000 new internal refugees have been forced to flee their homes."
sounds like progress
historywillabsolve 3 years ago 2
I'm too lazy to google your stats, but as a Colombian American, I can tell you that Obama is wrong on this one. I have lived there, I have been there recently, I know what a huge difference Uribe has been for Colombia. A FTA with Colombia is well deserved if USA wants to keep an eye on Venezuela.
six25 3 years ago
I wished that McCain had challenged Obama to name one of the "labor leaders." Might he have said Paul Reyes? Didn't any of you notice the later comment about FARC and Hugo Chavez? McCain didn't roll his eyes, but widened them, as he came to fresh understanding of just how poor a judge of character Obama does continue to show himself. Ayers -a bomb throwing professor ,Wright -a mentor of racism, Odinga - church planner (demolition dept.),FARC labor leaders with AKs
MaccusGermanis 3 years ago
You've got it wrong. Not all syndicalists are FARC members as you've affirmed, yet many of them have been killed by paramilitary groups supported by the Colombian Army. As a Colombian, I am a supporter of the Free Trade Agreement, but I'm afraid Obama might be right in what he said.
In McCain's words, you should come down here and see it for yourself. And for the record, it's Raul Reyes, not Paul Reyes.
epalma 3 years ago
Raul Reyes, thanks. I understand that not all "labor leaders" are FARC, which is why I'd wished that McCain forced a name out of Obama. I'm not trying discount the violence that you face in your county. I am trying to discount the ridiculous implication, of this video, that McCain rolled his eyes about the deaths of labor leaders. He instead went bug-eyed over the facil understanding his opponent showed over matters of free trade.
MaccusGermanis 3 years ago
Isn't McCain supposed to be the serious one?
It's like he has no patience for the actual, you know, DETAILS, which might explain why he keeps parachuting in at the last minute on immigration, the GI Bill, the Bailout and tries to take credit for other people's work.

pacman,
And I can appreciate that and understand where you are coming from. I'm just fed up with "mccain is such a douche" type comments. Actually even though I don't support Obama I'd get tired of negative comments about him quickly as well. Personally I'm not a huge fan of either, and whoever wins will bring 4 years of some really bad stuff, with maybe a diamond or two thrown in.

jjfyke 3 years ago 2
I saw that, it's hard to tell if this was a "I didn't know that" moment or a "he just lied and I'll get him later for that" moment. There's a third take: Obama just revealed a deep dark secret the American People weren't supposed to hear. Cut and slice it any way you want it still works out to being a situation where McCain either doesn't KNOW the reality of what's going on in Columbia or he knows but is one of those "the ends justify the means" types who finds no problem with killing "leftists".
SpitfireOFatj 3 years ago
The country is Colombia. Columbia is a clothes brand, a Space Shuttle, a University, or a county in Wisconsin...But it is NOT the country.

Oh, thank you so much for the spell check as it obviously showed me up for having my coffee pot in a different room from my computer.

I don't need an eyeroll video to know that McCain is an asshole. But YouTube is still fun and essential. Lighten up, Pax. A man as unattractive physically as McCain is really needs to pay attention to how he comes across. His eye rolling, grimacing, flashing angry eyes did not help him in the least. He seems to be totally unaware, as Nixon was, that TV is a visual medium and he is not well suited to it.
