I remember watching this episode in the 70's and laughing my ass off. I started clubbing when I was 15 in 1978 and I never saw anybody dancing with towels until I saw this.
Mike Nichols has to be a ga-zillionaire, he had his nose in this show too! Man he's rich! I read this show was syndicated out all over Europe for years after it went off in USA. That's huge money.
Wow...loved the Paul Pape (CLYDE), part...the in-joke was sensational (he´s played Travolta´s best buddy in SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, about a year prior to this episode and on this, hé asks Kristy how was the experience workin with John)...
One thing I hated about television prior to Miami Vice in 1984 was when they would use generic sounding studio music rather than the original records that were popular at the time. The studios were not willing to pay royalties for original records, so they would have these "in house" crappy music productions.
Of course, one can say that anything resembling "disco" may be crappy itself. I just wish they played the original hits of the time like Miami Vice did.
Pricilla Lopez is the dancing queen here. Remember her in "A Chorus Line". Um...Towel dancing??...not the coolest look, n'est pas? Creepy guy reminds me of the "Johnny Venture" character from "Rhoda" TV series in the 70's with Valerie Harper.
@lucan18 That creepy dance guy is Jeff Kutash, and in the late 70s he and his dancers were regulars on the Midnight Special. He also had a syndicated dance show called "Hot City" or something like that. He did that stupid towel dance on both shows.
The scene with that older guy is SO creepy in retrospect. I'm wondering who the trumpet soloist (and tenor player) on the soundtrack at the end. There were many great jazz players hiding away in the studio scene then.
this is so funny i shit my pants laughing.

Still, I loved "Family"

"...anything resembling "disco" may be crappy itself."
Could not disagree more.
By the way, KEEP ON JUMPIN´ was not some GENERIC-SOUNDING studio music , but a real chart-topper from the 70s.
Regarding your comment on HATING THE GENERIC-SOUNDINF MUSIC most tv shows used to avoid paying royalties, I also found that very annoying.
diuga1 3 years ago
The song heard IN THIS VIDEO is a generic house band recording and NOT the original record heard on the radio and in the clubs by the group Mystique'
My comment was not meant to be annoying...but I was honest

@saturnday By the time Miami Vice came out most original music was crappy so it made no difference!

Lopez is gorgeous.
I wonder if that was that her real accent (I gather she´s from the Bronx), or was she FORCING IT ...

Five years later they were taking sledge hammers to japanese cars, voting for Ronald Reagan and listening to John Cougar.
