Andy Dufresne, who crawled through a river of shit and came out clean on the other side. headed for the Pacific. Sometimes it makes me sad, though, Andy being gone. I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright and when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice, but still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone. I guess I just miss my friend. (I miss mine too)

SK's work doesn't always transfer to the screen very well, especially his horror stories and novels. The only two that stand out are "Delores Claiborne" and "The Shawshank Redemption". And this one is far and away the best. How the Academy didn't give this the Best Picture award (and other Bests) is beyond my comprehension.

@hassannn75 much like bladerunner, it wasn't fully appreciated upon initial release, I think it was overshadowed by Forest Gump released the same year. However, in the list of top 100 films recently, it did score higher than Forest Gump. I guess this film is a bit like wine, it's regarded better with age.

@jenguind Damn right mate, most of Ridley Scott movies are under-appreciated, I love Scott, one of my favourite directors, Forest Gump is a good movie, but highly overrated, BTW check IMDB's all-time top 250 films, on imdb.com & you'll see the ranking of Shawshank Redeption there & I'm pretty sure that most of good movies are appreciated on that site :)
