  • That might be the most impressive acoustic solo, ever.

  • this guy is a monster!! awesome!

  • John played the sickest shit at Eddie's Attic! If only people knew back then how good this dude is.

  • the solo is crazy

  • very jeff buckley at the end. him and john are my fav musicians.

  • Watch my videos for John Mayer covers!! :)

  • not sure if that's the most "insane" ending i'll ever hear, sure hope not. But great video anyway, thanks for posting

  • im not gay but a really wanna kiss john mayer CANT FIND ACOUSTIC TABS OF THIS SONG!!!!

  • @alejocool85

there´s a pretty cool lesson from marty schwartz here on youtube... maybe that helps you...it did for me

  • just get the basic chords down, the majority of it is rythmic feels.....jimi hendrix and stevie ray vaughn fills

  • @alejocool85

sorry dude but thats very much gay.

  • cheers for the amazing video

  • I find that song....every night :)

  • its weird the worst version of this song is the one on the album, ever other version is incredible

  • 4:23-4:43 guys got soul

  • This is just utterly inspirational.

  • holy shit. Normally when they say insane ending, I was expecting a crazy quick solo. But that was out of this world. It was calm but monumental. I could hear that ending all day and be in nirvana.

  • Well said

  • I have no words, none. Are you serious with that solo? SO SICK.

  • goosebumps

  • Seriously dude, At least three people have asked now, WHAT was cut at 3:05?

  • the person who taped it prolly had to edit it cuz they lost sight of him or sumthin

  • You know what the weird thing is...? His other clips have a cut at about 3 minutes in as well! I'm detecting a pattern...

Let's thank Vince here for posting these amazing clips, and having mastered the art of starting a new clip on his (phone?)cam, which probably doesn't allow for clips over 3 mins, pretty darn quick.

  • It got cut because back in 2006, most digital cameras couldn't record more than 3min of video at a time.

But in essence, I'm just glad it got recorded in some form so I can watch over and over... even 3 years on.

  • scratch that - 4 years on... where has the time gone??

  • @vince1731 lol still watching the same video huh/??? so am i.. fuckn love this version

  • @vince1731 NIce one guv!

  • that solo in the middle was sick!!! AMAZING!! john never ceases to amaze me

  • Why did it cut off at 3:05? What happened? lol.

  • i have a nice strat and a nice martin. Which one is more fun to solo on? the Martin plugged in hands down....

  • Such a beautiful note at the end, oh my god.

  • I'm stunned, this is amazing, i normally only like gravity when done electric but fuck...

  • What got cut at 3:05?

  • i dont think ive ever seen him play this song the same way twice.....awesome

  • BAM!!!!

  • This song never ever gets old.... ever!

  • YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW GOOD THIS IS!

  • indeed

  • I believe that you are wrong.

  • play that song like he does then say that you pretentious moron

  • amazing!

  • Why can't the audience afford him the simple courtesy of shutting the fuck up? Excellent performance. Sounds a little like Sam Cooke(You Send Me).

  • don't ever ever, as long as you live compare anything John mayer does to Sam Cooke, ever again.I really like both, but you cannot compare Mayer's vocals to Sam cooke's it just can't be done.

  • He's not anywhere near the same level obviously, but clearly he has listened to him and also Otis Redding. You're right, he is very different in sound. But in phrasing..? And this song emphasizes the sixth quite a bit---like You Send Me, or Lenny by Stevie Ray Vaughn. Sam Cooke was one in a million, don't mistake my point. This Mayer song isn't really much of a composition, but it is an excellent performance, and it owes a huge debt to the evolution in music of black phrasing.

  • Nicely put man =)

  • why?

truth with music lies in personal preference. so whats the big deal with referencing sam cooke when talking about mayers vocal style? do not over pay tribute to one man, its impossile to produce absolute argument in music.imho

  • one thing I love about Mayer's way of playing is that he can mend both the rythmic and the solo parts of a song...this song is a perfect illustration of that! 5 stars!

  • sensationally

  • I would like to be kept where the light is :)

  • i love Gravity... it's what kinda gets me... and Gravity wants to bring me down... ah, Johnny!

  • WOW....!!!!

  • He continues to surprise, elevate, and please!

  • man those people there are lucky!!! I've played there before and remember it being a very small room, probably could comfortably fit around 50 people, but with John there they probably squeezed in around 200 or so!

  • and i love him too

  • all the people talking pisses me the fuck off.

    john mayer, you are insane.

    i love you so much.

  • so where is the insane ending? i thought it was all fantastic, now insane

  • The solo in the middle is fantastic!

  • he's really one of the best guitarist around today.. it's not that he's the only one.. but he brings a smarter view of music to the public.. there are a lot of great young guitarist but not everyone reaches a wide audience.. we owe john..

  • thank you so much for posting. this is the my favorite version of gravity ever!

  • How is that the most insane ending in the world?

  • You got to keep me where the light is, i am not kidding around! Beautiful!

  • i think i'm in love. :]

  • I know I am!

  • it embodies the baroque idea of making much out of little.

He is the best guitar player we have around, not too much, just right.

And the vocals are awesome too

  • What's the deal with the cut at 3:05?

  • i REALLY want to play like that.

  • train hard. Took john about 17 years to sound like that.

  • yep instead of stopping that train , im gonna bust that train lol .

  • ONE really good thing about John Mayer is that his voice sounds the same in the recorded studio MP3 and when he sings it live.

Some other artists sound horrible singing their songs live.

  • that's true, i also noticed

  • thats the sad thing about music , alot of that shit is fake .

