I love this movie. Even amongst other Wenders films, "Wings of Desire" is alone. It's one of the greatest of all films. There is no similar experience, and yet "Wings of Desire" is accessible to anyone willing to forget Hollywood cinema for a couple hours.
Hollywood is a money making machine... there so many talented story tellers out in the rest of the world. So many potentially great films to be made but all the unimaginative Hollywood producers can fry up are remakes or films that end in 1,2,3,4
i wouldn't mind watching this one it looks very interesting, though i just finished watching city of angels and it just made me cry like a damm baby lol
this gem lost a lot of its pathos after the wall fell and germany was reunited. still its a wonderful time capsule of an era. everything about it from the acting to the cinematography is stellar.
@mrpolaroid123 yes - Peter Falk, He is all over this, and brilliant in it. Likewise Nick Cave. In the sequel, Far Away So Close, you get Falk again, Lou Reed, Nastassja Kinski, and a cameo from Mikhail Gorbachev, no kidding!
@Clearie552 yes it is. Wenders had some involvement with CoA too. CoA is very Hollywoodized compared with WoD but it has some moments that are very faithful to it too. If you enjoyed CoA you really ought to see WoD as you will find the comparisons fascinating.
this (Wings of Desire) was made in 1987. City of Angels was made in 1998. City of Angels is just Hollywood's shitty way of making money of Wim Wenders masterpiece "Wings of Desire"
@ijustcomment4 The City of Angels trailer gave me douche chills. Just watching the trailer makes me think they missed the point of Wings of Desire entirely and aimed just for the romance portion of the film which is kinda a subplot in the film.

That angel looks like Adolf Hitler.

@r0sebud100
That's probably because the main actor in this film is Bruno Ganz who also played Adolf Hitler in the film Downfall.
