  • my .308 is also a savage model 10. with the 24in bull barrel. alot of people nock on it, but with hand loading i can keep up with the guys at the range shooting r700s that cost 4 times more! i shoot f class compititions when i got time, most other times i hunt with mine for whitetails.

  • I cant get 2600fps with a 180gr with a compressed max load of varget with .308. using cci primers or federal 210 primers. 2550fps is the max out of a 24in barrel with the 180gr handloaded individually weighed before loading.

  • @longsnipz I use Reloder 17 for the 208's, get a lot of boost from that powder, i've since then backed down to 2450, a lot friendlier when the temperature gets hot. I can only shoot 2600fps in the winter, when it warms up I blow primer pockets. Weighing bullets is a waste of time if you aren't shooting super high end benchrest.

  • @KCDustRemover looks like im using the wrong powder, but than again im not looking to blow up my rifle or brass. you should be carefull, good to know you stepped the loads down a bit. you probibly get better groups by stepping them down. good shooting with all the wind! if you have time try hornady sst 180gr with the powder you use and let me know your fps you get... it has a good bc and its a bit more streamlined than the amax.

  • If that had been a human size target you would have hit it a couple of times.

  • I'm impressed. Good Luck u guys!

  • Nice shooting! I have a question though? How are you getting 2600fps w/208gr bullets? Hand loads? Please, dont mistake me for doubting you,.... i believe you, just wondering how. Also, i have a Mosin nagant w/20.5" barrel, shoots the 7.62x54, was wondering the best bullets/grain to use for 1000yd shots? Any help would be appreciated! : )

  • @m1shadow I handload, the 208's are loaded long and quite hot, I don't shoot 'em so hot anymore, i've backed down to 2500 to improve case life, plus when it warms up they get too hot. As for the Mosin, find a load that the rifle shoots well, and work you're way out. 175gr or heavier is where you're going to want to go though.

  • @KCDustRemover Ok, thanks alot for the info! So i am taking it that the heavier bullets are better for long distance than lighter bullets? Also, i am debating back and forth between a .308 and .300 win mag as my next rifle. Obviously, the .300 mag is more powerful, but aside from .308 rounds being cheaper, would you feel they are just as accurate at 1000yds?

  • @m1shadow Heavier usually translates to better in the wind, which translates to a larger margin of error in your wind calls at long range. When it comes to shooting 1,000 yards, it's not a question of how accurate the rifle is, it's how accurate YOU are. Shooting 1" at 100 yards doesn't equate to 10" at 1000. As for .300mag or .308, it's up to you, but if you don't have a place to shoot 1,000 yards, it doesn't really matter what you get.

  • @KCDustRemover I guess m1 shadow hasnt ever read a load book, especially the old ones, have you noticed how each year the newer books have reduced max loads? I fyou look at load data fromt he 1960's its 25% hotter than todays max loads.

  • @ghettobraden It seems like just about every book out there has the loads all lawyered up. I can see them applying to a factory barrel, however when you are shooting a match grade lapped barrel, you can do a lot of trickery in handloaded to make them do amazing things. I need to get back out and shoot 1200 again with the video camera this time.

  • Nice shooting. Those 208gr A-Max seem nice. Do they have to be seated out further like the other A-Max bullets?

  • @ammosmith I've only shot them that way so far. I'm going to be doing some experimenting with magazine length amax's here over the coming weeks. I mostly want to find out if the Alpha mags will work fine with my new CDI bottom metal so I can still load 'em a bit long.

  • it thought i heard only a 2 sec sound delay, are you sure thats not 6-7oo yards?

  • @jaredleospirit You actually can't hear the steel ringing on my camera from that range, I can't even hear it with my amplified muffs from that range. The real giveaway of the range is the time of flight, I used JBM to calculate the time of flight to 1000 yards, it's about 1.6 seconds. I have another video shooting a milk jug at 700 yards shot the same day, and you can see the target size difference. Yes, there was a zoom difference, but clarity should confirm the range.

  • @jaredleospirit Check your math buddy, a 2 second delay would be more than 1k yards, with a bullet traveling 2600 fps.

  • @Wilson1592 your a retard 2600 fps is the muzzle velocity the round bleeds off incredibly quickly once it reaches the air and encounters wind resistance and moisture in the air which you can see as the "mirage"

  • @CptSmokeAlot Forgot about that. No need to be mean, but since you were: It's spelled "you're" retard. :)

  • @Wilson1592 i was only being mean because you were being a douchebag. and I dont give a shit if I spell anything right on here, this is the fuckin internet you technical douche bag. I bet your one of those missionary position only type of guys where his wife says its okay you tried. If not now you will be.

  • @CptSmokeAlot Only a pussy that has heard that ,would tell another those words .Really makes me smile when little dicks like you brag...CptSmokeAlot the only thing youv`e smoked a lot is cock.

  • @rambo440hp1 Why are you talking to me? Rambo I'm gonna go ahead and say you act super macho because on the inside you like to see men with their shirts off.

  • good!

  • Mirage looks like a 1/4 value right to left to me. Ideas?

  • @Lonewlf7676 I don't remember what the wind call was anymore, it's been a while. Wind out there usually is right to left. I have had the occasional left to right. It's hard to call the wind out there because there are not any indicators between the shooter and target. Mirage will tell you what's going on when you can see it.

  • Good SHootin'

  • Love your videos! I like how your doing 1000 yard shots with 18-20 inch barrels! From everything i am reading, a bullet traveling between 2500-3000fps only loses about 20fps per 1" cut off a barrel; not a big deal. Eventually when i am good enough, i want to do a video of 1000 yd shots with my M44 mosin nagant, which has a 20" barrel. Do you have one,, if so, please do a 1000yd vid with it!

  • Nice shooting mate. Its Quick from SC. Good work, any plans to go further???

  • @Quick191 Of course, however there are high voltage lines that run across the range 400y from the target, i have to be very careful of the elevation of the bullet at that point as I go back. The max I can get is 1200y, i'm in the clear with 208's, but 175smk's would be sending rounds dangerously close to the wires.