  • anyone think he sounds really like a young stevie ray vaughan in this song?

    Quality indeed

  • I have so many similarities in taste of music and in thought that some times I feel I know John Mayer or I am John Mayer. It's like I can predict his words and when he feels the music on stage I strangely feel it in the same way too. He is the reason I am learning about music.

  • You're a nutcase

  • I feel ya Cory. I feel ya. You wanna hear something that'll make you cry? Listen to Mayer, John Legend, Corinne Bailey Rae at the Grammys. That perfromance... Jesus... I swear, it's the sweetest nine minutes you can spend. Well... almost. If you know what I mean ;)

  • i am the exact same dude its creepy but nice

  • damn, you guys too? how many of us are there? we should get together, Sheetz, tuesday night, be there.

  • for sure.

  • @coreyman562 Get help

  • @coreyman562 same as i think dear!!... u'r right.. he's wonderfull... i listen him lot...

  • I saw John Mayer in 2002 at a small dive in Iowa City playing to a crowd of about 20 people. I actually started playing guitar after seeing him. Months later after that show, Mayer blew up big time...everyone knew who he was. And its funny now, even though my tastes in music have considerably expanded, I can still always go back to John Mayer and enjoy him as if it was the first time I saw him play at that hole in the wall bar. I love this youtube clip...

  • I dont think it realy matters where he is, the emition and detication is still there. love this mother fucker

  • I just cant get enough of the emotion that seems to always drive his music. You can just see that he really feels what he plays.

  • <3 i love this song

  • I'll keep you where the light is

  • soul

  • hes not kiddin around lol

  • hahaha

  • amazing ohh loved it

  • fucking sick

  • omg that ending was breathtaking. john mayer is really somethin.

  • Is there effects on the solo? Sounds like it's getting a slight OD or something. Or it could be the amazing sustain of his guitar. It sounds like a sax during the solo too.

  • Compressor

I'm Pretty sure that is "on" during the whole song.

  • the production and song writing on this album is amazing. to bad he came out with that teeny bopper lust nugget album first. this new album is much much more mature. grown folks music.

  • this song is kinda similar to stevie ray vaughans "life without you"

  • EVERY SONG - - is SIMILAR TO EVERY OTHER SONG.. agreed?.. agreed.

  • yeah, every song he makes is... really good.

  • my post is a general comment, not just regarding his songs. I mean most songs in general are similar to past songs. It's just the way it's always been.

  • haha the only person who agrees with you... is you. good to know.

  • my post is a general comment, not just regarding his songs. I mean most songs in general are similar to past songs. It's just the way it's always been.

  • im in love with him haha ive seen him 4 times this year and um dont diss his "technical skill" haha who gives a shit he plays phenomenally!!

  • it's true; in terms of raw technical skill i wouldn't put him as one of the best... however the combination of factors; his ability to play great and sing ever better, his amazing talent in writing original music all add towards him being a complete guitarist, thus making him one of the best.

simply being able to shred and play insane rifts does not make one a great guitarist in all standards...

  • Thank you so much for posting this. ABSOLUTELY FUCKING AWESOME!!!

  • definitely in the top 5

i've seen him live twice this year already, absolutely amazing.

  • Absolutely top 5 right now. I have played for 25 years - i know the difference.

  • but you cannot deny this talent. He is amazing in his own style.

  • Great tune

  • hes a good song-writer obviously, but as guitar goes, and he can def play, but hes only average compared to others. not even close to the best of our time, thats crazy talk.

  • u r fuckin retarded

  • and blue is the best colour of the year, everyone has their own opinions, let them think what they want. If John Mayer is the best guitarist they have ever heard, let them be. btw, watch him play a life concert, he's not a shredder because he has patience added with a great ear, he's a genious when it comes to jamming. Watch him play live at concerts. He's not just an average guitar player. Name the top 5 guitar players from the past 10 years, I dont see how he couldnt be on that list.

  • i agree

  • acoustic/blues musicians still performing in the past 10yrs: tommy emmanuel, phil keaggy, eric clapton, adrian legg, even billy gibbons from zz top is a phenomenal blues guitar player. i'm not saying these are the best of our time, but just saying that there are too many amazing guitarists. it's pretty easy for mayer to not be one of the top 5 guitar players.

  • 3:05

You cut out the solo and cut to the last verse. Why?

  • just... amazing...he has become one of the greatest influences in my musical life

  • i agree whole heartedly, john is the number one singer/songwriter/guitarist of our time and best since jimi with out a doubt

  • best song-writer/guitarist since Jimmy Hendrix????

  • Don't forget GOD himself. CLAPTON!!!!

  • you spelled his name wrong. its "Jimi Hendrix"

  • owned.

  • i'm speechless......

  • the ending...straight same cooke influence

  • I agree.

  • How can one person dig so deep, be so true, effect so many people without being perfect? He's one of life small miracles..

  • He's not kiddin' around...

  • Awesome. ^^

  • Wow.

  • I saw him in concert yesterday...it was absolutely unbelievable!!!

  • omg that WAS truly amazing. my goddddddddddd <3 thanks

  • damn glad that head is in the way...I hope that dude is living a happy life b/c his head just ruined mine, haha

  • simply perfect

  • FANTASTIC. Thank you SO much.

  • YES! It's about time these eddie shows are getting around. I'm pissed that he's requested them to be with held for so long.

  • John does his Martin Sexton impression

  • very cool!

  • Oh....my....gosh....that's *the* best John Mayer acoustic performance EVER. Period.
