KRISTIE MCNICHOL AND THE CARPRENTERS!! IS THAT HER REAL BROTHER?? THANKS FOR POSTING!!!!! My brother was at a mall in LA and had a kid on his shoulders..this woman was behind him playfully hittin on his leg..IT WAS KRISTIE!! She was flirting with a total stranger(my brother)..this was mid 90s.
I miss Karen Carpenter...its just not fair...she was supposed to be the queen of the 80s 90s and a legend today. She is still a legend but the world has forgotten her..:(...i havent.
@chthonic19 What a racist and ignorant thing to say, using the R word like that is no different than using the N word or the F word, proof that the internet is nothing but a medium to spread ignorance and bigotry.
@jojo34209 It certainly doesn't follow that I'm "racist," as you say, but I will admit that I used outdated language in describing Ms. Engels. I should have said it's cool that the Carpenters had a lady with a pronounced congnitive / developmental disorder on their show.
@chthonic19 There is no record of her having any disorders, not only are you an unapologetic racist nincompoop but also a gossiping ignorant imbecile.
karen's voice seems particularly warm and sweet and smooth in her christmas music. it's as though there's a glow around it. i know that may sound strange talking about an intangible thing, but that's the best way i can describe it.
Thank you Miss Carpenter. Your an angel now. What a tragic end to such a beautiful lady of song. Pardon me for saying this but, what an appaling waste of such a God given talent.
I wish this video was better quality! it is great! this is from a time, when TV was good! I wish Karen was still around, she could have made another great show! If people don't like this show, or the Carpenters, they have VERY BAD TASTE! and I feel sorry for them, Karen and Richard are timeless! their music and talent is eternal!
She passed away before I was born, It was a shock for my mother in 83 as it was for me when I read about it. and still hurts, really. But we can feel her energy through music, which is a comfort...
Cheesy or no...THIS just made Christmas back then...there were specials galore! Really made the season bright with always something to look forward to!
@jupitermoon10011 Because I have the feeling that Karen liked to have people on her show that she liked. Not because they were particularly talented. I mean Kristy McNichol was certainly not a vocal find LMAO!
I wish there was a dvd that featured every show the Carpenters made or went on, and not to forget the documentaries about their lives! i would definitely buy that! ;)
@leddhed I totally Concur! I find sad when people have no idea who The Carpenters are... but then happily educate them on what they're missing out on!
No one knew back then in 1978 that she had anorexia. It was not a well known eating disorder...and Karen, as many anorectics are know to do, were very great cooks! Cooking for others....
Thanks for sharing. Karen's voice is just astounding to me, nothing like it. I am a huge fan and love to see these types of clips. This album is also a must have for anyone liking Christmas music; "A Christmas Portrait" is a classic!!!
What really gets me with this show though - is all the referances to food with Karen - it's a bit toe curling really - especially, obviously as she had anorexia. Did anyone else notice that?
The door bell that rings at 3 minutes in to the first part. I think that is the same one that Karen had installed in her condo. We've Only Just Begun...
@OutsidersLover12 Nothing cheesy about this, everything is so low-class and crass nowadays that you are confusing cheesy with elegant, classy and refined.
@jojo34209 Absolutely correct! Georgia Engel was a good choice for this show. She may have acted dingy, but she had more class in her soul than most of what is foisted upon us nowadays. At least, back then, we didn't call people who's sole purpose in life is to fight with their "castmates" on stupid reality tv shows "talented"; We referred to them as "mentally ill". Georgia actually had comedic talent, and was on the most classic comedy show of all time.

@Yepprd Your story is downright bizarre and probably apocryphal, since Kristie McNichol is a straight-up lesbian.
