LoL, you were playing turbo with the wrong people then. Those old school Turbo masters studied harder than we do now. It's just easier these days because of the internet. Back then you had to spend hundreds of dollars at the arcade to pick this stuff up.
people who say this were just really bad at super turbo.
also, super turbo invented cancels and super cancels. in some ways, super turbo is a lot more technical, obscure game than sf4. super turbo has a lot more nasty, unescapable traps where you really need to understand whats happening on a frame by frame level to even get understand how to escape.
only reason people think super turbo was easier because the internet wasn't around to show people just how much they sucked....
thanks mate! one more thing.. am i the only person who finds comboing more difficult depending on the direction im facing? i find it easier to combo when facing right.. am i a retard??
Nope, I know I do shoryuken type movements easier when I face right, but I do hadokens (or sonic booms since I play Seth) easier when I face left. It's just your own playing style.
FredMchale - thanks for the vid. i consider myself a good gamer.. not expert but good.. and im having a lot of trouble executing focus dash cancels into ultras eg. sagat uppercut, dash cancel, ultra juggle.. how long did it take u to master this technique? plus, have bin using an xbox controller.. does that make this particular technique a lot harder? tx
haha, the Xbox controller makes everything harder. The best tip I can offer is to practice the dash cancel without the Ultra. Just keep doing uppercut>dash cancel over and over. Eventually, your fingers will relax and get comfortable, which will allow you to tack the Ultra on to the end. So just get used to hitting those two buttons and getting that double tap out.
The XBOX controller, past and present was never made for fighting games, haha. The Dualshock is leaps and bounds better interms of fighting games. I suggest you invest your money in another gamepad or get a fight stick. I use the Soul Calibur IV fight stick, I got two of them for 70 bucks, whereas most fight sticks now cost over 70 for just one. You can find a new Soul Calibur IV fight stick cheap on amazon. If you can find a Street Fighter IV stick for cheap, GET IT!!!!
No problem at all. Glad it's helping people. Sometimes gamers get a little snobbish when they get good, and forget when things were new to them. The more good SF4 players there are, the better!
Actually, no. I don't think anyone can "cancel" into an Ultra, but several characters can "combo" into it. The only way to cancel into an Ultra is to use the Focus Attack Dash Cancel, but there is no natural cancel into an Ultra to my knowledge. Most Ultra combos occur off of a juggle.
Technically, Shoryukens aren't armor breaking, unless its used as a reversal or multi-hitting shoryuken (Ken and Gouki's non LP Shoryuken, Ryu's EX Shoryuken, Sakura's multi-hitting shoryuken, etc).
And you just said it! j/k This isn't a strategy tutorial. I'm showing people the "how", rather than the "why". At the time of this recording, I wasn't comfortable enough with the game to give strat advice. Now is a different story though...
how come at 2:02 when you did shoryuken he didnt go into the air cuz ive seen people knock other poeple into the air and do focus cancel after, and some times pull off an ultra after that
Big Protip: When you use the lp shoryuken, you don't have to cancel to get off the Ultra. If they are in the air, you hit them with the LP shoryuken and you land with enough time to get the ultra off. Even if you guys trade hits, you can get the Ultra off in time. Go into training mode, set the other character to "jump" and check it out.
Glad it's helping, guys. Re: megamanxtc One of the keys to learning these techniques is creatiing the opportunity for them consistently. When people "hope" or "fish" for situations, they invite punishment. Nothing better than seeing someone spam big combos, only to open themsel
Nice video. Helped with my EX Focuses. I wasn't holding down the buttons like you explained. This caused me to dash cancel, but end up performing the Focus Attack right after the dash cancel. Now i can cancel properly.
IMO, some people abuse Super Cancel. I couldn't perform Super Cancel but I could win versus people who did it consistently. I attribute this to abusing it.
I guess this is just a way of saying, "Now that you can do it, learn to use it effectively and properly."
I think i got it for Blanka's EX cancel into Focus attack. Back, Forward EX Roll, then while this is going on, Med P+Med K, Forward, Forward? Will this do it?
Honestly, I'm not sure. I don't play Blanka, so I don't know which of his moves are Focus Cancel-able. Most Blankas I play just spam the roll, down+Fierce slide and Electricity, LOL
Being able to do that stuff with my RIGHT hand (dashing and all the stuff you have to do with the d-pad/analogstick) would make things much easier for me. Im totally new to that (played sf2 on snes a bit..) but i wish i could play on my normal keyboard *g*
Some people switch hands on a joystick. We call it the "crossover" style, because the right hand is crossed over to the left side and they play in reverse. Saw a lot of guys playing like that in New York on SF3:Third Strike.
It'd definitely be easier on a stick, or the Madcatz pad. Because you have to hit two buttons very quickly at the same time, plus dash, the PS3 controller just isn't made for all of that. The buttons on the Madcatz are very sensitive, which makes it easier, but overall Focus Attack Dash Canceling(FADC) is easier on a stick.
so the basic idea is....just press FA + dash to cancel moves? or just dash to cancel moves... so if i want to cancel my shoryuken i gonna press MK, MP and dash real quick? i m confused =S...sorry new to this game...
You're right on all accounts. You can cancel the move with just the FA. If you don't dash, you'll do the FA. If you DO dash, you'll be free to execute a more powerful move, or escape a counter attack. So it's three steps: special-focus attack-dash cancel. The FA cancels the SRK and the dash cancels the FA
It's m.punch+m.kick at the same time. Before learning the whole combo, you gotta get comfy with just the cancel. After you get comfy with the cancel, you gotta get the dash after the cancel. Once that is easy, you can throw in a super or Ultra afterwards.
Thank you

Real quick, you talk about canceling Guile's Flash kick, correct? I assume it is the same principles as Blanka, since he is a charge character.

With Guile, you have to cancel the kick the VERY second it hits the opponent.

It's m.punch+m.kick at the same time. Before learning the whole combo, you gotta get comfy with just the cancel. After you get comfy with the cancel, you gotta get the dash after the cancel. Once that is easy, you can throw in a super or Ultra afterwards.
